First Update:

  • I started up Pokemon Platinum and Chose new game.
  • Chose the female protagonist and named her Dawn.
  • I named my rival Daisuke.
  • After proceeding through most of the begging part, I was now able to pick a starter.
  • I ended up choosing Chimchar.
  • After quickly defeating Daisuke and his Piplup, I receive the running shoes from my mother.
  • I'm suddenly stopped by Daisuke as I was about to leave Twinleaf.
  • He mentions something about a legendary pokemon and Lake Verity but I didn't pay any attention.
  • At Lake Verity we see Cyrus rambling about time and Dawn and her rival are obviously.
  • A while later I'm about to Head into Sandgem Town with my level ten Chimchar to get to Professor Rowan's lab.
  • I'm greeted by Lucas on my way in Town.
  • Nicknamed my Chimchar Pyrus.
  • I receive the Pokedex.
  • I received TM27 on my way out of the lab.
  • Lucas then shows me around the town.
  • I heal up Pyruus at the pokemon Center and then visit my house.
  • I receive the Journal and not long after am tasked with delivering the Town Map to Daisuke.
  • Later on Lucas shows me how to capture pokemon and I receive five pokeballs.
  • Ran into Lucas at the entrance of Jubilife with my now level eleven Chimchar with me.
  • We run into Looker on Lucas's way to lead me to the Pokemon School.
  • Obtain the Vs. Recorder from Looker.
  • Headed North of Jubilife to train my Chimchar into a Monferno.
  • Chimchar evolved and is now my first Fighting Type.
  • I then made sure to heal up Pyrus before saving the game for now.

Update #3 on LeafGreen.

Spoiler:
  • Went down Cycling Road to Fuchsia City. Torrent evolved into Blastoise (forgot the screenshot though).
  • After I got Surf in the Safari Zone and Strength from the Warden, I taught Surf to everyone but Poseidon and Strength to Torrent.
  • Beat the rest of the trainers around Fuchsia, then took on the gym.
  • Koga went down easily to Ruby's Psychic.

  • I then surfed from Fuchsia to the Seafoam Islands, where I killed Articuno.
  • Exited the Seafoam Islands and arrived at Cinnabar Island.
  • After I beat the rest of the water trainers, I explored the Pokemon Mansion and found a Secret Key.
  • The gym was a joke with my water team. Torrent easily soloed Blaine.

  • I declined Bill's invitation to go the Sevii Islands and flew back to Saffron, where I beat the Fighting Dojo with Poseidon and Frogman.
  • Then I took on the gym. Sabrina was beaten by Aquaman, who used Bite to great effect.

  • Then I went back to Cinnabar and went to the Sevii Islands (I didn't go before because I wanted to use Rock Smash).
  • Explored Mt. Ember (die, Moltres!), rescued Lostelle and delivered the Meteorite, then sailed back to Cinnabar.
  • Finally it was time to take on the final gym.
  • Once again, the gym was weak to water, so I cruised through the trainers, then beat Giovanni easily with Frogman and Torrent.

  • After I took a side trip to the Power Plant to get Thunder and beat Zapdos, I took on Tyson again and won with Ruby and Rider.

  • Then I went through all the badge checkpoints and arrived at Victory Road, where I saved.

I've beaten the 4th Gym. Problem with fire type monotype challenge in Gen I is, you don't get to meet another fire type until you pass Rock Tunnel... so my Charizard became quite overlevelled before I caught a Growlithe... (I had to raise Charmeleon to lv33 before fighting Misty @[email protected] in order for it to learn slash) and now Arcanine is becoming overlevelled as well :3

I was wondering if I could do the Ultimate Challenge, just for Gens I-III? I just can't be bothered to use the DS Emulators because they're slow in general and the fast forward toggle doesn't work well.

Oh, and can I do FRLG instead of RBY? Or no remakes?

If not, I'll be starting an Electric Mono in Fire Red.

Alright it's been some time but I'm on vacation but I did some work on the Sinnoh part of my Ultimate Rock Monotype Challenge.

