Final Update (#4) on Crystal.

Yay, Red is defeated!

I have to say that this team was fun to play with, especially Miltank and Furret, who I had never used before. And I love Return even more than I did before.

Anyway, here's a summary with screenshots of what happened since I was last in Lavender Town.

Spoiler:
- Went down and woke up Snorlax. Caught it for the Leftovers, which I never used lol.
- Made my way to Fuschia City, where I battled Janine.

Fable's Psychic = Ownage.

- Went through Diglett's Cave to Pewter City, where Brock is.

Led with Gerald, who used Steel Wing to great effect, taking down Golem and Onix. Phil has Dig, so he beat Omastar and Kabutops with it.

Here in Mt. Moon, Miss Tank took down Sneasel, Golbat, Gengar, and Magneton before falling to Alakazam. Gerald took down Alakazam and Typhlosion with Return.

Trainer House FTW! Sweep here with Gerald.

- Surfed from Pallet Town to Cinnabar and Seafoam Islands, where I talked to Blue and found Blaine hiding.

Miss Tank used 3 Earthquakes. 'Nuff said.

This one wasn't too hard, actually. Phil took down Pidgeot with a couple Returns, OHKOed Alakazam with Shadow Ball, then fell to Rhydon. Fable beat Rhydon with a couple Ice Punches, 2HKOed Gyarados with ThunderPunch (he missed with Hydro Pump AND Hyper Beam lol), and beat Exeggutor with 2 Ice Punches (he charged Solarbeam) before falling to Arcanine's Flamethrower. Miss Tank finished up with 2 Earthquakes.

- Time to grind against the Elite Four! But before I do that...Joe needs one more lesson.

Miss Tank made it all the way to Typhlosion due to a couple critical hits, then Fable finished off Typhlosion.

- Grinded my team to L60 by way of 6 more Elite Four victories and a few Rare Candies.
- While I was doing that, I taught Fable Ice Beam and Thunderbolt from the Move Tutor in Goldenrod.
- Climbed Mt. Silver, found Red, and the battle of ages was under way!

This was a lot harder than I thought, mainly because I had to rely on things going my way, like like Body Slam paralysis and stuff. Snolax was also very tough to beat, and Blastoise, Venusaur, and Charizard were no picnic either. So here's how I won. I led with Miss Tank, who Earthquake'd Pickachu, then after Espeon used Reflect, used Body Slam a couple times. Espeon was paralyzed, then was fully paralyzed, allowing Miss Tank to get to Snorlax by herself. I had to use a few Full Restores on Miss Tank to keep her in the game due to Snorlax paralyzing her with Body Slam, but eventually she fell, having worn down Snorlax so that Phil was able to finish him off with Return. Venusaur then came out, which was key, as I then switched Gerald into his Solarbeam. Gerald started to Fly, and Sunny Day was put up. After Gerald took care of Venusaur, Blastoise came out, and Blizzard killed Gerald. Phil then was sent back out, and he used a couple Returns to get Blastiose's HP down before falling to Surf. Blastoise also used Rain Dance to get rid of the sunlight, another key move in my favor. Fable finished Blastoise off with Thunderbolt, and Charizard was Red's last Pokemon. Now, Rain Dance was active still, so Charizard used Wing Attack (instead of the normally more powerful Flamethrower), and Fable used Thunderbolt, which took over half of Charizard's HP. The rain stopped just a moment too late for Charizard, as Flamethrower failed to kill Fable, and her Thunderbolt was enough to take Charizard down! Exciting stuff, no? The weather conditions allowed Fable to hold against Charizard when 2 normal Flamethrowers would have killed her. Man was I pumped to pull that out!

So the Hoenn region is up next. Gonna be using Emerald.

