Theres not much more it can be if it's a spin-off, just had Pokepark AND Rumble Blast, recently had a Ranger the only possibility is Mystery Dungeon, other than that it's a main.

It could always be pokemon dash 2!

Just kidding, the only spin off I would be happy with would be a 3DS pokemon snap game. Even then, I'd prefer a main game.

RS remakes will definately come out though, it's a matter of when rather than if. I just hope its sooner rather than later, but I have the feeling that Grey will be released first, as it will probably have changes that won't be compatible with Black and White (e.g. new pokemon forms) that they'll probably want to make compatible with the remakes.

I'd hope so as well, especially as Nintendo have said they are allowing companies to update their games over the eshop on the 3DS.

The problem with that though is that either the R/S remakes will be on the 3DS with the same game engine as B/W, and then the same with Grey, or they will have designed a new engine for the remakes and Grey will use that.

Neither of these things make much sense, as either a generation will be split into two engines, or they will keep the same engine but then (assuming they come out on the 3DS) the 3DS games will have been basically designed for the DS, with a few tweaks.

I wouldn't mind either, but I can see them going with the second option (the first seems too much effort for one generation), which could harm the reception and sales of the games.

The problem is that gamefreak have a valid reason for the dilemma they're in; I bet by the time they found out that the 3DS existed they were too far through black and white to change anything without basically starting from scratch and making us wait an extra few years for new games.

Personally I doubt there'll ever be a Yellow remake.

Even if they decide to remake Kanto again, they'll split it into two games to increase their sales. And I really don't expect another Kanto remake any time soon, we had the original remakes and we could visit it again in the Johto remakes.

If they redid R/B/Y again next then the number of times we've seen Kanto in different games would be 12. The number of times we've seen every other region put together is 13. It would almost outnumber the number of other regions put together, it seems a little over the top.

RS needs a remake. I predict a Yellow remake though. RS was interesting in cities and all. Imagine what they can do after BW.
I don't really foresee any Third Game remakes in the near future. Not to mention as has been said many times over Kanto has been revisted many times over. I don't think it's really necessary to go back to Kanto ago. And if they were going to do Yellow, I'd think they would be hyping it in the anime, or it would be near the end so Ash could revisit Kanto again.

They might as well just make them DS games(in the situation you brought up) because they would have to have a bit more than 'a few tweaks' to reach 3DS standards from DS. That could be seen as too much also when they probably would want to just stick to one handheld, as these are the core games we are talking about.

I know it was said that they don't want to forget the DS just yet, yet also want to show off what they can do on the 3DS(I think that was just the games in general, so doesn't have to belong to a specific group), but what's odd is how they'd pull something like that off without ruining the other system, if they meant that for a game, a core one at that. Like above, with only a few tweaks to the 3DS version, they might as well just market it as a DS game because a 3DS can do far more and that would pretty much handicap the that version, not to mention that it would sell more on the DS due to how much more people have it over a 3DS(would that be worth the effort of adding in enough to make it feel like a 3DS game as well?). A few tweaks isn't going to cut it, imo, as a 3DS is more than just the 'popping out' effects.

My guess is that they'll have wanted to move asap(due to them being too far in BW) to the new handheld...and just think how much of an improvement Gray and RS remakes could be; More people would want to buy Gray, even if they have BW, because it'll be more than 'a few tweaks' and would kind of feel like a new game. As for the RS remakes, does there need to be an explanation? Imo, they DESERVE to be on the 3DS.

However, Gamefreak can do whatever they want, I would just hope that they make the right decision regardless.

You're right, there would be a bad reception if they just tweaked the game engine for any 3DS version, and rightly so. And they probably wouldn't bring anything else out on the DS as it wouldn't be supporting Nintendo's current handheld.

The thing I wonder about though, is that if they start from scratch on Grey and the R/S remakes then they will feel like totally new games (which is good!) but not part of gen V.

And what will they do when they get to gen VI? Keep the game engine from Grey? They couldn't do that, they'd have to start again, but that would mean almost doubling gen V's workload (as I'm sure the game engine takes up most of the work minus Pokemon design) for half the games in the generation. Which could mean longer gaps between releases than we've had in the past.

