I was wondering if anyone had a list or actually know what the Pokemon are saying when you talk to them.

It seems like I get something different everytime I talk to them. I thought it was only going to be a happiness checker of sorts, but apparantly they do a lot more then that. I've seen different emotions when they're low on health, different conditions and for some reason, a little spazz after a Gym Leader battle.

I've tried looking for more information, but I haven't had much luck. Does any one know what exactly they are talking about when asked or do I have to wait until the English version in order to understand? (Talk about communication issues.)

Well from what I recall...

When the happiness level is very low, the text would say "it wouldn't look at you".

When the happiness level is around 70, the pokemon is most likely to just "stare at you".

If your partner pokemon is pretty close to you, they would have a smiling face when you talk to them, and the text would either show:
1/ *name of your partner pokemon*wants to play with you
2/ *name of your pokemon* feels great to follow you
3/ *names of your pokemon* dances happily
4/ *names of your pokemon* is very healthy (the in-game text says "genki" but I can't come up with a better vocabulary...)

When the pokemon is very close to you, the conversation box would appear to have a heart on it, and the partner pokemon does several things to you:
1/ suddenly hugs you
2/ the pokemon's face turn a bit red (a sign of affection)

Sometimes they would "keep looking at the mountain" or "keep looking at the sea" (when you're in those areas). In big city they're most likely to "keep looking at the buildings".

If you're on the beach, they would sometimes 'staring at your footprints" or "splash you with water" if you're near the sea.

Some remarkable actions to me would be:

In the game corner or the Kimono dance theatre, your partner pokemon would "dance in hype".

Your partner gets scared in Morty's gym 'cause it can't see what's in front and thought you're gone.

Fire pokemon tend to show a sad face when there is presence of water (notably Chunk's and Erika's gym), and when you're about to board SS Anne.

In Misty's gym, your partner pokemon might move around. The in-game text actually suggests that your partner is "performing warm-up exercises".

Some pokemon (well my Furret is) seem to be scared and very nervous when they're in Mt Silver.

There are still a lot more than I could list... I have to say I'm really impressed by this partner pokemon function in HGSS. =D

They also appear to be angry when you talk to them in parts of the Radio Tower (like the second floor) during the Team Rocket Takeover part. There's a fair amount of messages in all, they seem to have done a decent job with it IMO.

My Croconaw just asked me a question. I said yes and it now seems angry at me. Anybody know what sort of questions are asked by Pokemon?

Oh I think your Croconaw holds something. You selected "yes", that means you asked your Croconaw to hand over that item, and it's angry because "it seems that item is very precious to your Croconaw".

Most of the time your partner Pokemon would happily hand over items they hold though. Consider yourself unlucky. XD

Interesting, because I got another question asked by my Bellsprout and said No this time, it seemed rather happy. I presume its happy to keep its precious item, right?

I was a bit disappointed with some. It would have been cool if Alakazam or Slowking spoke in "human" language, at least a few times...

Yes you're right. =]

Oh I found out some more: During gym battles, it seems that your partner pokemon is at ease if its elemental type is super effective to the gym. On the other hand, your partner pokemon would be a bit nervous if the gym's elemental type is super effective against your partner.

Then I wonder why my Croconaw went a little beserk when I was up against Bugsy. Last time I checked, Water was alright against Bug.

Do you know what the music note, shaking, !, ..., and look around emotions are?

The emoticons are more or less linked with the message that comes before/after it.

It's interesting how some Pokemon have special emotions that can only be seen in specific areas.
There's a whole list of it in the wiki in my link, but the list is huge and it's in Japanese.

As for the emotions that come with a yes/no, I was surprised to see so many variations of them.

Your following Pokémon when sent to a foreign region also feels upset when away from home. Basically, you can say it displays signs of being homesick. For example, if you were to take a Johto Pokémon to Kanto it would show a sad emotion. Again though, they really took the feature above and beyond with everything they have included with the simple Following Feature, it's definitely a bonus to the game.

This was in discussion earlier, and of course it is known that when you trade a Pokémon to a new owner it starts of disliking them. However, overtime it does gradually increase to like the player more and this is what I expect to happen. I'm sure it'll have a case of homesickness at times, but I wouldn't expect it to be all the time. Just like a few occurrences when the player decides to check their Pokémon's emotion or mood, while at other times it says something differently.

Tried doing that now with transferral from Platinium.

End result: Latias seems over joyed to be in a new region after transfer, Latios and Darkrai hate me, Cresellia and Shaymin seem scared of the new region and Lucario couldn't care less, he just gave the ... look.

Certain pokemon also like/dislike places with weather

Grass types don't like Hail/The Ice Path
Water types love rain, Fire types hate even stepping in the shores and the water in Chuck's gym

Dang, I wasn't expecting anything like that! The amount of detail put into these games seems amazing from what I've heard so far!

It seems they've really thought about each type of Pokemon. I mean... Wow.

I can't remember but I think Fearow had that sad/annoyed face when I was in a cave so maybe..

also Rock/Ground types also hate Rain

and Moltres won't hate you if you go surfing, since it doesn't follow you when you surf.

There is also a Poison status/icon when they get poisoned. Frozen pokemon will have that same sad/annoyed face with the curly eyebrow thing

I would've thought it would've been a bit tricky for a Frozen pokemon to follow you, so it wouldn't come out. Lol at the thought of pulling a Pokemon trapped in ice behind you.

Got to explore a bit more with the options, but yes, as suggested before. They really did a darn lot with this feature. To think I haven't really ssen anywhere give this enough detail in English.

Hopefully we don't get a simplified version over here, otherwise i bet i won't be the only angry one.

But wow, way better than i expected, by the sounds of things.i thought you'd have silly things like Dugtrio following you over the sea.
