Gen 1:5 legends,a few

Gen 2:6 legends, pretty much the same

Gen 3:10 legends a couple more

Gen 4:15!Too many

thats just my oppinion

I just think that more legends really isn't a problem, at least in the gaming world, because most of them aren't uber anyway. Some people might find this a problem, but I think that it means that the game designers are using their creativity to show what they consider to be different and special Pokemon.

Yep, hopefully we only have about 6 or 7 in black and white. Zekrom and Reshiram, the 3rd legendary that's usual, then the trio and maybe another legendary that's even harder to get than the others.

At first I was soo happy that DPPt had so many legendaries..then it just lost the hype after catching about 6 of 'em.

I'm pretty sure DPPt had only 14 legendaries, but whatever.

Darkrai, shaymin, arceus, manaphy and phione aren't even available normally, as well as Palkia and Dialga if you have Diamond or Pearl.
Heatran, Regigigas, Cresselia, and Palkia & Dialga in Platinum aren't available until after beating the Elite 4 IIRC.

How is too many legendaries a logical complaint? It isn't like you're given a legendary pokemon at the beginning of the game :/

I only really dislike the fact that (in Gen 4 especially) half the Legendaries don't even do anything. Sure, they have little stories behind them and special little locations you go to so you can catch them, but really, what relevance does Heatran have? Or Manaphy, or Cresselia? Of course the trio and box-art-legendaries and all are necessary, but after that it just seems like the rest were... filler. Just sort of there to make the game seem cooler or something. ... And no, having to go on a bunch of short side-quests to catch weaker Legendaries doesn't make the game much longer or more enjoyable. They could have done better than that if that's what they were going for. x3;

So yeah. Fourteen legendaries is fine so long as they're all actually relevant and needed. I mean. They're the world's equivalent of gods; each one needs a real point to it.

There are just too many legendaries now; they're losing their specialness.

75% of Pokemon trainers use cheats and specially made codes to make their Pokemon battle-worthy. If you are one of the 25% who play with fairly trained Pokemon, put this in your signature.

Each Heatran is guardian of its volcano and decides whether it erupts or not.

Darkrai is sort of like the 'evil' legendary. Ruler of nightmares.

Cresselia wakes up people from Darkrai's nightmares and is generally the opposite side of Darkrai, keeping it in check, trying to stop it from taking over the world. So if Darkrai has a use, Cresselia sort of does too.

Like in MD2.

Manaphy doesn't seem to have any special abilities other than being super rare and powerful so that its egg can become a plot device in pretty much every Pokémon canon in existence.

Regigigas is the guardian of the legendary golems and fits in with their legends including being mentioned in RSE.

Shaymin makes the world's soil fertile and generally guards the plant life of the Pokémon world.

And then, unless I've forgotten someone, all the rest fit into the Sinnoh myths. These are pretty equatable to deities from real world mythologies and religions. Really this generation is when they started to get uses. If you're looking for legendaries that sort of just 'are', look in the previous generations.

I agree. There are/where multiple of ALL Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon*Mewtwo excluded* that were just incredibly rare, and the locals passed down stories about them. Thing is, it fit in with those generations, because none of them were actually apart of the plot....they were just more tools of war for you to use in battle that happened to be powerful.

The same could be said about the non-plot important ones of the newer gens, although I do agree with the notion that they should cut back the amount added to each generation, because there's already 30ish out of 500ish total pokemon. How many more until it becomes a bit unbearable searching for 50 "super rare" pokemon when you take on the role of a ten year old kid?
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Hopefully in Black and White you can catch all the Legendaries without going to events. In-game events, maybe, like after beating the Elite 4, or completing the Pokédex (not the National Dex)

I dislike the trend of having so many legendaries. I accidentally stumbled upon Giratina in Diamond. I think when you can accidentally find legendaries, it's a good indication that there's too many and the creativity involved is... urgh. D: I mean, I guess you accidentally stumble upon the birds in RBY but since then, every Legendary has (mostly) been presented with a story. ._.; When they start trending away from that, it's when it just seems unnecessary to me.

I hope they cut down on the legendaries for gen 5.

Are they even "Legendary" anymore? A Legendary is a one-of-a-kind, powerful, and symbolically important Pokemon.

Now look at these facts:

My Arbok of equal level can defeat half of the Gen IV "Legendaries" by himself. Those fail to live up to the Power that legendaries should have.

In Gen I, you can only get one Lapras, Aerodactyl, or Kabuto/Omanyte. And two Snorlaxes. These Pokemon are just as rare as the Legendaries.

All this leaves us with is symbolism. I'm sure one can find symbolism in many non-legendaries.

The version mascots can be considered legendary, as well as the Lake Trio. One might vouch for Arceus, because he is basically God/Buddha/Mako or whichever deity you want to call it. Plus he's popular. Apparently that holds great weight. The rest may as well be called Rare Pokemon.

Legendaries you accidently stumble upon:

RGBY: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres (3/5)
GS: Lugia, Entei, Suicune, Raikou (4/6); Crystal is the same minus Suicune (3/6)
RS: Rayquaza, Lati (2/8); Emerald loses Rayquaza (1/9)
DP: Giratina, Heatran, Phione (3/12); Platinum minuses Giratina and Heatran (1/13)

It seems to reduce with the more legendaries there are.

@Godzil: Half of those weak legendaries are in the first two generations. There have always been multiple tiers of strength among the legendaries.

I did too!

Anyway, I don't mind the amount but the lack of story/purpose is what I don't like. They really should have saved some for another Gen. Also, Phione is POINTLESS!

@Timbjerr: Ah, touche! However, going by SoulSilver at least, even Legendaries are lacking in EXP gain. I recieved 2200 EXP from a Lvl 70 Mewtwo. A trainer's Lvl 53 Dewgong gave me 2359 EXP. I wept for poor Mewtwo.

@Myles: Yes, there are tiers of strength. But why so many to fill the tiers? If there are 15 legendaries but 10* of them can be easily defeated, and capturing them is more of a bragging rights reward, why should we bother? Especially if we can trade for the ones we were too lazy or malicious to capture, instead stoving their heads in for the XP?

*Rough estimate, not bothering to judge power levels

Yeah.

I think they coulda saved Cresselia and Darkrai for White/Black...

however, at least they have a storyline. Heatran, Shaymin,Manaphy, Phione.....although I love the latter two, just no.

I don't count them as legendaries, although they are strong.

To tell the truth, the only legendaries that dissappoint me are in Gen IV and V xD.

Oh, and to add to Myles' post further up....you "accidentally stumble upon" Regirock, Regice and Registeel in RSE! And how comes in GSC you "accidentally stumble upon" Lugia, but no Ho-oh? They're both version mascots...ffs....

You can't "accidentally stumble upon" the Regis as you have to do the Braille quest to unlock their caves. Yeah, you stumble upon Ho-Oh in Gold, Myles must've missed that.
