A simple, yet curious question I had. I went to go see How to Train Your Dragon and instantly I fell in love with the score. The composer, John Powell, did a marvelous job at capturing the emotion in every song included in the score. I waited for the credits to roll to the end with my friends and one of them turns to me and says "Oh look, it's available for purchase." First thing I did when I finally got the chance was bought this baby on iTunes.

So do you listen to movie scores? Do you perhaps buy them if they really make an impact on you in some way? Or could you really not be bothered by them?

Note I said scores. Not soundtracks. Learn the difference from what I mean if you don't understand.

I do listen to film scores. They make the movie more epic. In Avatar, when the Navi were about to fight the RDA (that evil army), I didn't feel the epicness, but when I heard the background music, it just turned EPIC.

I paticularily like the music composed by John Williams, he's written the scores for big films such as Star Wars, Superman, Harry Potter and more. He's world renound for his ability to compose a piece that once heard, familiarises the listener with the film almost instantly as he's extremely good at writing something both dramatic and at the same time you could find yourself whistling the tune. To answer the question posed however, I do listen to scores written for film, as well as music composed for theatre.
Another notable composer in which I had noticed recently was James Horner who wrote the score for the oscar winning film Avatar which included an oscar for best score.
I happen to notice that Disney tend to write brilliantly when it comes to composing a score also, the music tends to be fantastic but somewhat underrated in my opinion.

Not anymore. These days I usually end up loving the movies that everyone claims to suck.

As Abnegation said, John Williams has composed a lot of very famous film scores, including scores for nearly all of Steven Spielberg's films (and I don't know anyone who hasn't seen any of his films), I'm sure most people can enjoy his music. I particularly like his score for Schindler's List, it's a wonderful (albeit saddening) film and the score plays no small part in setting the mood and making the film as great as it is.
I also enjoy Hans Zimmer's film scores, The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean and Gladiator are just a few of the famous films he's composed the score for. My favourite scores by Hans Zimmer are for The Ring and The Dark Knight.

I happen to notice that Disney tend to write brilliantly when it comes to composing a score also.
I'm not sure what you mean by this. True, Disney films usually have enjoyable scores, but they still get professional composers for their film scores. As I said before, Hans Zimmer composed for The Lion King and James Newton Howard composed the score for my favourite Disney film, Treasure Planet. The actual Disney company aren't composers.

Although all movie scores play a pivotal role in overall viewing of the film for me, Hans Zimmer is a stand out in this category. Kingdom of Heaven, Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, Batman Begins, and The Village are my favourites of all time. James Newton Howard worked alongside Zimmer in Batman Begins, and alone in The Village.

I gotta say Howard Shore and Hans Zimmer. Anything they do is amazing. I absolutely love the Lord of the Rings soundtrack, and some of the songs are still emotionally strong for me.

Zimmer is pretty amazing. Madagascar's theme keeps sending shivers down my spine. ^^

Alan Silvestri gets a star in my book for Forrest Gump. The whole thing was brilliant.
Everything ends,
and that's always sad.
But everything begins again, too,
and that's always happy.
