I'm betting most people are gonna answer for whoever they would want to join.

Anyway, my vote will go for the US Airforce. Air support is a very important aspect of most military superiority. In the current war however, you can't really see that, as the enemy has no aircraft, and the prevention of collateral damage is hugely important now.

And I want to join the AirForce

They're all equally important branches of the military and I support each of them and the men and women in their service.

The Air Force is also the branch responsible for cyberwarfare and intelligence, so it's actually doing a lot more than offering air support. b)'')b (Just in case you needed more of a reason to join.)

In general, the Air Force has the most stringent filtering process -- as in, you have to be good to get into it in the first place. (You've got a general exam plus a lot of physical tests to pass.) So, technically, the best of the best are in the Air Force.

However, if we're asking which one is the most important, that tends to vary by what's needed at the moment. Each of the branches has lent a hand one way or another in the current war. Some more than others. (Looking at you, Marines and Army.)

I'd say the US Navy....why?

Because they were made by a Scottish guy :P

Other than that, I don't have a clue, military stuff isn't something I really keep up with.

Agreed. I respect all the men and woman who volunteer to keep our nation safe, no matter the branch.

The Air force managed to bomb a British convoy in Iraq even after been told twice that said convoy was allies. The trucks had union jacks on the roofs so it's not an easy mistake. This might be an isolated incident however it's still enough to tarnish my opinion of them, you wouldn't get it from the RAF or any of the other NATO air services.

The Marines are well trained and a credit as a lean branch in warfare however they lack proper discipline. Some of the vids coming out of Iraq and Afghan were/are shocking. They shouldn't be treating locals like that. I know again it's not all marines, however it's rarely anyone except American's acting like this. Between the marines and the USAF they managed to kill more British in the first two months in Iraq than the Iraqis did.

The US navy is probably the finest branch of the US military. Disciplined, well trained and ready for combat.

I think with a bit more discipline and a little less of a gun ho attitude that the marines could be the finest fighting force in the western world, however at the moment I;d rank the British, Australian, French, German and Canadian armies higher.

edit: Didn't see the national gaurd bit. I'd say National Gaurd are most important in any country. They're what'll stand between freedom and oppression in our darkest hours.

The marines are the first wave of LIGHT infantry that usually get killed quickly. I think that the National Guard would be my choice if I was forced to go into any branch of service. I might also go to the air force.

Depends on what we are discussing. In terms of defending the country, it is the United States Navy- unless you want to discuss some bullcrud/MW2 way of infiltrating the country, you have to go through the USN. The Air Force and Army are also extremely important in this regard, with the National Guard still in front of the Marines in defense.

If we are discussing an operation that brings our military abroad, you must then ask yourself what sort of operation it is. The Navy is vital in all areas and the Air Force is critical. The Marines and the Army are both suited to do whatever needs to be done- contrary to popular belief, while the Marines do train longer than your average Army grunt, they aren't this elite shock force that compliments the Army. I would also take Rangers over the Marines.

No one single force is more important than the other. However, the Marines are the least useful in defense and the National Guard, while it bolsters the numbers of the Army in the current operations, is the least capable of all the branches. The Army is extremely important as is the Air Force, but the USN is the steel backbone that projects America's military strength abroad while also assuring the defense of the homeland. It is the siren song of other nation's governments if they oppose us- Clinton once said that whenever a Crisis broke out, the first thing asked was, "Where is the nearest carrier?"

The USN is the dagger, sword, shield, bow and arrow, cannon, and armor of the United States.

@ Fox:
The United States has deployed a large magnitude more troops than any other nation has in the ongoing operation in all branches. That makes the likelihood of screwups and mistakes far, far, far higher. If the numbers were reversed, I would say that it is likely you would hear of many British military foul ups. It also doesn't help that this large, massive force is fighting a war it is not trained for- and is more often than not just sitting around.
Remember, it is all about numbers. The United States invaded with 248,000 soldiers and the UK used 48,000- the UK's occupation force was around 10,000 and the United States' hovered anywhere from 85,000 to over 150,000.

I think they all suck compared to North Korea's military branches.

protip: Include other Countries, not just Americant.

On another note, if you have seen the collateral damage video you will probably agree that American branches will shoot anyone in Iraq or other places regardless if they're a civilian or a child.

North Korea.XD That would be a funny sight to behold. Their Navy and Air Force are weak, but their army is somewhat well trained(somewhat) and isn't equipped as poorly as their Navy and Air Force. Of course, we said the same about the Iraqi Military before the Gulf War and, well, the Iraqi Army proved to be a paper sick lion cub.XD

i agree with the equality...Each military branch need support from each other, or they would not be as effective. By working together they can perform much better results. And since the US is an isolated because of the Atlantice ocean the Navy is really important as well

Well as I'm currently in the Navy program, I'd have to say it's the best. I've been it for two years, almost three. You learn a lot of stuff about sea warfare and maritime history. We have never lost a sea battle. I'm not of fan of the army or marines because I don't want to do over a war. I'd rather make a change and live. Marines are of course trained very well because they have to go fight and see some terrible stuff which you can imagine is not a pretty sight. They brainwash you good, also don't call a retired marine an X-Marine! Marines are front liners, though they do have some unique things as well as the air force. Their all nice, it's just what you prefer and what you like, I talked with a recruiter from just about every branch.

Sorry to bore you guys.

Actually, while the USN is a storied branch that has won many overwhelming victories, it has been defeated on a number of occasions in battle.
Doesn't take away from the fact that few navies have achieved what the United States Navy has(especially in the Second World War).