Team Norma:

Fable the Clefable, ♀ - L60 @ NeverMeltIce
Moves: Return, Ice Beam, Psychic, Thunderbolt

Gerald the Pidgeot, ♀ - L60 @ Sharp Beak
Moves: Return, Fly, Steel Wing, Quick Attack

Miss Tank the Miltank, ♀ - L60 @ Pink Bow
Moves: Body Slam, Milk Drink, Earthquake, Rollout

Phil the Furret, ♂ - L60 @ Pink Bow
Moves: Return, Quick Attack, Shadow Ball, Dig

Chikorita, ♂ - L6
Slave Moves: Flash, Cut

Psyduck, ♀ - L13
Slave Moves: Surf, Whirlpool, Rock Smash, Waterfall

Most Valuable Pokemon:
Johto MVP: Fable. She was my only special attacker with the elemental punches, although there was no real clear-cut winner here. Phil and Gerald were the ones to dominate the early gameplay, and they made their presence known throughout the later stages, as did Miss Tank.
Elite Four MVP: Miss Tank. Rollout was the reason I won against Lance, as Fable's Ice Punch just wasn't enough. She also dominated against Koga.
Kanto MVP: Miss Tank. She was the one who had the most effect in the gyms, although it was a beatdown all the way through from everyone. Earthquake was huge here.
Red MVP: Miss Tank. Took down Pikacu, and was able to take down Espeon through a Reflect with paralyze hax Body Slam. Also whittled down Snorlax. The other three members were able to build off of her effort and play key roles down the stretch, with a little help from the weather.

Signing up!

I thought this sounded interesting. Why not.

RSE Challenge
I'll be adventuring through the lands of Hoenn (in Ruby ver.) while kicking butt and taking names with my trusty Bug Type Pokemon. Team Magma... will quiver in fear.

Gonna start here soon, but this is my first time doing a challenge here on PC (or anywhere for that matter). Anything I should be aware of? And anything specific for sharing updates?

So I started last night and was doing great. I'm playing on an Emulator only because my Fire Red cartridge is packed away. Named myself Katan (as usual) my Rival Alex after my favorite ex-boyfriend <3 and started out with Charmander, nick naming him Blaze. I knew there wasn't going to get many Fire types until later but this is proving to be more difficult than I though :<

I made it past Brock ok at Lv. 16 no problem but now I am at Misty and her Staryu I can take down in two-three hits but her Starmie's Water Pulse cuts right threw Blaze's HP :/ and he's Lv. 30 right now. I might just skip Misty for now and try too run to Route 8 to snag a
Growlithe. Any advice?

@firefoxkatan: Yeah, soloing Misty with Charmeleon in FireRed is even harder than in the original games. Your only hope is to level some more and land a critical with Slash. (At least that's the only way I ever won that one)

Just a quick reply to tell you all that my UMC Ground isn't dead. Just had a few exams and no time to update.

My 4 Pokés are now past Level 70 and rocking the world. I grinded a lot by doing some runs against the E4 and then finished the Kanto badges.

At the moment, I'm collecting Gym leader phone numbers for rematches to train more.

What average level is enough to beat Red? I love my current team but I really want to move on to Emerald soon.

Cheers,
Peter

Edit: By the way, not that I care much about it, but is the first post still updated with new challengers (like me)?

Um, on my Normal Platinum I beat Maylene. Got Staraptor the last Pokemon of the last of the Karate Quads. Proceeded to OHKO everything with Aerial Ace/Close Combat. Then I got Fly. I have a few HMs that I can use, I just don't know what I want to use on who.

And to whoever asked if it was still getting updated: yes it is. If you're doing an ultimate challenge, Alakazam updates it around once a month. I just update my stuff.

Edit: Now, if everyone looks at my OP, under the RBY champion section, the can see that I'm a good like 3 types from completing all of them. I'm thinking about making a new "category" on the OP for people who want to do this, what should I call it?

Make sure you're in the basement. I made that mistake when I did that run.

Edit: Doing Ice, hacking in a Seel. I think I'm going to do it in story form.

Spoiler:
Today was the day that I was going to get my very first Pokemon. I've been thinking long and hard about it, and I've decided that I want to get a Lapras to start with, just like my mom has. They're so pretty and majestic. Really any Pokemon that is Ice type would be good. There are only four of them, and nobody seems to give them any care. They don't understand how powerful they can be, or else there would be a gym for them. Mom understands them, and look where she is! She's one of the four most powerful trainers in the world! But old Oak showed me the flier for new trainers, and it looks like I'll have to choose between either a Charmander, Bulbasaur, or Squirtle. I think I'm going to get a Squirtle, because its the closest to Ice as I could get.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Zero. I'm a new trainer in Pallet Town. Someday I'm going to be as strong as my mom, Loreli. She trains Ice Pokemon in the Elite Four, with the rest of our family. My dad's name is Lance; he's the Dragon master and strongest trainer. My grandma, Agatha, is the third best, and trains Ghosts. Mom's brother Bruno is second. He should really be the weakest of the four, but his Fighting type is better than Mom's Ice Type. So that's my family.

