I'm looking at getting a new laptop, and preferably something I can play games on, but I'm not sure whether the cards such as the ATI Mobility Radeon and nVidia GForce found in laptops would do the job? I was probably going to go with one of the newer 512MB nVidia Geforces. Would that work with newer games?

No. I'm not just getting a desktop.

GeForce and Radeon are both broad terms - there are high end, low-end, and middle-of-the-road graphics cards in each. I have a GeForce GTX 260M in my laptop and I'm able to play Crysis on all high settings at native 1680x1050 res, but there are laptops that can do better, and a lot that can do worse. So we'd need to know the specific card to tell you how well it would perform and steer you in the right direction.

I don't see why you don't get a netbook and a high performance desktop; it'll cost you less than a high performance laptop these days...

Anyway, with respect to the Nvidia cards, anything GTX250 or higher should be fine. The other stuff is OEM-only, so I'm not really familiar with it (and thus can't offer a good opinion). The 9 series is still pretty good, too; get something 9500 or better, though.
VNs are superior to anime, don't @ me

Because I constantly move between two houses, and it's just not an option.

I think I've got a pretty good idea of what I'm looking at now, thanks.
