I think they're great fun actually. I'm frankly a bit sick of training and such forth.
I've play it every morning before school, so I don't have to worry about turning it off halfway through. The events that aren't self-explanatory can be easily enough worked out. I've finally got the hang of my favourite events (hurdles and running laps).
Certainly a break just to vegetate and enjoy looking at the new graphics and your Pokémon. Much more fun than contests, but needs a pause button because people aren't to appreciative of "sixty-four seconds left... shh!"
