We have to admit, at one point we were all too young to have formed our own musical opinions. So who dictated what music we listened to on long road trips, etc. back in those days? Our parents/grandparents/legal guardians otherwise, of course.

This thread is all about the kind of music your parents or other parental figures listened to when you were just a small kid, and whether or not it influenced what kind of music you like today. :D

My dad came of age in Texas during the seventies, so he has a strong liking of Southern Rock, and later, 80's Heavy Metal. When I was a kid and he was in control of the radio station, it wasn't uncommon for me to hear Lynard Skynard, Queen, ZZ Top, or AC/DC. To this day, I still love me some Lynard Skynard...it just reminds me of my dad ever since he's been gone. I also still like classic Metal, but more contemporary death metal just turns me off. >_<

My mom, on the other hand, was more of a disco girl during the seventies and later, a fan of 80's Synthpop. To be honest, I still love some epic classics from that genre...but the fact that it 'evolved' into the N'Sync and Britney Spears crap that was around when I came of age just kept me away from the more contemporary versions. XD

To summarize, my current musical tastes envelope classic rock, contemporary punk rock, dance, 80's synthpop, j-pop, and video game remixes...some of it was influenced by my parents, obviously. XD

My mom is a heavy 70s rock listener so I got that from her. I gained my dislike of rap from my dad and the 80s pop music from him and modern techno from his previous job. Otherwise my taste in metal grew from hanging out with my best friend. Doesn't it always?

Both my mum & dad listened to 80's pop, they didn't really influence my taste in music at all. xD
Although, I do remember searching through my mum's vinyl collection and I did find one that I liked which was Isao Tomita, so that probably had an influence on my appreciation for electronic music.
Neither of them listen to rock music, which is what I mainly listen to now.

My mum listened to different things, which has rubbed off on me. I don't have a particular taste in music. My brother on the other hand is just like my dad, he likes 80s pop, and dance/trance tunes.

Definitely my dad. The vast, vast majority of the music that I listen to comes from CDs that he bought, usually remastered versions of records that came out when he was growing up. I don't buy very much music for myself because my dad has most likely already purchased any songs/albums that I would probably enjoy :\

I wish my parents had me listening to Mozart when I was a kid. :(

But yeah, it was mostly rock. Every time I here anything by Nirvana I get like a huge blast from the past.
Also, any of the popular groups from the 90s immediately get me.

My Dad only listens to Bob Dylan, and my mom listens to big artists from the sixties and seventies who have (happily) been forgotten by time.

My uncle's tastes rubbed off on me, though. I remember sitting at his house and he just kept PLAYING Poison, Guns N Roses, Quiet Riot, Slade, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Bob Marley, Led Zepplin, **** Sparrer, Creedance Clearwater Revival and Black Sabbath. Needless to say, he's the one who's responsible for un-purifying my soul, and the only person in my family who ever really encouraged me to find my own genres, and is the only serious rock fan in my family, apart from an aunt and another uncle.
