Anyone else think this could work?

I think it would be great for there to be a twist in the storyline where the protagonist decides to join the evil team at a certain point in the game, and then later breaks off from them over a disagreement with the team leader or something. That way you wouldn't be on their side for the entirety of the game, and can still maintain the hero title.

I know a lot of people are going to jump on me and say it's a stupid idea, but if you think about it, it really isn't.

For starters, it's a completely fresh idea and would make for a very interesting and diverse storyline - I for one am getting tired of the same old Cliché'd routine: Battle people; get badges; beat up evil team along the way; catch legendaries; defeat Elite Four; catch final legendary/beat final boss. We need something people aren't going to expect.

And no, being on the evil team doesn't limit you to catching only Zubat's and Rattatas. You could be offered to join the team after the 3rd badge, for example, then work your way up to an evil team executive, and the eventually come into conflict with the team leader once you aquire your 7th or 8th badge, for instance.

I think it could work quite well, providing the storyline behind it is well thought out.

What do you guys think?

Believe me, I want this to happen but...

Since this is Pokemon it's super unlikely we'll get it, pokemon has always strongly encouraged a squeaky clean lifestyle and it's still aimed at kids.

So joining the evil team, even as a spy/undercover agent etc would probably be considered too "bad" for a pokemon game :<

Joining the evil team would be so fun though! AH.
Maybe they could create a team/organization that we THINK is good, and the player joins but you later realize you were tricked into helping them achieve their cliche evil goal lol.
Then you gotta set things right or something, I dunno...

It's just the "aimed at kids" thing, that's what hinders the storyline, I think :C

This idea seems cool but I doubt it will happen.

I think that it would be fun to have the villainous characters in the story/plot line actually be someone close to your character in the game, such as one of the Pokemon professors, or the other gender of playable character....I think that having your mom be the main villain/boss would just be a bit too much....

No, it isn't. At least this time. Remember that GameFreak said the protagonists this time were going to be older. A plot like this looks like a pretty well option this time.

As the OP said, this plot makes a really good option for the game. We, the players, enjoy a not-so-linear plot and the character still is a good person on the end.

Also, remember that GameFreak said something like we should expect surprises and changes(or something to that extent). This could be the perfect opportunity to remake the story.

I'm pretty excited that they said that actually, I still don't expect them to let us join the bad guys, but we're probably going to get a twist plot or something cool.
Then again, we still know nothing about the regional team in BW, so maybe we do get the option to join/help them *u*

I just really wanna wear one of the cool uniforms the evil teams get to wear. Running about Goldenrod as a rocket was way too fun for me.

Well, i don't like be the bad boy of the criminal organization because is plans are always stupid XD.
In the other hand i love to be the rival of the main character, like Silver for a change of all. What if we really don't need to collect badges? Or if we don't need to catch'em all?? I only want to be the best of all the country and beyond so i really want to Kick some ...... and nothing else =D
......Oh we're talking about pokemon, auuu nevermind, this isn't going to happen , never...

You do go undercover in HGSS but Silver uncovers you as you and spoils everything... Maybe the twist can be that the team you think is evil is really good...

Yeah I just... don't think this would work. The closest the series will ever get to having you join the evil team was having you dress up as a TR member in HGSS for all of 5 minutes. :(

Though they've been getting more and more "out there" in recent games, they've also been getting more cult-ish and I can guarantee that the last thing the Pokémon series wants is to be introducing little kids to cultism. The complaints would be endless. And if they aren't a cult, maybe the series will go back to its roots, with the main team being full of... thiefs, Pokémon abusers, and gangsters. Okay, maybe we don't want kids joining that.

:( I can see it as a subplot for infiltration, like HGSS had, but no way they'll let you join the main baddies for good.

Actually, I'd probably welcome this. How about they make it a bit like Resident Evil. I don't mean zombies and Lickers chasing after you, but more in of the fact that the choices you make in game will determine the ending and storyline movement.
VM me if you're up for a battle!

You know as its GF and they are targeting little kids... Now that I think of it if they do this at some point your character will "see the errors of his ways" and take them down from the inside... Espionage style xD

That would be a great idea! But the as stated above the official series will never, ever, EVER do that.

Umm, there was a hack at one point (Rocket Red I believe) where you were a Team Rocket member.
75% of Pokémon gamers use cheats and specially made codes to make their Pokémon battle-worthy. If you are one of the 25% percent that level their Pokémon up legally, put this in your signature.

well, since you say it was an offer, you could refuse and continue on the same old cliche story or join to get the cool little plot twist. it could be kind of a sidequest. I don't see it as being blacklisted by gamefreak since you had to disguise your self as team rocket in hg/ss so long as your mission types don't include hurting people or stealing pokemon/money
I dont ev train and i dont breed to perfection. but i don't get all sentimentally attached like that one signature chain says. i just catch, kill stuff, get badges, become champion. NO HAXORZ ALLOWED.

I'd really love this to happen, but, to be honest, I doubt it will.
After getting out the game corner, I doubt Gamefreak will ever add sth. "evil" and "toxic" for the "children" playing the game.
Well, okay. I'm here just to chat with people. Don't really care about signatures and stuff.

That actually sounds like a great idea. Although, because it's GameFreak, I doubt they will. Although, I don't see why they can't do this.

TeamA are the good guys.
And they are fighting TeamB, who are the bad guys.
You join TeamA to stop TeamB for some reason.
Turns out TeamA are the bad guys, using their GoodGuy disguise to make it easier.
You battle some TeamA grunts and run away.
You then join TeamB and save the world... Or something...

I don't see why that couldn't happen. That could make for an interesting plot twist that I would love to see...

Woot! :D