I'm doing this in Diamond and only using a Graveller because every other rock pokemon is "bad" in Sinnoh.
I had some trouble with Gardenia but I finally succeed with a 19 level advantage.
Other than that I didn't have any trouble since Graveller was overleveled.
I have just defeated the 5th gym and Graveller is lvl 54 or something.

remakes are allowed. the ultimate challenge consists of all five gens, but you can do 3 single monos if you like, and then when you feel up to it, you can continue it on the DS games. This thread will not be getting reset, and if it does, I feel it will need to bring all the challengers/champions over. There are people who have gone for a year in between games.

if you do start an electric mono on FireRed, make sure you state if it is a single or ultimate, though.

Hmm, I suppose I'll just do a regular challenge in Fire Red. There aren't a lot of Electric Mons in Hoenn or Sinnoh, anyways.

Anyways, already started the challenge.

Spoiler:

  • This old pedophile man introduces me to the world of Pokemon!

  • I inform him that my name is Sire, of course. What else would it be?

  • Oak forgets his grandson's name (very bad Grandpa) and I have to tell him that its Casual (aren't in real life inside jokes fun?)

  • I try to walk into the grass when I'm rudely interrupted by Grandpa Oak. Anyways, he offers me a free pokemon, so I have to come along.

  • After Casual whines, I decide on Bulbasaur. Destroying Charizard will be fun, won't it?

  • What else am I gonna do with her after I catch a Pikachu?

  • Casual challenges me to a battle because he really thinks type advantage matters in this situation.

  • ...I still destroy him, either way.

  • I come all this way to Viridian City, and then this guy tells me I have to go deliver a parcel to Oak? Lazy, that's what I have to say.

  • All I had to deliver was a CUSTOM POKEBALL, too. On the bright side, I get a Pokedex and five Pokeballs.

  • And I'm back to Viridian City.

  • Went through Victory Road. I ran out of Repels, arg...
  • Taught Thunder to Rider, Bulk Up to Frogman, Ice Beam to Aquaman, and Earthquake to Poseidon.

  • Agatha was more difficult than I thought because of Gengar's Hypnosis. This was a team victory.

  • Lance was beat by Rider (Thunder, Ice Beam, Surf) and Aquaman (Ice Beam).

  • Tyson, the Champion, was really hard as his Venusaur kept raping me. I finally took him out with a Max Revived Ruby.

Spoiler:
Decided I'm doing two updates every day, one in the morning and one at night.

  • I make my way through Viridian City when this old man tries to teach me how to catch a pokemon. Thanks, but I already knew this. ;)

  • I finally enter Viridian Forest in hopes of catching a Pikachu and getting to Pewter City.
(Yes, I forgot to make a screenshot)
  • After a couple tries, I finally find one and catch it with the help of SALAD. I deposit SALAD and train Pikachu to level 8, before moving into Viridian Forest.

  • I make it through Viridian Forest and enter Pewter City, hoping to get a Boulder Badge from Brock.

  • How I beat Brock with a Pikachu? A combination of Growl, Tail Whip, and Static (which lead to Parahax)

  • After passing through a bunch of trainers, I make it to the entrance of Mt. Moon! I happily run inside.
  • I go through Mt. Moon, kicking Team Rocket butt and picking up a Dome Fossil.

  • I make it to Cerulean City, heal up my pokemon, stock up on items, and enter the Gym.

  • Jerry destroys Misty and her Gym.

Update #5 on LeafGreen.

Spoiler:
  • So it was time to go to the Sevii Islands again. I had been catching Pokemon throughout the game so I had 61 already :D.
  • Retaught Rock Smash, this time to Rider, and also taught Waterfall to Poseidon when I got it in Icefall Cave.
  • Got the Ruby in Mt. Ember and returned it to Celio.
  • Explored the rest of the Islands, then found myself in the Dotted Hole, where I found the Sapphire.
  • However, an evil scientist named Gideon stole it with the intent of selling it to Team Rocket (weren't they disbanded!?!).
  • Got to the Rocket Warehouse, and after a dizzy time of it, reached the boss.
  • Defeated him pretty easily, although Weezing surprised me with Thunderbolt.

