Last week, 2 days before my flight to Russia, my Philosophy teacher discussed about the philosophy of death. He came across the infamous words "Gloomy Sunday". He says it caused the unconditional suicidal acts of people around the world. The song itself started from Ukraine, then it spread due to people's curiosity(which results the death of some, lol). What makes the song so inticing to kill yourself, if that's true. Never heard the song and I don't intend to listen to it.

It is said that you can hear a subliminal message deep in this song that obviously causes the actions taken (suicide)
The message is something along the lines of

You are all alone in this world, go on set yourself free

EDIT:

The melancholy song written by Mr. Seres, with words by his friend, Ladislas Javor, a poet, declares at its climax, "My heart and I have decided to end it all." It was blamed for a sharp increase in suicides, and Hungarian officials finally prohibited it.

Everything they say about it is totally legit.

I listened to it in the dark, alone, outside my house on my porch. Nobody was home inside.

I played the song over my headphones, which were the crescent type that you lock around your ears.
IT started, and I felt nothing. but I sat down, and my mind took over from there.
about thirty seconds into I felt tears rolling down my face, but I didn't feel where they were coming from. Like I didn't know I was crying.
I felt my head swing forward, and all of a sudden I was in my kitchen clutching a knife, luckily I snapped out of it before I could hurt myself further, but even then, I felt the subconscious desire to slice my wrists open and let God take me. It was one of the scariest nights of my life. My psychologists call me crazy, but I know, I know the hidden message in that song...just not everyone can hear it...

DONT EVER LISTEN TO THE ORIGINAL VERSION

Wow, I hadn't heard of this until now. o_o; I'm curious to listen to it myself, but I wouldn't want to unless I was in a padded room or something. XD;

This kinda creeps me out o.O'
What kind of song is it? Folk? Metal? Rock? R&B? or just some creepy guy whispering things in your ear while you hear a waterfall and that sorta things ;p
It's a fusion between Hip-Hop and Metal, basically a guy rapping and screaming at the same time. Awful enough to make anyone want to commit suicide.

I listened to it once, just to see if it was true about wanting to kill yourself after listening to it. It just sounded weird to me, but I couldn't really hear it well enough to get what it was saying. Anyway, I didn't kill myself, nor did I get the urge. =3
Maybe I'll listen to it properly one of these days. I have faith in myself not to lose control and kill myself. =3

I like discussing subliminal messages. Sure, it's all a bunch of nonsense, but it's interesting. There's absolutely no evidence to support the claim that subliminal messages hidden in audio cause anything. Visual ones are slightly more effective, in that they can sometimes put an idea in someone's head (flash a single frame of oranges in a movie and some of the audience may suddenly think about oranges without knowing why), but they're not going to make anyone do anything that they weren't already going to do.

There may be people who commit suicide after listening to the song, but that would probably stem from a combination of a pre-existing suicidal urge and ideas about the song. What I call the "hypnosis effect" (I call it this because it's the main reason why hypnosis works) might also come into play, where someone plays along to get attention from others, though usually this only happens up to the point of having something you definitely wouldn't do be suggested.

This has me really curious and may want to check into it, keeping in mind a very strong spirit and reminding myself what I have to live for if this song is that deep, but on the other hand I just may never come close to even wanting to listen to this song at all.

I just posted the message already. It's there for everyone to see.

I find it funny that people actually believe this stuff. I've listened to the original now about 10 times over the past 24 hours and I felt nothing : )

Have people ever considered people killed themselves because they were already depressed and thought about suicide a lot? Logic 1 Urban Legends 0
Exactly, I am sure a lot if not many of them who listened to the song were already on the verge of doing so. I don't think someone who was happy who listened to this song would all the sudden want to kill themselves.
