I'm absolutely sick of random battles. That's why I ALWAYS carry a Repel or two or three or 200, except for really early in the game. Otherwise I always have them.

I also hate trainers with more than two pokemon. Especially the Magikarp trainers. I'm going to avoid HG/SS' Magikarp trainer. ._.

Caves aren't that annoying in my opinion, as long as i'm carrying a few Repels. Not surfing either. The only games I hated surfing in was D/P because it was so damn slow. ~_~

The only thing I really don't like is Victory Road and lame TMs like Defog/Flash/Whirlpool the other ones are fine because they at least do damage.

I kinda like having the common pokemon like Zubat and such because they make EV training way easier.

I feel like the tradition part is why I play the games tbh.

Na, they're kinda, good.Otherwise gyms would be boring.

For me, it's HMs.Well, I don't mind them, but a game I saw in Showcase had this idea of the size and typing of the pokemon enabling it to do things. For example, Dragonite can fly, Starly isn't strong enough to carry you.
Lapras can Surf, Zigzagoon is too small, so can't.

I'd at least like it to be possible to go through places like Victory Road (where you need your full team) without using HMs.Even if it means you miss out on items that you need HMs for, at least it'd be an option

HM's can burn in hell. xD
AMEN.

Flash and Defog had no VERY useful utility in battle, and yet they had to be used because "the cave's too dark" or "the path's too foggy". What next, the "wall's too rocky"?
Oh wait, it already exists.

I'm sick of HMs too. Lets cut them out of the games.

And Rock-type gym leaders as the first gym. 3/4 of games have had Rock as the first gym, it's getting ridiculous now.

And I hate that the early Pokemon are always in the same Rattata/Pidgey/Caterpie mold (Sentret/Hoothoot/Spinarak, Zigzagoon/Taillow/Wurmple, Bidoof/Starly/Kricketot). And there's always Zubat, Geodude, Tentacool and Gastly. Some more variation please.

Yeah...HMs.... can just stop existing. At least transfer their abilities into Key Items. The best they could do, and someone mentioned this, would be to make HM usage a CHOICE, not forced. It's ridiculous when a crappy move (Rock Smash, Rock Climb, Cut) is pretty much required to pass the game. Players shouldn't have to choose between having a useless HM slave or wasting Move Slots for Pokemon.

Another crappy tradition? The emergence of more and more Pokemon that are just copies of older Pokemon, except better (Staraptor is a better version of Pidgeot, Inernape is a better version of Blaziken, Gallade is a better version of Medicham, etc)

Another tradition I can't stand? Please don't kill me, but random battles....Why can't you just see the Pokemon walking in the grass? Then, if you want to battle that specific kind, you could just approach them. I realize that they are supposed to be hiding in the grass, but there is NO WAY that a giant, such as Steelix, can hide in a cave and "surprise you" by popping out of nowhere (assuming it hasn't popped out of the ground)
I personally think it would improve the game if they used a "Tales" method of wild battles, you see the wild Pokemon, and if they see you, they chase you. You can either battle, or avoid it. It would save tediousness, and perhaps, open up new innovations with how easy it is to catch "roaming legends" (they could try to get away from you, before you battle them).
Unlikely, but it would be cool.

I disagree about Victory Road and Gym Puzzles, I find those "challenges" interesting, and wish they were more difficult puzzles instead (like, the Ice puzzle in Johto).

^ agree with the above statement

I do think that it would be nicer if they would stop trying to do repeats of old Pokemon. I mean, Rotom was probably the best achievement of Gen IV. It was original. Everything else was either a repeat of an old Pokemon, or a Prevo or Evo.

Now I see alot of people don't like the HMs. Don't get me worng, I find them a bit annoying, but its supposed to make you do a tough decision.

Now as for the random battles, well get used to it. Sorry but that's simply part of Pokemon. But I REALLY love AmbiantShrine's idea:

Why can't you just see the Pokemon walking in the grass? Then, if you want to battle that specific kind, you could just press A.
That would be totally awesome! I love this idea. Yes it would take away the traditional element of pure surprise, but it would be really fun to do. Imagine that though. What if they were like trainers even? But they just walked around and around. But then caves would be filled with Zubats walking everywhere! Also, wouldn't that make catching rare Pokemon easier? Perhaps if they ran away when you tried talking to them...

Anyways, neat thread!

