Tuesday, Nintendo made an update for ALL countries which was made to delete and block homebrew off your Wii (example: the Homebrew Channel). However, the update did back fire badly. There now has been mulitiple reports that people's Wiis after the update won't start up or read discs at all (aka: a Bricked Wii) EVEN IF THEIR WII HAS NEVER BEEN MODDED.

SO IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR WII SAFE, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU TO NOT UPDATE YOUR Wii TO VERSION 4.2. THIS IMPLIES TO ALL COUNTRIES AND TO ALL WII OWNERS!

Yeah but.... most have been updated just fine. It's a concern, but I wouldn't overreact. If you get bricked, and you're un-modded, call Nintendo up.

Exactly :D

Complain enough and get some nice free stuff while you're at it as well.

You can even call them up if you have a modded Wii. I did back when Brawl was released, and they still cleaned/replaced the lens for me. I also did it when my motherboard fried (of course, if the Wii won't boot, how can they tell? Heh).

Anyway, as Triforce said, it is a concern, but a good chunk, if not the majority, of Wiis have been successfully updated.

As for me, I still have 4.0, and it's going to stay that way unless they have something amazing for the next update or a game requires it.

About as many have bricked from the update as were bricked out of the box. The updated boot2 is equally as buggy as the first, it's just different so that it was replaced for everyone (modders and non-modders alike). OFC, you can just reinstall the modded version back over it again, so Nintendo just screwed a good number of people over for no reason.

Does this really happen to your wii because if it is then im not updating it at all. I havent gone on my wii because I never really use it anymore. Nintendo picked a great time to screw up peoples wii consoles.

Do not download the Up-date!...

Or else you will die!
... ... ...

I have little to say about this, other then the fact that it's a good thing that I'm too lazy to update the console myself. Lets hope they make a Version 4.2...Version 0.2.

It can happen. Updating won't always brick your Wii. I updated to this version without a problem. If you don't want to update, then don't. There's no harm in not updating, especially since most of the recent updates have just been to remove homebrew (that I've noticed anyway, I could be wrong).

Maybe you shouldn't do illegal stuff any more, kthnxbai
Maybe that's not the sole reason for the update? I don't know...

But yeah, my friend updated his modded Wii with no problem (except for the Homebrew Channel being deleted).

Wii version 4.2 ADVANCED INFORMATION-

The Wii version 4.2 includes use of ISO70
It cleans all ISOs we use for homebrew, deleting bootmii, DVDx, HBC, WADs and nearly everything else we use.
It deletes everything else we use.
It has a high chance of bricking, even with a safer update to 4.2 using our methods.

Yes, they have been spying on us.

No, it doesn't have a high chance of bricking. You're about as likely to get a bricked Wii out of the box.

Hmm last time i used it i made an update but not sure if it was this one though it did mention something about getting rid of homebrew stuff. I never understood the whole home brew thing so i never bothered with it. But i guess all updates aren't free of glitches and errors. Its all because of bad coding or a faulty system.

My friend was an idiot and gave me 40$ to get him his 4.1U the HBC. Then he got to 4.2U and it's a... paperweight! Literally, it's bricked.

There is no point to updating 4.2 anyway. The only reason to update is to wipe out unauthorised code. I'm keeping my Wii on 4,1 thanks.

I updated just fine no problems, besides, Nintendo has excellent customer service, I can't imagine they would make you pay for a problem caused by them, and they get your product back fairly quickly. They actually put my Wii back under warranty when then fan stopped working and started over heating.

Rare doesn't mean it never happens. It just means it's rare. And the bricking is far more rare than people think, just like swine flu is a bunch of overblown nonsense (a flu with a slightly higher fever? oh no! and yes, I had it) and every other thing people go nuts about because it hit some media outlet.

It does have a higher chance of bricking. If you visit one of the main Wii scene forums on the internet, you'll see many of us laughing at how many people are complaining about the reports of people who have unmodded but bricked Wiis.

May I turn your attention to this?

So... I now have 2 problems... that and Beatles.

Anyway, if my Wii does NOT get bricked... then I can restore the data with a Bannerbomb... or we can just hack the firmware to make it think we're on 4.2 and not have many ISOs (or any important ones, that is) changed.

Now I want to do something to Reggie that Aegis did to Bill Gates. Okay, no... I'm laughing at their misfortune.

The numbers are about the same as the number of out of box Wii bricks, like I've already said. You just hear about those less because (surprise) people return them when they're pre-bricked. When you have to wait for repairs, you're usually a bit noisier about it.