So I went into Oak's lab and heard his Grandson Gary complain about taking so long. Oak told us that we needed to be patient, and that a trainer's first Pokemon is oftentimes the most important selection of his life. "It is for this reason, Zero, that I'm giving you this special Pokemon. We don't usually give out Pokemon other than Squirtle, Charmander, or Bulbasaur, but your mom specifically wanted you to have this Pokemon." Oak said. He handed me a Pokeball, and inside, was a baby Seel. "No fair! I want a rare Pokemon!" Gary complained. When Oak wouldn't let him have one, he decided to take Bulbasaur. "If I take this Bulbasaur, I'll be really good against your stupid sea lion. Let's battle!" Gary said.

As the battle started, Gary quickly found out that his Bulbasaur didn't come with any attacks that were good against my 'stupid sea lion'. We beat him without much worry. He stormed out of the room furious.

I could already tell we were going to be best friends. I decided to nickname this Seel 'Indigo' because it was my dream to get to Indigo Plateau, and he was going to get me there. Oak suggested that I try to beat all the gyms, and maybe one day I could challenge my mom in a battle. I agreed and headed to Viridian City, where the first gym was supposed to be. On the way there, Indigo battled a lot of wild Pokemon, all of whom were just Pidgeys and Rattatas, but it got him some nice experience. Every battle it seemed like his Headbutt was hitting harder.

I eventually made it to Viridian City. Excited to take on the gym, Indigo and my hopes were crushed when an old man at the door told us that the gym was closed. Looking for more information on the subject, we headed to the Pokemart. Inside, the clerk asked me if I could run an errand for him. A package for Prof. Oak came in, but he was too busy working, and Oak never has the time to come get it. I agreed to run it to him, because I was heading back anyways. I was going to ask him if he knew anything about the mysterious Gym closing. He was unsure. The only advice he could give me would be to head for Pewter City. He knew there was another Gym there, maybe if I skipped the first one, by the time I got all the other badges, the gym would be reopened. I then gave him the package, which contained a Pokedex for myself and Gary. He told the two of us that he wanted us to fill our Pokedex with as many Pokemon as we could find so that he could research them back at the lab. I saw Gary's eyes twinkle, this was what he was going to do with his life. He was going to catch every single Pokemon. I decided to let him fight that challenge by himself, I on the other hand, was going to train until I could beat my mom; my whole family for that matter. So we set off.

On the way back to Viridian, I saw a nice man who gave me a free sample Potion. He worked at the Viridian Pokemart, and hoped that this would get me to go buy something at the Pokemart. I agreed and bought a Pokeball. If I was going to catch some more Ice Pokemon, I figured I should head for Seafoam Island, which was located in the far South. It was, of course an island, which meant that I would have to get myself there either by swimming from a nearby island, or flying there. I heard that Fearow, a bird Pokemon, could support me and Fly me there. Although Fearow didn't show themselves nearby, Spearows did, and they eventually evolved into Fearows. So I set off to the west to search for a Spearow. While I was looking, I saw Gary, who apologized for storming off in our last battle, and wanted to battle again for real. It was a really tough battle. He had caught a Pidgey that he was training, and it kept sweeping sand into Indigo's eyes so he couldn't see. After I beat the Pidgey, his Bulbasaur came out, who shot seeds at me that sapped my health. After the battle, Gary decided that he needed even more Pokemon. Soon after I battled Gary, I encountered a Spearow. I caught it and named it Destiny, for it was my destiny to get to the Island.

