This question has probably been asked a MILLION times. But I've never gotten to experience a discussion on it. So, could you tell me:

Just what exactly is it about pokemon that draws you in?

I have to admit, I like it because it's cute. xD How many of you are the same way? When I first found out about pokemon I was hooked. I really loved the anime and the early movies. I thought the whole thing was just so much FUN! And whenever I re-watch the first season or the movies I feel the same way again. I also roleplay on a few PKMN rp sites. Fun, fun, fun!

But I don't own any of the cards anymore and I quit watching the show after May showed up. Man, that show got so off-track after the Pokemon League when it could've been a great story! >( lol, oh well.

Your experience?

Well, in my opinion, back in 2004 anyway, Pokemon brought a huge change to the world of gaming. It was just so easy to play, all at the palm of your hands. Also, the concept was pretty unique and I fell in love with it straight away.. XD;

The game I liked it ever since R/B/Y and couldn't let it go as the newer games came out i had my relatives to play and compete with for along time
D/P showed me a even deeper side to the game making me completely obsessed, introducing me to new people, communities, heck even new ideas

but the wide community is probably the most of what drags me into the game :)

first got into it because of the anime and now love the games! Why I like it? well I guess... it's just fun. There's so many different pokemon designs, types etc. Wether you just want a simple game, or maybe build a competitive team and wi-fi, they're great! It's different from other games.

Well for me its the fact that its a whole different world in the palm of your hand, how is it possible not to want that?

Actually, I've never taken part in one of these discussions before (...I think). I've never really thought about why I like playing Pokémon, I just know that they're my game of choice whenever I'm bored, and that Platinum is my favourite of the moment. o.0

*sits and has a think*

● The first RPG I ever played, which cemented my love for the genre.
● Even though some argue that Pokémon promotes violence against animals, if you pay attention to what the Professors say it's always encouraging people and animals to work together. That's a good message to promote to children.
● Even though I feel the storyline is getting a bit samey now and I hope it changes in BW, it's nice enough to play through still. This is my sixth run-through of Platinum, and I'm not bored yet. :3
● The games have great replay value, as you can try completing them with a variety of teams. One of these days, I will play through Platinum with a Glameow, damnit.
● The new Wi-Fi ability with the GPS and being able to trade with people all over the world kept the games fresh when they were beginning to go stale.
I'm still holding out for an RSE remake ;_;.

How's your thirst for adventure, Captain?

Hmmm...this is actually a very philosophical question...

(nice theme btw Moriarty)

Well, I got the cards, saw a couple of anime episodes, then got Emerald.

-Because it's cute, I guess. Why I still like Pikachus, just not the one in the anime.
-Because, depending on what you do in association to it, it's either childish or quite serious (anime vs. PokeSpec).
-Because I can play it repeatedly.
-Because I just can't get into other games on GBA/DS the same as pokemon.
-Because when everything's really naff in real life, you can go hide inside a little sprite on a screen and raise some friends until eventually you ending up defeating an adult in an epic battle.
-Because I wanna go sort out bad guys. Seriously.

I've always loved the idea of raising your own little creatures if that's what you want to call it. :3 Way back in 1997 (I think), was when I first found out about PKMN from my mum, she said there was a program on TV I might wanna watch. And that's what started it all for me. Then in 2006, I got my first PKMN game which was Colloseum while out on a school trip (No, I wasn't embarrased that my friends saw me buying a PKMN game). Then I bought many more games after that and have been hooked since. :3

It's actually quite interesting.
I just like it because it appeals to me, most things in the Pokemon world make me happy, it is entertaining, it creates link in my mind with the whole thing, and it just touches me for what it is from deep within.
Everything about it is just fun, and in reality when you like something like this, you just like it from deep within.
No special reasons are needed to back it up, and that's the case for me.

But if it was 'how' I got into liking Pokemon, it would be a more detailed and explained discussion.

I caught the first series of the Pokémon animé late. One christmas I recall my brother and I getting a copy or red and blue between us, two gameboy colours, and a trading cable. It was all down hill from there for me!

I just like how "happy" and carefree everything in it is. Though I stopped watching the animé after a brief touch into Jhoto it wasn't because I stopped enjoying it. Same when I stopped playing the games after Sapphire for a while. I was just thought it was getting a bit beyond me. And I did make an attempt to "grow up" around that time. But ultimately here I am back again entering the world of Pokémon!

....I just wish I could have cut off school and gone on a Pokémon adventure around the world.... Bah!

I like it because it's childish in nature, yet it's extremly complex at the same time. And just the series as a whole. Creating a pokedex full of monsters that you encounter on your journeys. It just hasn't been done before. I also love actually caring for pokemon because it gives me a sense of a pet. Without having to do all the pet related things (feeding, cleaning up after it etc.)

And I also care for my pidgeot as if it's real. Its kinda scary.

Because it is fun, and therefore makes me happy.

[/thread]

But I mean, even the shows and movies are like that. Even though I keep thinking some parts are lame, that changes when I hear some joke that only some people would get.

It's kind of a loyal thing. I still like Pokemon not as much as back then. It was a hobby of mine to play the Pokemon games, collect the cards and watch the anime. At this time I really had fun. Now right now, everytime I'm bored or have nothing to do, I can still revert back to Pokemon and still have as much fun as I did back then.

Well it began when I was a bright-eyed tyke at the wee age of 7 years old when I saw my friend at school playing the game. I knew I had to get it. I finally got Blue Version for my birthday and played it frantically on my father's hand-me-down Game Boy. I believe I chose Bulbasaur as my first starter ever. Oh, and you wouldn't believe my excitement when he first evolved into an Ivysaur. From there, I've been a fan ever since.

Even in high school, though I was ridiculed by those not keen on the franchise, I played the games when I had free time in class or on the bus to and from school or football games or band competitions (I was a band nerd). Among other games like Fire Emblem and such, of course. I even made friendships that still hold true today because someone saw me playing one of the games.

It's the addictive nature of capturing new monsters and seeing what they can do, hand selecting my battle team out of over a hundred (and now hundreds) of creatures, and the sense of accomplishment of overcoming every milestone in your journey such as gyms and the elite four that draws me to the games.

Well, for starters... I hated Pokemon. A Hardcore hatred. But that was so long in the past. That was a long, long, long, long time ago.

I have a whole different view on it now. In fact, I'm in love with Pokemon, haha! I started watching again until the anime had me hooked. The plotlines were just too exciting and I admired it more and more.

And there came shippings.

Believe me, I've been breathing Pokemon now and then. Haha!
