So I just recently got a Zune and been wanting to put some videos on it. The only problem is that Zune only accepts .wmv and .mp4 (I think) so I've been looking for a video converter that can convert my videos to the right format.

Right now I have a thing called 'Any Video Converter' and it's been working well so far for my smaller files, but recently I've been trying to convert an .avi file to .wmv that is over an hour long and it doesn't seem to want to work. It only ends up doing about 14 minutes of the audio, and the video goes by so fast that it ends in those 14 minutes. << Plus I've been hearing bad stuff about this program.. Any suggestions as to what I should do?

Only for Windows. So, if you run Linux get Wine and run it through there. If you have Windows, just download and install and try it out.

Works great for me.

If all else fails, try running it through avidemux with the output set to one of those formats (I'd recommend wmv, avidemux seems to still have trouble with mp4) and see if that works.

Well, I looked up both of these suggestions, and for one of these I'd found out that for some reason when people converted .mkv they lost their subtitles.. now I'm not sure of the legitamy of that statement, but I do know that I have a lot of .mkv files waiting to be converted..

Also I tried installing both of these said programs and for some reason when I had downloaded them they didn't save. <:( I couldn't find the files anywhere on my computer, even after using the search bar, and I have no idea as to why..

You'll lose your subtitles if they're soft-subbed unless you make them hard-subs, since soft-subs are a different stream in the mkv container.

Also, as always, the best converter is probably mencoder (same place as you can get mplayer). Figure out how to use it and it'll convert anything to anything, and it'll do a good job of it, too.
