But luckily the fandom did not get a bootleg until yesterday

Anyways for some of us who waited 4 years on this and actually wasted their time reading the novel version...it's worth the wait? XD

You mean someone actually decided to sub that camrip? waiting for teh DVD version personally (With Nanoha 1st, FS/N and Eden 2)

Also, i'm pretty sure the English community has dubbed it disappearance of Haruhi over Vanishment

Uh, Mazui subbed it about a week ago; I know because I watched it as soon as they did. Don't know where you're getting your information.

And yes, it's definitely worth it. I read the novelization, but the movie manages to be better. It's one of the greatest movies I've seen in a long time.

@Digi: Mazui cleaned up the camrip before subbing it; with the exception of the first half hour or so, it's very much watchable.
VNs are superior to anime, don't @ me

That's quite insulting. I had you know the novel was much, much better...

Is what I'd like to say but KyoAni did it perfectly, except for some boring Kyon monologues where I thought I was playing a story-RPG like Time Hollow. If they did that in the first place with the Sigh, there wouldn't be a recurring joke in animes about the endless eight. Instead of the famous quote "Aliens, time travellers, sliders and espers, please come join me" the quote they now reference for Haruhi is "It seems like we're on an endless cycle of loop."

I don't think that reading the novel was a waste, the novel actually covers more than the movie itself with Asahina punching Kyon in the stomach rather than the face (and it being more painful) and more cover of Yuki and Kyon moment on the Literature clubroom.

Also, just a factoid: Yen Press is releasing the Disappearance Novel in November and the Boredom in June/July. (With Bungaku Shoujo :D)

After careful consideration, it was the best thing ever 2010 has offered so far(not a lot). Also Mazui's cam rip version isn't that bad, it's a bit blurry in the intro but the rest is fine, it's still better quality than some of the videos on dailymotion.

Jeez Angelo. Reading is srz bzzness?

Well, I didn't mean it as an insult if it appeared that way, I apologize. ;/

Anyways this movie has certainly made my year of Fanboyism. Seriously I almost cried as Kyon contemplated the meaning of that person's actions. ;D;

As of yesterday, Bandai Entertainment has the license to the movie. Now, why won't they release it on Blu-Ray here in North America, like what Funimation did with the Rebuild of Evangelion films?

Bandai Entertainment Adds The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

Subbed screenings in San Francisco in May, theatrical run in Hawaii in June

The North American anime distributor Bandai Entertainment has announced that it has licensed The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya anime film from Kadokawa Pictures Inc. It will begin running English-subtitled screenings of the film at San Francisco's Viz Cinema on May 21, followed by a theatrical run in Hawaii in the middle of June. Bang Zoom! Entertainment is co-producing the English-language adaptation, and a DVD release will ship at a date to be announced later.

The first ever movie in the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise adapts the fourth volume from Nagaru Tanigawa and Noizi Ito's original light novel series about an eccentric, assertive girl who creates her own school club for her strange antics. The movie opened at the Japanese box office on February 6, and it earned the equivalent of US$7,479,561 after eight weekends at the end of March.

Little, Brown Young Readers is publishing the third Haruhi Suzumiya light novel volume in North America this July. Bandai Entertainment released the initial run of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya television anime series in North America, and it will also release the second season DVDs. Crunchyroll is streaming the first season now, and plans to stream the second season later this year.

Yen Press is publishing both Gaku Tsugano's main manga adaptation and Puyo's The Melancholy of Suzumiya-Haruhi-Chan (Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yūutsu) "official gag manga." Kadokawa Shoten Publishing even released an iPhone and iPod touch app based upon The Day of Sagittarius III game depicted within the light novels and anime.

Update: More background information added.

They aren't gonna release it in the US on Blu-Ray? :/ That'd be the only way I'd buy it. I'm surprised. (Maybe they're trying to milk money from the Japanese by only releasing it in DVD there for now, meaning FUNI didn't have access to the hi-def animation yet? idk.) I dunno.

I have the camrip downloaded but I haven't watched it yet. :s I dunno if I wanna watch it now or wait for the DVD rips.

I think you misinterpreted what I wrote, Erica. As far as I know, Funimation will still be releasing the Rebuild of Evangelion films on Blu-Ray in the States and Canada. It's Bandai and Disappearance that you and I should be worried about.

As for a fansubbed version, I'll just wait for the DVD rips.

I was talking about Haruhi though, not Eva. :( I see no reason for them not to release it on Blu-Ray unless they don't have access to the high-definition version to put on Blu-Ray. I mean, if it were some new anime they were taking a risk on, okay, no Blu-Ray discs... but Haruhi? @[email protected]