  • I also beat Gideon and got the Sapphire back.

  • After delivering the Sapphire to Celio, I sailed back to Kanto, intent on finding some Mushrooms for the Move Relearner.
  • Found some in Mt. Moon and the Pokemon Tower (thanks Serebii ItemDex!)
  • And now I will prepare for the second Elite Four challenge (delete HMs, finalize movesets, grind, and go item shopping!).

Final Update (#6) on LeafGreen.
  • Okay, well I got all my movesets finalized, then I grinded with the VS Seeker against the 2 CoolTrainers in Sevault Canyon.
  • Taught Focus Punch and Substitute to Frogman, Blizzard to Torrent, had Rider relearn Rain Dance and Poseidon Dragon Dance.
  • When everyone was at L64, I felt confident enough to challenge the Elite Four again.
  • Lorelei was again soloed by Frogman, who dominated with a single Substitute and Focus Punch.

  • Bruno was also again soloed by Ruby, who barely hung on. Surf and Psychic were the moves of choice.

  • Agatha was taken care of by Torrent (Gengar), Aquaman (Misdreavus, Arbok), and Rider (Gengar, Crobat).

  • Taught Ice Beam to Ruby here.
  • Lance was beaten mostly by Rider (Thunder'd Gyarados, Surf'd Aerodactyl, Ice Beam'd Dragonite), and Torrent (Blizzard'd Dragonite) and Poseidon (Earthquake'd Kingdra) each took out one as well.

  • And then it was time to face Champion Tyson:

I'd like to get that Ultimate Ice Mono done ^-^

I beat Blue yesterday on Rom. It only took a day to finish so I waited until now.

Start- Hacked in Jynx because I can't trade and the rules say I can hack in my Jynx. I caught it at lv 3. I nicknamed my Jynx Hips after it's Pokedex entry. Charmander was my "official" starter so that my Rival would have Squirtle. Blastoise was the most neutral to my final team, although, Thunderbolt made quick work of it.

Brock- I learned how this game was designed by training my Jynx. Hacked Pokemon seriously have a disadvantage here @[email protected] At lv 16 when I challenged him, my Jynx was still stuck with Pound and Lovely Kiss. I pounded the crud out of both Geodude and Onix. Thank you speed up button and a lot of potions!

Misty- So Hips finally starting learning moves. Lick at 18 and Doubleslap at 23. Still no power against them pesky rocks! So I taught it Water Gun. Thank goodness @[email protected] I didn't even know that Water Gun was a TM back then! I cruised through every possible trainer I could for exp from Mt. Moon to Route 25. Then I continued pounding the crud out of Misty :P I never liked Doubleslap and Lick seemed ineffective, although in retrospect, it might have been helpful for Starmie.

Surge- Hips learned the beloved Ice Punch at lv 31. Cleaned out water types with Pound and everything else with Ice Punch. Surge was easy! Everything fell to my fearsome Ice Punch!

Erika- After coming out of Rock Tunnel, my Jynx was already Lv 47 @[email protected] I needed more Ice types so I sped through some of the events needed to get my Ice army. I finished the Game Corner and Pokemon Tower ASAP! Afterwards I went to get my Super Rod so I could pick up a Lv 15 Shellder. Shellder's nickname was Kanon. Less basic than Cannon, but it still gets the job done ;3 I already had the Ice Beam TM so I evolved my Shellder right away and taught it Ice Beam and Swift. I also taught Hips Bubblebeam after deciding to just teach everyone else Surf. Erika was my newly added Pokemon's lunch. Salads are good for your health, I guess ^-^

Koga- I continued training my Cloyster by going down Cycling Road. I got it to about Lv 38. Now I needed to get a solid water move and Surf was perfect. The special HM was obtained and so were the Gold Teeth! which I exchanged for Strength. I also caught a Spearow for Fly and obtained that HM as well. Cut was obtained a long time ago of course and Charmander became my HM Slave. Now I wanted to add one more Pokemon so I sped through Silph Co just to get Lapras. No training was done here and I saved Giovanni for later. Lapras was trained at the remaining routes that Kanon wasn't trained at and was nicknamed Prima. I taught Prima Thunderbolt and Surf using TMs and HMs. I beat Koga by spamming Surf with Prima.