And so Indigo and I were off. Pewter and Viridian were separated by a forest, Viridian Forest. The forest was teeming with wild Bug Pokemon and those who were interested in the Bugs. Indigo and I didn't see anything special with them, and the two of us made short work of the Bug Catchers. As soon as I got out, I gave Indigo a quick check up at the Pokemon Center, and then we headed for the Gym. I found outside that the gym was a Rock Gym. which was unfortunate, because Indigo didn't have any Water Type moves yet, and could only Headbutt enemy Pokemon. Brock's apprentice only had Ground Type Pokemon though, so I was able to defeat him. Brock was another story. His Geodude did decent damage to Indigo before going down. And then his Onix came out. After 4 Potions and all of my Headbutt's Onix was almost down. I had to use Struggle to get it to faint though. But I got the job done.

Brock gave me his badge and a TM that had Bide in it, one of the moves that the Onix was using on me. I chose to not teach it to Indigo, and instead sold it to the local Mart. By this time, the sun was setting, so I decided to spend the night at the Center. Tomorrow I continue on my journey.

Brock told us that he had no idea why Viridian’s gym was closed, and that he agreed with Oak; we should just do all the other gyms first. He let me know that the next gym to go to was in Cerulean City, and to go there, I had to go through the cave to the east, Mt. Moon. But he warned me, there were some suspicious people inside Mt. Moon, so I really needed to be careful.

On the way to this cave, we found a whole bunch more trainers to fight. Indigo took them all down. There was a Pokecenter right at the caves, so I let Indigo rest for just a bit before we headed on. Inside the cave, after just a couple of battles, we found a rusty TM lying on the ground. After close inspection, I learned it contained Water Gun, perfect for an aquatic Pokemon like Indigo! With this newfound power, we continued through the cave. The first floor looked all right, but Brock was right, downstairs there were some people in matching uniforms with large R’s on them. The first one I found informed me that they were Team Rocket, Pokemon gangsters. I was thrown into battle with him, but it wasn’t hard at all. Along with the Water Gun TM, I also found a TM named ‘Mega Punch’ which I thought would be useful later, a candy for my Pokemon, and a rope that I could use to get out of caves like the one I was in.

Further in the cave, I encountered a Rocket with a metal pole, beating some little guy. He stopped when he saw me, and challenged me to a battle. He wasn’t good at all, and I beat him and kicked him out of the cave. By then, the guy could stand by himself, and challenged me. He was a lot tougher than the Rocket that was beating him. I assume that the Rocket realized he couldn’t win in a Pokemon fight, so he resorted to beating him. But, I got by him. He even gave me one of his two fossils because I helped him out. I picked the one that had a swirl on it. Then I continued to Cerulean City, which was right on the other side of the cave.

The first thing I did was head for the Gym. All the trainers here had aquatic Pokemon, just like me. But Indigo was a lot better than any of the Pokemon there, with possibly the exception of Misty's Starmie. I had to use a couple of potions on him to prevent him from dieing, but in the end, we prevailed. After the battle, Misty gave me a Badge, and a TM. It was her favorite Attack, Bubblebeam, and she couldn't show it to me because I was using a Water Pokemon just like her. So, I taught it to Indigo so I could see it whenever I wanted.

After healing, curiosity got the better of me, and instead of heading south towards the next Gym, I decided to go north. Who should I find but Gary? He told me that some Pokemon researcher lived to the north (it was a dead end other than that) and that he showed him some rare Pokemon to add to his Pokedex. He also caught a couple more Pokemon, and wanted to see how they would do against my Indigo. First, he sent out a Pidgeotto, apparently his Pidgey had evolved. All it had time for was a couple of Sand-Attacks before it went down. Next he sent out an Abra, a new Pokemon that I had never seen before. Apparently he had no defense, because one headbutt took it out. After that was a Rattata, which was nothing new, and finally, his Bulbasaur. The sand in Indigo's eyes caused him to miss a couple of times, and it actually turned out to be a close fight.

So I followed behind Gary's footsteps and fought through the trainers on the way to this Bill guy. When I got there, a strange Pokemon was staring at me. Then it started... talking to me. True story. Apparently, it was Bill, who accidentally combined his DNA with a Pokemon's and got transformed into one. I helped him turn back into a human, and he gave me a ticket to a fancy boat in Vermilion City, which is where the next Gym was anyways.

