Hi all, I'm new to this site tonight and would like some help.

I have just bought a Gameboy Advance SP, and am looking into which Pokemon game I should buy. Please can I have some advice into people's opinions into the best one for GBA SP. This can be Gameboy, Gameboy Colour or GBA game's. I really like the classic Blue/Red/Yellow, however they arent as technologically advanced as the newer ones? I like these ones because of the original Pokemon, but in the Gold/Silver/Emerald ones, does it have new pokemon etc?

So anyones opinion on the best one to get would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, Brendan. :classic:

well, first of all, hi welcome to the forums, and if i were you i would buy the emerald version but it has newer pokemon, so maybe fire red or leafgreen version are a good choice since it's a remake of red or green version so... welcome again! :)
Who doesn't like Sinnoh now?

Welcome! If you're looking for a SP game, I'd suggest FireRed or LeafGreen (look at the exclusive Pokemon per version to decided which).
They are remakes of Red/Blue/Yellow. I'd personally suggest buying a DS and getting either HeartGold or SoulSilver though (:.

Make sure to read the rules and FAQ's!!

Yeah, I would also suggest Fire Red/Leaf Green or Emerald on the SP. Although if you want a really new one, I would also suggest getting a DS and getting the pokemon games on there (I'm currently waiting for Soul Silver =p). Oh, and welcome by the way!

P.S. It's weird how this morning I was playing on my own GameBoy Advance SP =p I was continuing my old Crystal game ^_^

Thanks guys. Well I'm not sure If I'd like the new pokemon or not. Is it a chore to get used to them? I think Im'll going to get one of the classics and one of the new ones.

So its either :

Yellow
Blue
Red
Gold
Silver

And one of :

Fire Red
Leaf Green
Emerald

What are the differences between Red/Blue/Yellow and Gold/Silver?

Also what are the advantages/disadvantages of the new ones (GBA)?

Again, Many thanks, Brendan. :)
Well, it does take some getting used to, I guess it just depends on the person. I personally like the older games, but the remakes bring it justice too =p The differences are that in R/B/Y:

1) There's no color (H/G has it)
2) Pikachu is out (H/G can't do that, but in the remake you can have any pokemon do that)
3) Harder?? (I'm not sure about this one)
4) New pokemon are in H/G
5) [Other information anyone wants to add] ^^;

There aren't any more new ones to the GBA (I think), but the most recent ones are Emerald, Fire Red, and Leaf Green. I don't really see and disadvantages, but some advantages might be that there are new things to do, and that its more user friendly (?) Sorry if my facts aren't right ^^; but I'll help you as much as I can ^_^

Thanks :) Sorry to sound like a real noob, but what is H/G? *Embarassed Smiley*

Oh haha that's ok. I just shortened Gold and Silver to...!? H/G? haha ^^; I accidentally put H/G for Heart Gold (my fault there) I actually meant to put G/S for Gold and Silver...:P

Yup, I think it has all of the original pokemon + the new ones.

For Nintendo, I play my DSi, GBA SP, Wii and (I used to play) my GBA & GameBoy Color. I also have a Super Nintendo, but I don't play it so often. I have a PS2 & my brothers and I got an Xbox 360 for Christmas =p

Okay cheers. Isnt Gold/Silver has all 150 pokemon from the original's plus 100 more? If so, I'll probably get one of those, and a GBA one. Thanks again pal :)

Just wondering, what do you play? DS?

Hello! Welcome to the forum! ^_^

I love the older gameboy games myself. I think Gold or Silver would be a great choice if you are planning on an older GB game with all the originals plus another 100. But, they are coming out with the re-vamped G/S on the DS, and they look really nice. ^^

I have played the original Red, Blue and Yellow, but also most of Fire Red, and I think if you're going to play on the GBA, the Fire Red or Leaf Green are nice revisions of the originals with newer graphics and a few more features. As much as I love the classics, the re-vamped versions aren't so bad. ;) They're all in color, too and not just Red, Blue or Yellow. And I think a lot of stores have them used. Well, more so than the old Gameboy games. I've seen a lot of the GBA versions of the games at Gamestop used.

I haven't played Emerald, but from what I've played of Ruby, I liked it. Not as much as Silver/Gold, but it wasn't too bad. I think a lot of people like Emerald better though.

I got a DS yesterday myself and a Pearl Version, and I don't think the new Pokemon really take any getting used to or are a chore at all. There are new things, better graphics and more stuff to do, but so far I am really enjoying them. So, if you plan on getting a DS anytime soon, I think the newer pokemon are decent enough to play (Pearl, Diamond and Platinum). (And of course the Gold and Silver being re-released again in a month!)

I play pokemon on the DSi but also my old Gameboy Advance has Yellow Version still.

I hope this helped a bit. ^^

Okay, So I think I've shortlisted it to 4 games now. :)

Yellow - Because its a newer version of Blue/Red I found out last night, and also has colour.
Gold - Been recommended a few times, and it has a longer life span? And also you can 'shortcut' things e.g your bike?
Fire Red/Leaf Green - You lot say its good, plus its just a remake of the original ones.
Emerald - Seems this is the favourite, so it must be good, right?

So there's the 4, now I need narrow it down to two I reckon, one gba and one Colour game. Because having 4 would be a little too much, surely? Ahh I've got a plan, my bro was saying he might get an SP too, so if he does, we can get all 4 and share them all :D

Again, thanks alot guys :)
