If it isn't in this game, I'm going to burn all of my games.

Seriously, this should have been implemented in RBGY, and at the latest GSC. But it's already 5th gen and they still haven't done it. Of course, I speak of the rewarding of EXP for catching a Pokemon.

I don't think you should get the same amount of EXP you get for fainting the Pokemon that you get for catching it, but it should at least be a fraction (2/3 of the EXP?) It'd really encourage people to literally "Catch 'em All" and you'll be hitting 2 birds with 1 stone while trying to fill up your Pokedex.

Dunno, just my idea. I've always thought it should have been implemented. Let me know what you guys think.

Seems rather pointless to do

Really, you beat a lot more Pokemon than you catch, so in the long run it doesn't really make a difference (especially if it's reduced experience). Also, it could get annoying if you were in the middle of EV training and then a rare Pokemon or shiny appeared that you don't want to run from, but catching it would give the wrong EVs.

Edit: ninja'd.

Yeah, really, what are you so worried about? Just go KO the next Pokemon that comes up, it really doesn't take long. =|

if anything, the only way this would work would be a system of EXP-for-damage.
Everything ends,
and that's always sad.
But everything begins again, too,
and that's always happy.

well I don't think its that bad an idea :) I guess its coz I am not an ev training fanatic. coz srsly I cannot be bothered 'catching them all' I just catch what I want and train the ones I have.

EXP was made to show that your pokemon are getting stronger through battling. That is why they level and learn moves, because of their battle experiences. Catching pokemon wouldn't really contribute to making your pokemon a better battler. That is why they don't give you EXP for catching a pokemon.

well you still battle the pokemon to catch it, so your pokemon are still gaining battle experience, we just don't seem to get rewarded for it D:'

How about we just have Trainer Levels and EXP for catching Pokemon depending on the ball and the quality of the Pokemon. (Catching a Legend with a Pokeball at full health and no status would be alot of Trainer EXP) It could give you a better chance at catching a Pokemon if your level is higher. That way you get a feel of you as a new trainer getting better at catching Pokemon.

I... like the idea of Trainer EXP.

But only if it means intense trainer customization, which it wouldn't, so no.

Trainer EXP could result in new:
• Clothing
• Pokéballs available at stores
• Titles (Ryan the Breeder, Ryan the Champion, etc.)
etc.

Probably too complicated for Pokeymans, though.

Is it 12/21/2012 already? Time just flies sometimes... O.o... Regardless Clothing changes would be hard (Sprites would be a pain to edit with all the clothes and it might bug overlapping if they just use naked sprite + clothing sprite over it) Maybe the Trainer LV can also be how others respect you. Titles and Pokeballs for purchase at a certain Lv would be nice too. Maybe exclusive areas for people with higher levels like the Survival Area of Plat, but with Trainer Lvs instead?

I wouldn't mind either way. I can see how it would be nice for Legendaries and whatnot, but otherwise I catch Pokémon so rarely that it wouldn't make much of a difference. :s

Agreed.

That would mean for weaker pokemon, you would buy ultra balls and just go out and catch them by jsut throwing the ball :\

Not to mean that people with loads of masterballs will just exp farm O_O

lol at the end of the world reference. :P

This idea sounds pretty neat to me. I mean, I know in some games when you achieve a Black Trainer Card, Nurse Joy greets you slightly different. Then in RSE the kids in the Pokemon Fanclub start to cheer for you after awhile and finally in DPPt you can enter the Ribbon Society if one of your Pokemon has earned 10 ribbons but that's pretty much for recognition. Mixing trainer EXP and the ideas above could do wonders, I mean Trainer Cards would no longer be based off of specific events in-game events. Instead your Trainer level would decide these things and could also grant you access to places like the Ribbon Society (resort areas and such) as well as gain you fans.

Well at least that's how I took it but I think that'd be pretty awesome.

No, that would make EV training even harder when in the middle of EV training, you spot a Pokémon you really want, try and catch it, and have your EVs ruined, requiring you to waste a berry. Unless, of course, EVs aren't applied. Then I'd be all for the idea!

Maybe the Trainer could have different areas as levels... For example, Catching LV, Battling LV (How well you use tactics), Contest LV, Safari LV... Whatever else... or maybe just a ranking? I never knew Nurse Joy treated you differently if you had a Black trainer card... hmm

i agee with some of you and disagree with oithers, i think you should get half exp for capturing a pokemon, now for the people complaining that they're not getting any battle experiance if you catch, don't you usually have to WEAKEN the pokemon first? that usually means attacking -_- but i think if this did happen that nintendo wouldnt make you gain an EV for capturing one, only for beating it

BETTER IDEA:

Get EXP even if you faint
not as much,like 1/5th
but still i dont get why if you faint you get no EXP, you still partake in the battle, you should get EXP, do you go into a baseball game swing your bat, strike out& fail to get a better? NO. (well most of us do get better)
do you run the mile and get slower? NO, unless you do it nonstop lol
you gain experiance threw life, both failures& victories
they should implement that before EXP for catchin a Pokemon (after all you dont have to fight a pokemon to caught it)

Problems with that whole scenario:
1. The stronger and more rare pokemon are, the harder they are to catch, and in a lot of instances you'd be better just to knock them out for the exp. or catch them if you really want them.
2. Any exp. you would hypothetically get from catching a pokemon would only be a fraction of what you would normally get, so you have to weigh the positives and negatives of doing so.
3. To restate all of the above, you either get a pokemon or recieve exp. You have to choose one. The system would only benefit you minimally anyways.

Exactly - and after all, how many times in the anime does one of Ash's Pokemon get whupped and then come back stronger for the experience?

One thing I'd like would be to get XP from the Battle Tower. I know they're all level capped but it could add to their XP outside of the Battle Tower, but they'd stay at lv50 or 100 in the Battle Tower.

It is rather annoying how the games say that Pokémon get better only from fainting a Pokémon.

Maybe in the future we'll see a damage:exp system instead of the defeat:exp system, it would certainly make things more interesting and levelling more interactive.

Oh sweet god that would be SO easy to abuse.

A bag full of Quick Balls and you have all the EVs you would ever need.
