I got this idea from reading this article: http://www.aolradioblog.com/2009/12/14/top-metal-songs-of-the-decade-2000s/

I completely disagreed with it. Slipknot should not make it to the top of any metal list and Metallica isn't really even metal anymore, so I created my own list:

1. More Than Meets The Eye - Testament, (The Formation of Damnation, 2008)
2. Sleepwalker - Megadeth, (United Abominations, 2007)
3. Redneck - Lamb of God, (Sacrament, 2006)
4. Bleed - Meshuggah, (obZen, 2008)
5. Far Beyond Metal - Strapping Young Lad, (The New Black, 2007)
6. Living Dead Beat - Children of Bodom, (Are You Dead Yet?, 2003)
7. Rainmaker - Iron Maiden, (Dance of Death, 2003)
8. Blood and Thunder - Mastodon, (Leviathan, 2004)
9. Aesthetics of Hate - Machine Head, (The Blackening, 2007)
10. Revolution Is My Name - Pantera, (Reinventing the Steel, 2000)

What are yours?

OOO! Nice thread :D

1. Ruin - Lamb Of God
2. Blood & Thunder - Mastodon
3. Warborn - The Black Dahila Murder
4. The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears - Machine Head
5. Boneyards - Parkway Drive
6. Cypher Drone - Disarmonia Mundi
7. Forever - As I Lay Dying
8. Revolution Is My Name - Pantera
9. Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Marta - Trivium
10. Reise Reise - Rammstein

They aren't in order. I love all of them to choose which is best ><'

On the subject of that 'Top 10'.
I don't think Slipknot, Killswitch or Metallic should be in it ><
I like all three of the bands, but those songs aren't THAT good.

7. Clouds Over California - Devildriver
Crap. I knew I was forgetting a song, I KNEW IT. I want to put Clouds Over California somewhere on my list, but I don't want to take anything out. :[

1. Ruin - Lamb Of God
You WOULD place Ruin as number one. :P I was debating with myself when picking a song by Lamb of God. I was stuck with choosing either Laid to Rest, Walk With Me In Hell, and Redneck sooo I just picked the one I listen to more often.

Yeah, that top 10 list is crap. It just angers me that Metallica is being recognized and praised for a genre that they used to play as DECADES AGO. This is how I see them: 80s Metallica > 90s Metallica > 00s Metallica. Their last four albums don't even sound like them.

1. Octavarium - Dream Theater (2005)
I can't get into Dream Theater. I have listened to a few of their songs, but nothing so far has an impact. Recommend me their best album?

Or maybe I'm just not that into prog. :[

I don't really have a top 10 for music because there are so many good songs and bands out there.
You will, however, find many Scandinavian bands on my list because I prefer them.

Among my favorites are

Carpathian Forest - Christian Incoherent Drivel
Carpathian Forest - The Well of All Human Tears
Fintroll - Trollhammaren
Immortal - Blashyrkh
Marduk - Panzer Division Marduk
Månegarm - Darkness Scars My Soul
Naglfar - 12th Rising
Naglfar - Enslave the Astral Fortress
Shade Empire - Harvesters Of Death
Vintersorg - The Enigmatic Spirit

Generally speaking (as can be evidenced from this list) I mostly listen to black metal with some mixtures of viking, death and folk metal.

That's a tough one considering it tends to be my favorite album by them. :P I suppose it really depends on how "heavy" you like their music. Their earlier stuff is generally not as heavy as their past few albums. If you're into the heavier sound I'd suggest you check out the "Train of Thought", "Systematic Chaos", and "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" albums, and quite possibly "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence". The rest of their albums have their fair share of heavy material but tend to be a bit lighter as a whole. :P
