I was playing Sapphire version a while back and training my Alakazam. The opponent had a Shiftry, but I felt like being stubborn and seeing how long my psychic could last against the sinister tree. So I used Future Sight and then spammed Calm Mind to see what happened. To my surprise, the Future Sight attack ignored the Dark-type immunity to Psychic attacks, and my Alakazam won the match. Does anyone else have stories of attacks completely ignoring type rules?

Actually, Future Sight says it is Psychic type but is actually typeless. The reason? Probably since it take about 2 turns, the opponent would switch in a dark type to ignore the damage. So the makers said, "Let's make it typeless!"

The same story goes for Jirachi's Doom Desire. Even if it is steel, it effects all types for normal damage.

It's typeless in the same way that damage done each turn by moves such as whirlpool, sand tomb, wrap and so on are typeless.

I'm pretty sure that all status attacks ignore typings, except for stuff like WillOWisp or Toxic.

I wish Bonemerang could hit flying types. Marowak would be even more of a beast.

Yeah, I could actually envision a P.O.'ed Marowak hucking a bone at a Spearow and knocking the poor thing out of the sky.

Struggle is considered a Normal attack but it is typeless for obvious reasons. If two Ghost types ended up using Struggle and the attack wasn't typeless, then the battle will be a stalemate and nobody would ever win.
