Ha, weird, pretty sure I saw this thread locked and I couldn't reply to it..

But thanks Kura, I'll keep that in mind. I was thinking about the arm placement too, and I'll definately make a few changes to it.

It was.
And yeah, the arm placement is sometimes actually dictated by the hand.. because the hands actually dictate more emotion than the body may.
Like for yours.. you could have her hand flicked outward, holding her skirt all girly, like. Though you wouldn't be able to use that arm to place her hand on her hip- this is a pretty common mistake.

Let me explain.. let's say you're standing with your weight on one leg. The leg that has the weight on it is the part of the hip that is pushed out and tilted up. When you're standing this way (also known as controposto) your shoulders counterbalance, and it is much more natural to place your hand on the hip that is out than the other way.
(If you have both hands on the hips it doesn't really matter.)

But just to show you.. try it yourself. Stand with your weight on one leg, and you'll notice that that's the leg your hip sticks out on. Then try putting either hand on your hip and feel what seems more natural you know?

So yeah anyways.. if you're gonna do it like that.. straighten the arm that's bent at the moment, and use the other arm to do the "hand on hips" pose.

Either way just experiment :33 If you need a hand there's always Signomi and the Drawover thread to help <33

What Kura said just now in her post is very interesting and is another thing an artist should have in mind when they sketch any form of anatomy - just how the body contracts when a part of it is moved outwards, and so on.

I've noticed that whenever I wanted to draw dynamic poses, I...as odd as it may sound, try and act out the pose myself while looking at the mirror.

At times the pose will require me to put my leg forward, or to kneel on one leg...sometimes I even twist my hips and angle my body in a way that would give me a better idea of how to relay perspective.

My mum will sometimes come in the room and give me a smack round the earhole when she sees what I'm doing, but I am serious when I say to her that our own bodies are the best mannequins when it comes to preparing a pose for a study. I dunno, she still thinks I'm a bit loopy but that won't stop me from doing it. XD

My point is that the look and...most importantly, the feel of one's bodily movement trying to reenact a pose can give them a very broad idea of how they would want to draw it out.

The kind of tension they feel on any part they put their weight on is how the character will feel, the way you twist your body and even bend over or stretch is a kind of stress and movement that the character will most certainly feel. You've got to make sure that they feel the way you do when you're trying out these poses, and that's the sort of thing that should be presented by the way you draw them.

I must confess that I didn't even know about the Drawover thread until now, it's not often I look in the Art Gallery and I seem to skim past stickies, but I'll definitely give it a browse.

What's Youmacon?

November.. November.. I'm planing to go to a KPOP festival, although I'm still not 100% on the plans.

As for today, another half day off. Contemplating whether I want to write letters or draw.. Hmm.

Youmacon's this popular anime convention that I'd have no chance of going even if I wanted to. o3o

Well, my birthday's on the 11th of November. Plus, a few games I've been excited about are coming out in November as well. (Tales of the Abyss, One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP, etc)

Not to mention the Symphonia OVAs. AAAAAAAA

Ooh, the only convention I've been to is Comic Con 2010 in San Diego. I've never been to any of the conventions in Australia though.

Comic Con was amazing though, I had such an awesome time. I wish I went this year though. :(

Ahh, Comic Con. xD;
That must've been brilliant!
I went to Manifest(Melbourne Anime Convention) this year. It was pretty fun. o3o

It'd be a dream if I could head to Comic Con one of these years. Living in Australia makes it a tad harder. ._.;

Japan, I would love to go there one day. Funnily enough I was going to live in Japan as well, or my parents were going to go there before I was born, so I would have been born in Japan haha. I always wondered what it would be like if that actually happened.
