... Or in the Eastern parts, at least ;__; I wish I got to experience the pretty red :(

Sydney has been blanketed with high levels of thick dust, affecting visibility, brought on by gale force winds.

Major roads have been shut due to the high levels of dust, including the Sydney Harbour Tunnel and the M5 East Motorway from Beverly Hills to Kyeemagh.

Ferries have been suspended due to visibility and flights have been diverted from Sydney Airport.
Police traffic co-ordinator, Senior Sergeant John Kane, said drivers need to be aware of the risks of driving through heavy dust.

"Drivers are continuing to drive at speeds which are high-risk in these conditions," he said.

"The dust has significantly reduced visibility on all roads and I am concerned that drivers are continuing to travel at speeds potentially dangerous in these conditions.

"All drivers should slow down until conditions improve."

Northwesterly winds from the western side of New South Wales have carried the dust to the city, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

The dust is expected to dissipate later in the day.

Cars in the city are driving with their lights on this morning due to poor visibility.

Prolonged exposure to dust can result in asthma attacks, allergic reactions and other breathing-related problems, according to the NSW Department of Health.

People with respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchitis and emphysema are urged to exercise caution.

Reports of raised dust are also coming in from Canberra, Newcastle and Tibooburra.

I had the fun to wake up in the morning and glance out my window, to see a deep-red, foggy sky. A few minutes later my sister woke up as well - she was rather surprised by it. XD

Certainly was unusual, and it hung around for ages - only really cleared up by the end of school (although it did slowly get less red - more orange and then yellow, really, as the day went on) and now there's dust on the ground, cars, etc everywhere. Was kinda eerie going to school as well - early in the morning, with the red air making all of the lights look ghost-like.

Apparently this dust had spread over 500km all the way to Dubbo...

Was amused how during the weather they were stating how this didn't have direct links to global warming - bet they got several calls from people thinking that. XD

Dust storms seem kinda normal for Canberra really. We get them a few times, especially when it's summer. But now it's just been raining like normal ever since the dust storm. :( Though I was wondering why the other day it was pretty cloudy and dusty outside, I forgot the dust storm was the night before. Baww and my car. XD It was filthy. I'm sure the car wash would have made a lot of money that day.

I saw it on the news and my mom was "Wow, go ask your Australian friends" XD

The images were amazing, but I loved how many people had to go to the hospital due to "Breathing problems" after jogging for a while with all that dust XD

I woke up and rolled over to look out the window, no doubt I was surprised to see the sky was orange.
All the dust and wind made my cats go crazy, I spent nearly a whole hour trying to get them all inside. xP

Dust storms are cool, provided you're not actually in one. I had a friend who had the "pleasure" of experiencing one once. In his words, it was "not something I particularly enjoyed."

Here's an interesting video of the dust storms... it was rarely this bad about Australia, which is just as well.

Cringe at 'it's like dark-time'. -_-

There was no dust all the way here in Melbourne. Just a few earthquakes here and there. BUT NO DUSTSTORMS. ;;
I am happy about this. I went to the Melbourne Show on Tuesday, imagine if we'd gotten dust storms then? :P And I don't ever feel the earth tremors, so NO BADNESS FOR ME! :D

Yeah I heard of those dust storms. They could be felt all the way in America in those Outback restaurants :P

But goes to show the weather is unpredictable. For example, it's either cold or rainy every time I go to church. Irony is wonderful, weather is wonderful.

Why is breathing problems in talking marks? I missed the point of that sorry.

On that note anyway, they shouldn't even be running in weather like that. You're bound to find it hard to breathe.

I was rather disappointed that I didn't get to see this first hand, it looked rather pretty despite posing a health risk. Where I live it was a mere haze on the Tuesday, then the weather has greeted us with normal rain and storms ever since. XD

One of my friends who lives a bit up north had rain along with the dust storm, he said it was practically raining mud. He had to walk to school that day and he doesn't own an umbrella. Good example of getting owned. :S

Sounds like Swampert struck his town. >D