Sabrina- Another detour made. I traveled to the Seafoam Islands to pick up my last Pokemon, Shivers the Seel. I trained Shivers at Silph Co. where it quickly evolved into Dewgong. I just love how Dewgong looks <3 (An irrelevant sidenote). Dewgong quickly joined the ranks of my Ice Army and Sabrina was taken down by a mix of my Ice type prowess. I wanted as even training as I could get. I trained about 2 Lvs at a time and they were about Lv 42-44ish.

Blaine- I sped through this one. I was getting antsy and just wanted to finish so I could feel accomplished. After beating the surrounding routes and going through the mansion, I creamed him easily.

Giovanni- Was too easy. Same as above... except without that route part. The remaining journey was smooth sailing and even the E4 didn't put up that much of a fight...

Elite 4: I handled them with mostly type matching to be honest.

Lorelei: Lapras ruled here. Everything except Jynx was taken out with Thunderbolt. It was a shame to destroy such a fine trainer :/

Bruno: Water rules here in general. I believe I finished him off mostly with Dewgong. Jynx took care of the fighters.

Agatha: Jynx bait. I used Jynx on just about everything. There were a couple switch outs made when Jynx got hit by Confuse Ray.

Lance: Pshaw. Chump. Lapras led to take care of Gyrados and everything after fell to IceBeam.

Rival: Also pretty easy. Pidgeot finished with Ice Punch. Alakzam Body Slammed to death. Rhydon and Arcanine Surfed on. Egg boy was Ice Punched and Blastoise was electrocuted with Thunderbolt.

Raining here, so I've been playing a little more then I probably should. xD

  • So, I went back to Lavender Town after getting the Silph Scope and I went up Pokemon Tower, rescuing Mr. Fuji and getting the Poke Flute

  • I went back to Celadon and went West towards Route 16, and then went South down Route 17 and 18, reaching Fuschia City
  • I went into the Safari Zone, got Surf and the Gold Teeth, which I returned for Strength
  • I defeated Koga, earning the Poison Badge

  • I went to Rock Tunnel and went South, going into the Power Plant. I found a Magneton and caught it

  • I then found and caught an Electabuzz, completing my team

  • I picked up Thunder and headed to Celadon, where I got Tea and was able to pass the guards, making it to Saffron City

  • I infiltrated Silph Co, grinding Electabuzz and Magneton

  • I defeated Giovanni, saving the Presdient and receiving a Master Ball

  • I beat Sabrina easily with Magneton

  • I grinded Electrode and Magneton on Route 15, picking up Rain Dance
  • I then flew to Pallet Town and surfed down to Cinnabar Island

Okay, I got started on HeartGold this morning.

Name: Devin
Rival: Tyson
Starter: Totodile of course!

Spoiler:
  • I reset a few times until I got a Naughty Totodile, named him Torrent (all my water starters will be named this).
  • Did the Egg retrieval quest at Mr. Pokemon's house.
  • By the time I started battling trainers Torrent was at L10.
  • Sprout Tower was easy since Torrent has great attack and he learned Bite on the way up. Made it through without taking any damage, too.

  • Then I headed to the gym. I lost to Falkner a few times thanks to Sand-Attack and crit hax, but eventually Torrent pulled through. Rage was my main attack against Pidgeotto (Bite for Pidgey).

  • After I got the Zephyr Badge, I headed south from Violet City.
  • Torrent soon evolved into Croconaw.

  • And I saved just inside Union Cave.

Team Devin:

Torrent the Naughty Croconaw, ♂ - L19 @ Shell Bell
Ability: Torrent
Moves: Scratch, Bite, Water Gun, Rage

HM Slaves:

Bellsprout - Flash

Geodude - Rock Smash
