This knowledge was imparted to me by an Australian who was patiently teaching me to say "can I have a beer, mate?" with a convincing accent:

Generally, Americans can speak with American accents, but need help speaking in other ones. People from other English speaking countries can speak their respective accents AND pull off half-decent American accents without even trying because there is so much American television and other media swamping the English speaking world.

Australians actors/actresses like Hugh Jackman or Natalie Imbruglia are also awesome too, I must say.

Some of Asian actors like Maggie Q, Lucy Liu, Zhang Zi Yi, or Vaness Wu are considered "international-level", but they need to appear more in Hollywood movies to go more international.

Damn, I was hoping to get to post Hugh Jackman first XD

But speaking of Hugh Jackman, he is by far the best actor ever... well in my opinion that is to say. Oh and that guy from The Mentalist who is also Australian.

Simon Baker? Yeah he's good.
Believe it or not, my mum was his boss in a grocery store when he was like 14/15.

In terms of American VS International, I think American win out because of the number of American shows/movies that are shown overseas.

Lot's of Canadian actors:

Mike Myers
Jim Carrey
Leslie Nielson
Carrie-Ann Moss (I think)
etc

Depending on what role they are asked to play, I'd say there isn't much difference, aside from the Hollywood drama (media).

I have to say I agree with this. I mean have you heard Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider? She just can't pull it off. Hugh Laurie on the other hand, you wouldn't know he was English if the only thing you had seen/heard him in was House.