I want a game where you can enter a cave that's part of the main storyline and have my whole team with me without any HM slaves.

I want Victory Road to be something other than a cave. When I first played D/P, I thought Victory Road was going to be just a long surf route.

Another thing I want is pokemon being able to cut trees, carry you across water etc without those annoying HMs. It would be better if certain pokemon can use certain HM moves without having them wasting their moveset spaces.

Especially since certain moves (Slash, for instance) seem like they should be able to cut trees better then CUT. >>

And it seems to me that Pokemon like....Machamp, should be able to move rocks without learning a specific fail of a move.

Oh, and another Kingdom Hearts fan ^^ Though, my favorite character is Naminé.

HMs just make no sense. Feraligatr, for example. A fierce swimmer and surely a master of the water? No, you need to teach it how to swim and dive etc >.>

Same for bird pokemon and fly. You have wings! I don't have to personally show you how to use them...

Down with HM's! Except for Fly, Surf, Waterfall, and Strength if they gave it 15 or 20 more base power.

Bikes are old school. I want to see Segways in 5th gen.

Should Victory Road, the gateway to the prestigious Pokemon league, be some rocky, poorly maintained cave? Why not some grand, elegant hall where you're stopped by trainers along the way (and you can rematch them as many times as you want to level up).

Finally rectified in 4th gen: A female champion.

Speaking of which, when you beat the champion, you should actually become the champion instead of, you know, the person you just defeated reclaiming the title.

I'm definitely sick of HM's. I think they should just be incorporated into Pokemon that can use them. For example, if I have a Lapras on my team, that Lapras would be able to carry me around whether it has a stupid move or not, so I should be able to surf with it regardless of its moves. The battle move surf should just become learnable at certain levels or be a TM. Either way it should be completely irrelevant to the out-of-combat ability. The same goes for the rest of the HMs. As well, they should be more adequately applied, as someone else said. Like, Pidgey and Wingull and other tiny birds shouldn't be allowed to fly their trainers around, because there's no way they'd be able to carry them.

I love these ideas.

I wish they'd ... stop making so many legendaries. I'm sick of each generation getting 2 more legends than the last one did.
This too. If they're "legendary" Pokemon, why is it that you always run into them? They should just quit incorporating tons of legendaries into every game's plot line. Maybe one or two should be introduced in each generation, and they shouldn't be part of the required plot; it should be something to strive for after you win at the Pokemon League.

Speaking of the Pokemon League, I hate the Elite Four and Champion scenario. What makes them so "elite"? If average people like us are beating them on a day-to-day basis, they're obviously not the best. I'd rather it be more like the anime with a series of battling the best trainers from around the region competing to get to the top, rather than the same four stuck-up pricks just sitting there waiting for you to show up so you can beat them over and over again while listening to them talk about how amazing they are. The trainers you battle to get to the top should be different each time, maybe picked from a random pool of Pokemon and trainers, similar to the various areas of the Battle Frontier.

Another thing that bugs me is that you're required to "go get eight badges and challenge the Pokemon League" with every game. Now that there are so many other things to do in the game (breeding, EV training, Wi-Fi battling, the Battle Frontier, Pokemon Contests, and Athletic Contests in HG/SS), I don't think it should be required anymore. It's such a drag having to get a decent enough team to get through to the Pokemon League and win, to then finally be able to do what you want to do. It's such a waste of time and makes me always hate the entire first twenty+ hours of game-play. If people want to get eight badges and challenge the Pokemon League, they should be able to, but they shouldn't have to.

And another thing, I'm tired of in-combat full restores and potions in general. I can't count the number of times I've gotten the opposing Pokemon down to the red and then had the other trainer use a full restore or hyper potion. Think of that in a real battle: "I don't think that Pokemon can hold on much longer!" *Trainer runs out into the middle of the field and gives their Pokemon medicine.* "Nevermind folks; it looks like they've returned to full health!" >_> Held items are OK, but I wish there was an option to turn off using "man-made" items; like Fulls Heals, Potions, and Revives; during battle.

One last thing: Team Rocket/Magma/Aqua/Galactic can all die in a fire as far as I'm concerned. They're so annoying! I know they're classic to the Pokemon games, but I hate every moment I have to spend chasing after them time and time again.

