Had to take away from the title, because it wouldv'e contained spoilers. Anyways, why do you think they included all of the FR/LG and R/S/E starters and legendaries?

My theory:

With the introduction of the DSi, some people wont be able to utilize the Pal Park located in the former Safari Zone in Kanto, so Nintendo decided to include all of the major, one-[GBA]-game exclusives, such as Rayquaza, Kyogre, Groudon, Latias, Latios, and the Hoenn and Kanto starters to allow those with DSi's the ability to further complete their PokeDex with only DS series games.

I think it's simpler than that, I think its because they want to simply make those pokemon available to a new generation of players who started playing with the 4th generation and simply never owned the GBA games.

Actually I think its the combination of the first 2 posts, though the very first would not surprise me in the least.

I agree with this, and also i think they know that some of the GSC fans that left the series after the originals may come back to the series now and it will do the same for them.

Like everyone's been saying, it's about giving a chance for both new fans and people that only have a DSi to get all of the exclusive Pokemon from the franchise in a single generation.

Between D/P/Pt/HG/SS not only are all of the starters from all of the games available, but also all of the legendary Pokemon (aside from Mew and Celebi, but they might show up in HG/SS events).

I agree with deku. That seems like a logical reason, but I was also thinking that because 3rd generation legendaries are in the game, that's a reason for gen III starters. As for the Kanto starters...well, there is a Kanto region in the game.

The Kanto starters always seemed to be logical to me as in Emerald, Johto starters were given as a gift after completing the Hoenn PokéDex. So as Smearlge stated, having Kanto situated in the game itself makes the most sense to have one of the starters of that region available to the players.

As for the Hoenn starters however, my guess it would be a combination of what everyone has stated so far. For the third generation legendaries included, for the DSi owners who won't be able to take use of the Pal Park placed in the game, and for the old and new comers of Pokémon since the second generation.

Although, my other reason for the inclusion of these three Hoenn Pokémon is so it can also attract the players to purchase the game even more as well. Many gamers look for a game that has more inside to give and with so many inclusions to this one remake, having the Hoenn and Kanto starters availalble is just another way to top off the popularity of the game. Nevertheless, the addition of all these starters are optional, so those who fear it to be a terrible idea can still share the option of not taking one or simply leaving it within their PC Boxes.

That's not a theory. That's a damn fact. Nintendo makes remakes so people won't yell they can't "catch 'em all". The nostalgia and etc are just bonuses which helped and will help again selling it.
