Cardcaptor Sakura is my favorite anime ever. I've probably seen the series two or three times just this year. I really like the character development and how everyone feels completely differently about each other by the end of the series.

The animation was very good, especially for a late 90s anime. If you watched the English dub, you probably didn't see any character development because they cut all of it out.

The series had a great ending, and while I didn't like the fancy animation style that the second movie used, it was still wonderful.

sorry I don't like CCS in english even the 4Kids didn't dubbed this anime
I disliked it in English as well. They cut out a lot of what made the series great.

As horrible as it was, I can't absolutely hate the English version because it's what sparked my interest in Japanese anime. If I hadn't heard about all the changes, I would never have gotten into subbed anime nor broadened my horizons to watch things that weren't just dubbed. Or well, maybe I would have, but it would've taken years. :<

At any rate, I adore Cardcaptor Sakura, though I don't think I've ever seen the whole anime in its entirety. I've seen the first season for sure, and most of the second season, but I'm pretty sure I've only seen bits and pieces of the third season. I keep meaning to go through and watch the whole thing but the friend I was watching with just kind of... stopped. We never picked it back up. Maybe I should go ahead on my own when I get some free time.

The entire cast is just adorable and the series itself is so lighthearted and feel-good. The animation is top-notch for its era and I just... sdklfs I love it. Now I feel like watching it, haha. ♥

Why do you keep bringing up 4kids? Yeah, CCS has a crappy dub on par with some of the stuff 4kids used to churn out but they're two entirely unrelated entities. @[email protected];

Does anyone else remember that website that chronicled every minute change in episodes from CCS to CC? I don't remember what it was called or even if it's still around but I loved reading up on all the changes, especially since some would just be so pointless.

if 4 kids dubbed this anime probarly some episode will not air same as pokemon episode 18,34,38,251 and 101 (pokemon advance)
I'd be quite fine with never having a company consider making another CCS dub ever again. OTOH, I would love to see some English subs of the BR discs. Perhaps for a price below $1000 for the full set?

Hopefully I'll never see the full list; it'd probably put me in tears. I watched one episode right before watching the dubbed version so I could play "spot the differences." Horrible experience. :'(

Aawww.. man.. this series brings up so many memories for me. ; ;

My best friend and I used to watch the dub when it aired on Kids WB. Every Friday night we'd have a sleep over, either she'd stay at my house or I would stay at hers. We'd set the alarm to go off five minutes before the show started, so it would give us time to go downstairs and get our cereal, then we'd rush to turn on the TV. xD We'd always sing the theme song, and each of us had the toy Clow book/cards, and Kero plushies. (Keep in-mind that we were like.. 9 or 10. :x )

Good times, good times..

Anyhoo! >_>

I've seen most of the series, but to this day... never seen it all. I loved the movies though, and even though my best friend and I are both in our 20's now, she'll still occasionally come over and be all "OMG, Lets watch CSS!" ...and we do. I'm just glad that I have access to Japanese version these days. xD;

I remember that site! XD I liked reading all the weird changes they made to the dub.. that website was what made me realize how awful it was in comparison.

OMG, Lets watch CSS!
I love watching CSS. Oh, the beauty of the stylesheets and their wonderful cascading! :3

The English dub got me into the series, too, which really speaks for the quality of CCS. I mean, if they can butcher it and it's STILL good, you know CLAMP did something right (then again, they do EVERYTHING right).

Ah yes, the show that introduced me to anime... and then I discovered the original Japanese version which was so much better... Suffice to say I really do like this series. The story is interesting, the character designs are done well, and Sakura-chan is so kawaii (sorry, had to throw that in there XD)

I have a little Kero figure sitting on my desk right now.

There's something about this series that lets it be so sweet and positive and uplifting without making you want to gag yourself. It's the kind of show that almost makes me want to have kids just so I could show it to them. I'll probably still want to rewatch it 5, 10 years from now.

I've thought that a few times. I don't think I want kids, but if I had any, I'd show this series to them.