Apologies for the super long rant. Once I got going I just couldn't help myself. ^_^

HMs can stay, they add sort of a handicap to the game, make it a little harder. What I would like though if after beating the Elite 4 you get a set of key items that take care of fog/trees/rocks/etc for you. I'd change the rather biast luck in the battle tower if anything. The amount of time's I've fallen to a OHKO move I don't care to count.

I wouldn't mind if HMs were in the game but my god make them deletable like any other move, I mean I hate to inconvenience myself to go to the move deleter to get rid of one, it's ridiculous.

I also agree with the person who said trainers with the Magikarps, I mean come on that's just a waist of time.

The Bike. Not that I don't like the concept, but make it original for Pete's sake! As many have said, I detest HM's. I'd rather you have special key items that help you get through. HM slaves just take up space when you're trying to train... and catch legendaries. I wanted to have a good team with a good moveset when challenging Dialga and Palkia, but nooo, I had to use stupid HM slaves! I'm sick of it! And Victory Road needs more variety, quit making it a long cave every time! A better idea would be to have it outside, you know, with fresh air, so people can breathe when training their Pokemon. Just a tad more realistic there, thanks. And let the Vs. Seeker work inside! I'm sick of trying to train against good trainers and running out of options because you can't battle anyone in caves.
My team that beat White:

Zekrom, Victini, Vanillish, Eagle, Samurai, and Excadrill
Unfortunately, for the time being, I cannot trade. My DS recently quit on me and I don't have the money to repair/replace it currently
I don't calculate stat values, I don't breed my way to perfection, and I don't care about natures. I catch my Pokemon the way they are, and treat them like individuals instead of brainless drones. If you use this philosophy, copy & paste this into your signature (however, I do build competitive movesets and do minimal EV training, just not ignore the Pokemon based on stats ;)).

Just a better variety of wild pokemon for places. In 5 gen, there will be over 500 pokemon. There's no reason why you couldn't fill the grass/ocean/caves with more different pokemon. I wouldn't care if they changed heaps, but I'm pretty sure most people would complain. To many people a afraid of change.

Edit: HMs. Either make special key items to use instead, or make the HMs deletable like every other move!

HMs are less tradition and more needed because they're a good broken bridge to force you to not sequence-break the game (like you could in the original GSC skipping to Mahogany before Olivine).

Also, VS Seeker inside would be nice.

Although I don't agree with Victory Road being uncavey. It's always been cavey and it feels wrong un-cavey. So it needs to be cavey.

But a smaller cave with some ocean and grassy area would be nice too.

I also want a fully-island world just to annoy those "I HATE HOENN 2 MUCH WATER" people.
Everything ends,
and that's always sad.
But everything begins again, too,

lame TMs like Defog/Flash/Whirlpool the other ones are fine because they at least do damage.
Whirlpool does do damage. =(

The Pokémon RPGs have a long-standing pile of traditions that they've adhered to for years. Some of us ought to be sick of them since they're of the wrong kind, or some of the traditions have become stale. Don't lie - a lot of you must be sick to death of these traditions, and here's the thread where you can vent your case. :D

For example, Victory Road has been in every game so far and has evolved into a puzzle fest. Is anyone sick of it and wants it out of future-generation Pokémon games? Don't kid me; it becomes even more tedious.
Hell, a tradition I'd like out the window? No more caves.
How about no more Tentacool everywhere!
Hell, what about no more random battles?

The tradition list goes on.
No more First routes full of Rattata, Sentret, Zigzagoon and Bidoof.
Seriously.

But keep caves. And Victory Road.
I find it challenging and good for grinding my levels and catching stronger Poke's before the League.
Personally, I'd prefer some sort of new iteration of the Victory Road.
Like an array of battles to see if you're worthy of fighting the E4 and the Champion, even after earning all 8 badges.
Sorta like an anime-like Pokemon League before the usual league.

I'd like to see some more STORY.
Something that spans the entire game. AFTER the league too.
Seriously. I want a Pokemon game the likes of HG/SS with two or three regions and a story that spans from the first region to the last one.

Less emphasis on Legendaries, less Legendaries.
Seriously. Two Legendaries per Generation would cancel out the effect of having GOD-Arceus-like Pokemon and ruining future generations mythology.
Two legendaries, each to their respective game, but both capturable at different times in opposing games, like HG/SS.

And some convincing side-stories.
Something that leads you from one region to the other, besides the main story.
Like a robbed Pokemon by an old rival, or something along the likes of that.

Oh yeah. Zubat X Infinite really has to be stopped. Seriously.
