I didn't see a thread for this series, so I decided to make one. If there is one, I'm terribly sorry. :<

Anyway.
This is a game...you'll either hate and end up throwing at a wall, or obsessing over and wasting hundreds of hours of your life on it.
I happen to fall in the second category. XD; Does anyone else play this game? Thanks to a small group of crazed fans at my school, I was convinced to buy Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, and, well...I've been spending a lot more time with those people geeking about it. It's amazing the looks you get in the halls at school when enthusiastically discussing your adventures slaying a Rathalos or Tigrex.

I'm currently Hunter Rank 3 with roughly 46 hours of gameplay. :]

Any other hunters out there?

I played the original PS2 version, and I have MH:Freedom Unite on the PSP which I used to play it all the time untill my memory stick somehow switched formats and I was forced to get a new one and couldn't be bothered to start again.

But I am really looking forward to Monster Hunter Tri, I have heard many good things about the new version, and it'll be nice to have a reason to turn on my Wii.

Yes exactly what happened...I got some armor that made me look like a Metabee from Metabots and I got killed by some stupid creatures, threw the Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and my PSP at the wall...broke my PSP and the game...my adventure ended their...If I get a new Wii I'll pick up Tri if its any good...

I've been playing monster hunter since the freedom games on psp came out and i've been wondering if it'll be the same with the new Wii version, the graphics will probably be a bit better but the Wiimote and nunchuck are definitely not a good idea for monster hunting :cer_no: .
I've decided i'll preorder it with the Classic controller pro instead of struggling along with a wiimote but the Pro doesn't seem to be as good as the psp controls were :cer_frown: . The Psp controls were good because they were easy to use and cleverly designed so you could do multiple things at once like where the D-pad was directly above the analog stick it was great for running like hell and changing the camera so you could see the gigantic fire breathing wyvern that was chasing you :cer_laugh: but even the controller pro's d-pad isn't directly above the analog stick but hopefully it's close enough to do the job.

I'm a bit interested in the fact that the trailer opens with a load of skiffs and a boat sailing across sand and that you're in a desert zone village. I hope like hell that they kept the Forest and hills from MHF1,2&U because that area was really, really awesome! :cer_nod:
It seems a bit exciting and the guildhall seems to have been upgraded a lot and i've been saying to my friends for years that monster hunter should be online and now it is!

Has anyone else looked at getting this game? With the classic controller pro or the special edition in the chest thing. :cer_tongue:

I want to play Monster Hunter Tri, but I'm totally new to the series. What exactly do you DO?
From what I've seen, it's basically a hack'n'slash where you fight what are essentially dinosaurs. someone's probably gonna tear me a new one for describing it as a hack'n'slash

It seems like an interesting series, but I've only ever watched my friend play the Wii demo and the PSP version.

Basically you start as a new hunter for your village, you start out with basic weapons, and clothing, you get missions from people in your village, you start with collection mission to begin with, and as you progress you get asked to hunt some small monsters, which once you kill you can carve up to gain items to create bigger and better equipment, and as you complete more missions you get to fight bigger Monsters who give you better items to create better weapons, with this third one you get to play online in groups of three.

But it's not a simple game, you cannot rush in and just attack, attack, attack, your main goal when fighting the large Monsters is to not get hit and wait till an opening to get a quick hit in, and to learn the moves of the Monsters, it is a very hard, but very rewarding game, and by far one of the best ever made.

It's more like a free MMO due to the playstyle, and it is nothing like a Hack'n'Slash and trying to play it like one will get you killed, FAST, don't worry though I'm not tearing you down, I originally though it was like that to begin with too.