I wish I had a Kero figurine. :'(

I don't have much CCS stuff. :( I have a Book of Clow (which is pretty awesome) and then a bunch of posters but that's it. I'd love a Kero plush but the only ones I've ever seen are way overpriced for something so small. ;_;

Didn't we have a thread like this before? XD

Well I remember the Pinoy dubz, liked it a bit.

Never really got to the "loving" part until I obsessed over it in 2006. XP

Do I like Cardcaptors or not? Heck, I love it.:classic:

My thoughts exactly! sdklfs I love it.
Actually, this is the more appropriate term fitting me for this too!:laugh:

Here's the thing: Actually, I never watched the whole thing in its entirety.
As an example, I haven't watched the movie(s) and a few episodes. But I know I love what I have seen of it. One of my favourites.

You really can't say that English dubs are meant to be bad. It's just that they don't put too much effort onto the English ones and cut out too much. That's actually really sad.

As a fan to other fans, I feel everyone should know that the main theme of the anime in Japanese is relationships, while in English the main theme has been forced into the cards and fights themselves.
Why was this done? It's because back in that time, it was one of the first few animes to get dubbed and enter the USA.
The people who did the dub thought at that time that in USA the number of girl audiences for animes is very low, and the noticeable part is boys. So they thought that an anime heavily focusing on relationships would be a bad idea since most boys would probably not like it.
But they thought the fighting part would be interesting, and so they cut out a lot so as to focus more on the cards.

I wish the English dub was remade, this time seriously and without any cuts. It's never gonna happen though...
It's because listening to what people has to say is much more fun than reading subs and looking at the screen at the same time.
They also thought some of the views were unacceptable in the anime. The Japanese audience has a greater level of maturity in these things on average, so they are totally fine with that.

But hey, as much as the Japanese version is loved by me, I also love the English versions for what they are. It's probably because I don't understand Japanese much... Not more than a few words and sentences...
But I know the English one is what got me into it, and I love it for that too.
I know I absolutely love the English songs for opening and ending in their translated forms too, though I know their lyrics are way better in the Japanese and I don't understand Japanese, and the English lyrics suck. But the songs are sooo great anyways.:classic:

The English dub got me into the series, too, which really speaks for the quality of CCS. I mean, if they can butcher it and it's STILL good, you know CLAMP did something right (then again, they do EVERYTHING right).
Quoted for truth.

I think there is an English dub out there somewhere that isn't cut, but I don't care enough to find it; I watch my stuff subbed anyway (preference).

As for the image, yeah, go for it; it's not like I made it. If I did, it would be public domain like everything else I make.

Well, of course I like Cardcaptor Sakura. I've seen a few english episodes 9 years ago. I have now seen all 70 episodes. It was all right for me. Sometimes I wish it had more than 70 episodes. At least it had 2 movies.

Two amazing kids series from the 1980's.

I know Geneon rereleased the DVDs subbed, and I think they didn't do any dubbing on them, I believe they also dubbed the second CCS movie, which is surprisingly good

The dub was better than the Nelvana one, but some of the actors still sounded too old for their parts. Kari Wahlgren (who voiced Sakura in the second movie's English dub) was tolerable, but she didn't come off as sounding anything like a child. On the other hand, Sakura Tange, who does Sakura's voice in the original Japanese dub, actually makes Sakura sound like a child in elementary school; her voice acting is absolutely brilliant. In fact, all of the Japanese voice actors were marvelous, in my opinion. The only thing close to a complaint I have is that Tomoyo's voice was a bit high-pitched, but I'm not entirely sure that wasn't intentional; besides, she nailed the songs perfectly and did a very good job with Tomoyo's polite rich person-type style of speaking. Even if the entire series was re-dubbed fifty times, I doubt that any English cast would be able to capture all the idiosyncrasies of the characters in a way that wouldn't be annoying (Kero's Osaka accent was mostly ignored in the Nelvana dub, which I think may have been the correct choice; it's really annoying when Osaka accents are dubbed as Texas or New York accents).
