V Homunculi in the 2003 series V
Spoiler:
I believe that in the 2003 series homunculus are created when a failed attempt at human transmutation takes place. If the freaky body is fed Philo-Stone (which is harder to make in the 2003 series for some reason, and is used up faster), it will turn into a homunculus.

For instance, Ed and Al's mother, Izumi's late child and Scar's brother's fiancé are turned into homunculi (Sloth, Wrath and Lust respectively). But as they're not the actual individuals, they only have fragments of the memories, and want to become humans (in contrary to FMAB, where only Envy wants to become human).
They also become weaker when coming in contact with parts of the body of whom their born for some reason, which is their only weakness in the 2003 series.

But the 'getting weak when in the vicinity of their body' thing applies to every homunculus and not just Lust, Sloth and Wrath, yes?

Well yeah, for instance Greed died that way in the old show.

But as you don't learn their past in the 2003 anime, I didn't bring those up.

Yeah, I guess you were just trying to be precise. :3

I just saw the sixth episode today. Brotherhood tends to rush a little when compared to the original one. For example, Ed and Al spent a lot of time with Nina and were even present at the time of Hughes's daughter but nothing like that happened in Brotherhood.

Sorry if that didn't make much sense. I'm sleepy and drowsy. ;;

Yeah, they sure were.

They showed months of their training over several episode where the original story only covered it in a couple of minutes xD
I mean, Hughes dies at episode 24 I think :P

Also, the Nina story is bigger in the 2003 series, and Tucker survives through the whole story as a Chimera expert for the Homunculi. (he's turned into a chimera himself :|.. And he wants the Philo-stone to create a duplicate of his late daughter. He's really freaky in the old show :<)

Hughes death is cooler in the 2003 series :3

he actually manages to cut off Envy's throat.. but well, he regenerates :|

Also, I like the fillers they had in the beginning of 2003, like the train incident, and that they showed when Ed saved the mining village :P

I agree, they tended to rush things in the beginning of the Brotherhood anime. But, they still did it well.

Poor Hughes :/

They did a great job on his character, and killing him off was the last finishing part that made it perfect.. but sad.

When his daughter cried I almost did D:
In the 2003 anime, at the funeral when she kept asking her mom why they were burying her dad, that was sad :/

I didn't really cry, actually. I don't think I will while watching the 2003 anime either. But you know, I'd feel really bad once I watch Nina die. She has such an 'innocent' voice. In the jap dubs, I mean. Her voice..it makes me feel really sad that she dies. ;;

Hughes' death will be sad. Nina's death wouldn't be any less sad, though. At least for me.

Both deaths are sad.

I didn't cry thou, I mean, I'm the kinda guy who cries when I've finished reading Love Hina in a couple of days (I think I died that day), and when Yui in AB" dies.. but Hughes and Nina was just sad :|