That's the tricky thing right now, can't really be too sure of how they'd finish off this Gen. I actually think something like in this video is an interesting idea of a little jump(of course with some tidying up to give it a newer feel and to make it feel like an actual improvement):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJWw4pXySIs&feature=related

In all honesty though, I still think that would feel more like a DS game....and I'm sure they would want to get to the 3DS as soon as they can. Not entirely sure on how they could give it a 3DS game feel in Gen V without making it likely that Gen VI could be really similiar(unless of course a new handheld is out by that time, although looks unlikely at this point.)

If a core game is to come out in Fall '12(assuming that this Spring is yet another Spin off), it would also be likely on the 3DS, as it would be the 2 year anniversary of BW in Japan(wow time flies by quickly), like how DP came out 2 years after the launch of the DS.

I guess we just have to wait to see how they handle things...although it is a little frustrating not knowing a thing at this point.

The one soundtrack I want to hear remade is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRdlNDSCW0Q

I loved that one and the Trick House itself, like I say I'm positive of a RS remake just a matter of when, 2012/13.

That video looks good, I wouldn't mind that sort of camera angle for the next game. (Cleaned up a bit of course.)

If I had to guess, I'd say that Japan will get either Grey or the remakes around September 2012, and then the other a year later in September 2013, giving this generation a 4 year lifespan.
That means we probably won't find out anything about either until around late spring/summer 2012...It just seems so far away!

That matches the pattern of the previous games, but you never know, it could take longer if they are having to redo stuff for the 3DS.

And to be honest, although I really enjoy speculating about what the next games will look like, I just have no idea, thanks to the generation beginning at the end of the DS's lifespan. Gamefreak could do anything!

One thing I am certain of though is that the next core game will be on the 3DS. It seems strange that a generation could span more than one console, but it wouldn't make sense for it to come out on the DS, it would undermine the work Nintendo's doing to try and sell the 3DS.

I think The rest of Gen V will probably be on DS, because it's too hard for them to rewrite the engine for Black and White to support 3D.
I very much doubt Nintendo would have made it difficult for developers to adapt their games to working with stereoscopic 3D rendering. This is why they provide information on the hardware and Software Development Kits to developers. There will be code libraries designed for developers to easily implement 3D into their existing programs.

Besides, what developer could spend two years of work and not managed to convert their basic framework to the new system? Several early 3DS titles were quickly reprogrammed DS games that suffered no major problems, while two big-name releases are converted Nintendo 64 titles.

(Another point is that we already have a great graphics engine for rendering Pokémon on the 3DS - Creatures made it for Pokédex 3D)

Pokedex 3D style graphics would be amazing, but I don't think we'll see them until gen VI at the earliest.
We can always hope though!

So it would make more sense for them to ignore the work that's already been made since June at the least?

I don't see why Creatures would have gone to the trouble of making much better quality models than usual (The graphics in Pokédex 3D are a lot better than the Wii Pokémon games in more ways than one) and programming a new engine just to release a free downloadable app. It does AR Marker support for Pokémon graphics, implements SpotPass, local 3DS connectivity, it even implements most of the Pokémon data structure already. My gut says it's a public engine test of various 3DS functions instead for later projects.

Yeah, it'd be a little odd if they released the Pokedex this early if they only planned to start it in Gen VI, which is a few years off at the least.

Don't get me wrong, it'd be great if they did use them. I just wonder whether they'll use them for Grey; as the third game is like a directors cut, rather than something completely different.
If they did use them it'd be all the more reason to buy Grey though. :)

How would I get you wrong? I just meant that there's a good chance that they'd use them sometime this Gen on the 3DS, rather than waiting all the way until Gen VI. If they weren't going to use them until then, why would they release it this early?

So it seems that we have to wait until 11-13 December for the announcement of this new game, that's if it's going to be revealed in Corocoro, who knows, maybe we'll get information before.

I prefer Juan for the last gym, and make Wallace the champion in the after game.
Also make Regigigas accessible after you get the three regis.