I healed once I got back in Cerulean, and headed for Vermilion. On the way there, I heard someone scream "Stop, thief! Someone help!" I turned and saw a Rocket running straight at me. Indigo headbutted him and he fell over. He then challenged me to a battle, with the winner getting the TM that he stole. I, of course, won. I got the TM and tried to return it to the person that it got stolen from, but they wouldn't accept it, and decided to teach the move to their Pokemon naturally. Beat, I went back to the Pokecenter for the time being.

Got tired of making a story:
Got to the elite four with level 42 Lapras (Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Body Slam, Surf), 48 Jynx (Psychic, Ice Beam, Body Slam, Lovely Kiss), 49 Dewgong (Surf, Ice Beam, Body Slam, Strength) 30 Shellder (Tri Attack, Surf, Clamp, Supersonic), and HM Slave Farfetchd (Cut, Fly)
Used 6 Rare Candies on Lapras
Beat Loreli with Thunderbolt from Lapras and my Jynx beat her Jynx
One shot Bruno with either Psychic or Surf (you decide which move was for which Pokemon)
Jynx destroyed Agatha
Lapras had fun with Lance
Lapras soloed Gary, with the exception of Venusaur, who I let Jynx take out.

Obligatory screenshots:

In case anyone was wondering, my theme was "shades of Blue". Majorelle was the original Lapras name, but when I couldn't name Jynx Maya, I went with Maya for Lapras.

Update two:

-Grinded a level or two then battled Misty. Moko eventually got fainted by starmie, but Marku quickly saved the day.
-Went up nugget bridge, refuse TR's offer, saved Bill
-Went to SS Anne and got cut, picked up old rod but I'm not trying to get a magikarp
-Caught bellsprout HM slave, called it FLASHHEAD and taught it cut
-Went through diglett's tunnel to get flash
-Got it, then went back to Vermillion to battle Surge
-He actually won the first time round (I OKOed his first 2 mons with Marku's dig, but he was then killed by a thundershock crit, and the same happened to Moko)
-I OKOed all his mons the second time round though, can't wait until I get to Fuchsia and grab the good rod.

Am I allowed to restart just the Johto Leg of my Normal UMC? It just kind of... failed... and I would like to switch to a game that has Girafarig in it (I think it's Silver?)

Dude, what happened? anyway, gold or silver has Girafarig. And I don't see why you wouldn't be able to start over.

i've restarted legs twice, so yeah i'm assuming its fine. and gold and silver both have girafarig

Speaking of restarting, i restart the sinnoh leg of my fighting UMC on Platinum last night. Got to the clown question thing. forgot to save. ughhhhh. so far, i really hate this leg. and since im not overly motivated, it took me like 40 minutes to get to where i had been when i hadn't saved (which is kind of sad). i beat my rival and a few trainers, chimchar evolved. thats it for tonight, im really not into playing tonight.

Pokemon Type: BUG
Game: Emerald Cartridge
Battle Style: SET

Meet trainer Kilik. Trainer Kilik chose a mudkip, promptly named Skotch and dubbed a future HM slave. Your future looks bright, Skotch!

Obtained pokeballs; catch level 3 wurmple; ????; Profit!! Welcome to the team, Balutre~ Commence grinding! .o.
What a beautiful... Dustox~ (I love her already!)
Skotch is boxed for the time being.

We meet Wally, then meet a kid who thinks leaving footprints in the sand is fun (guessing he's related to the footprint man in D/P/Pt, hah), and catch a silcoon in Petalburg Woods. Say hello, Cuvossi.

Skip over Rustboro gym for now and catch a Nincada (one of my favorite bug types). Name him Dahj. :3 Grind a few battles, aaaaand... PRESTO! Cuvossi evolved into beautifly~

Finally decide to try out the gym, despite the fact that I will most likely get crushed (literally). Status: running away! (and dropping money everywhere!!!) Next time...

-grindgrindgrindyouknowneverminddoitagain-

Battle 2. Cuvossi KO'd, 1 hit. Balutre KO'd, 2 hits. Nahj... SWEEPED THEM. Harden/Sand Attack/Leech Life. You are my love. <3
