IIRC the only place I find paper bags is Burger King. o_O
The grocery stores here only provides plastic bags as well ...although some stores they charge it for 5/10 cents each. And that cause my mum to complain. XD

I like paper bag more because it smells nicer with the food. :3

I've been asked paper or plastic, even at my uni's common store. D: I prefer plastic because you can fit your groceries in more and also can use them as trash bags. :P Also, they don't break as easily as paper if you're not careful. XD

I've been asked paper or plastic at like some weird organic store, and I was like, "Wtf, you guys carry plastic? Doesn't this go against like, 90% of why you exist?"

But I like paper.
Not because it's environmentally friendly, but that is a plus.

I like paper because I feel cooler when I tote around paper bags. |D
they're so crisp and clean.
I feel dumpy when I carry around plastic ones.

..... That might be a little weird, but... whatever. :(

Our grocery store only provides plastic bags, but my mom and I use the reusable tote bag things for our groceries.
Pretty much this. Everywhere I go they only can offer plastic, but buying those little tote bags are nicer.
blessed mother. 😈

I am the same. It's better for the environment and they don't tear like paper. I can use it to carry anything else I want, too.

Plastic.

The environment can just go suck it. (it's actually because I reuse plastic bags for lunches and cleaning up doggie "presents")

The upscale grocery store near my parents is the only one I know of that still carries paper bags, and they assume you want plastic unless you speak up at checkout. Plastic bags have seemingly endless uses around the dorm, but back in middle school we did use paper bags to make textbook covers :P

I still prefer plastic, though.

Like Elite Overlord, my usual supermarket will assume you want plastic unless you ask for paper, but i use those bag for life things anyway. I reuse plastic bags but the paper ones just rip too easily.

I've never been asked, all the grocery stores here happen to only carry plastic bags now a days. There have been times when they offered us to purchase any reusable tote bags, but my parents declined. I do prefer plastic bags over paper bags though. Reason being is because we usually tend to reuse them over again for either trash bags for places such as the kitchen or bathrooms. Plus, if we ever have to carry anything we use them over again as well. It comes in handy you can say.

Never been asked that, but most stores carry only plastic bags. So I go with plastic.

Either. Paper bags are biodegradable, which means it's safe to throw it because it's made of organic chemicals. But the downside is it's fragile. Plastic bags are the other way around. But there are plastics that are biodegradable.

I prefer paper in most cases because of the bio-degradable issue, but I'll take up plastic at times when I decide to re-use something over and over.
But I guess nowadays there are plastic capable of bypassing that issue due to different compositions, so plastic is good, I guess...

What ever happened to carrying one's own robust textile bag?
Anyway, I'm never offered such a choice and often take things in my pockets but I'd rather a paper one, they don't stretch, but it depends which is better made.

I've been asked paper or plastic at like some weird organic store, and I was like, "Wtf, you guys carry plastic? Doesn't this go against like, 90% of why you exist?"
If that's organic food, it really has nothing to do with the wellbeing of the environment.

I haven't been asked paper or plastic since... I'd probably say the commissary over in Germany. The grocery store we usually go to now sometimes asks if plastic's okay, but we always get plastic. Easier to carry up the stairs, and we hoard the bags anyway, usually for trash. Only time we got paper bags was when we had to make book covers, anyway, and I'd have to remind the parents to get them. My family must have something against paper.

If given a choice between paper and plastic, I'd take paper to be more environmentally friendly (although, that's killing trees. So, what the hey).

There are recycle plastic bags. But grocery stores don't use them, instead you either have to buy a reusable cloth bag for a $1 and pay 5 cents for every plastic bag they give you.

I'm okay with the cloth bags for most things. But I do not want to put meat or fish in those. If I can avoid having to wash the thing, I will. So, I grab extra plastic bags from the fruit and vegetable area to wrap the meat and fish XD

And I forget the damn cloth bag in the car half the time.

I assume you guys have never worked in a grocery store eh? Well I did the job for awhile and as a grocery bagger we loved using plastic. It was easier to work with, cheaper than paper, and no paper cuts!

With that said I like plastic better (can re use to pack lunches, as a trash bag, carry anonymous junk..) but the store I help run we only use paper bags. Which is fine.
