Disclaimer: General musing...

I'm at a point in the game where I feel like I'm not making any progress. My next challenge is the 8th gym in Johto, for which I know I'll need an Ice 'mon. So, trying to train up an ice 'mon, just evolved a Vaporeon so trying to train that up, all my 'mons are lower level than I'd like to move forward.

I think I've mostly run out of pre-Gym trainer battles (other than re-matches), so everything is training slow as molasses. The Radio Tower was pretty fun tho..

Just feeling kind of aimless and there's only so many times I can go win the Power Pokethelon before I scream. :)

What did you guys do when you hit a "boredom" spot?

Simple : Pokeathlon ! :D
I could keep playing the Stamina Course for full hours and not get bored.

It happened when I was traning for Lance. Apparently, it was Monday Daytime which meant Youngster Joey was rematchable. And I got tired if Raticates LV. 38 ones, while all my Pokemon were 43 (I challenged Lance while all my team was 45.).

And now, as I'm training up an Ambipom and a Pupitar, I hit another boredom spot. Guess what : POKEATHLON ! <3

Is the Stamina Pokethelon as easy as the Power one? I failed miserably on the Speed one.

Yes akpak I feel you're pain, Johto seems to have the roadblock problem once you get to that point in the game most of your Pokemon are hovering around the 30-35 range but there really are very few solid training spots, and very little trainers outside the ones South of Blackthorn. (which I beat all pretty quickly)

Pretty much you just have to grind it out.. I'm in a similar situation except it's after Blackthorn gym and I've received clearance to reach Ho-oh but I want my main party to be level 40.. before I try to capture it, and then make my way towards the Elite four.

I take the time to grind bit by bit as I play through the game - I spend a lot of time training west of Ecruteak so I don't have as much to grind later, when it takes a lot longer for Pokemon to grow levels.

Sometimes I just have to take a break from the game for a couple hours or so, then return to grinding.

I managed to beat all the Blackthorn Gym trainers with my current team, but I don't feel confident about the leader battle.. Especially since all her 'mons are female! (I <3 Attract)

The experience share really does boost the EXP gain by quite a bit. After catching or defeating the red gyarados, you get a red scale, take that to Mr. Pokemon to get the EXP share.

Yep, using it. Raising Vaporeon and Jolteon with it. They're both 30 now, going to push them to ~34 before going back into Blackthorn Gym (Jolteon with Blizzard)

You're going to have to grind a lot. Here's a simple trick I use to get the most out of my grinding: whenever I'm fighting trainers, I generally stop when my Pokemon's exp. meters are at the halfway mark. Then I grind with wild Pokemon. I only use trainers for the first chunk of the exp. meter, then max out with wild Pokes.

I did that, and my team is between 61 and 73, without too much wild grinding.

I fell that a Lapras would be a better option.

I tend to find I "lose my will to fight" around the time when I need Surf. I can't decide what order to do things in, and then I tend to end up restarting my game.

So I have to plan which direction to go, and stick to it xD

Now. At the Elite 4. Power Leveling 3 low level pokemon from level 15 to level 45. So boring. Spent about 2-3 hours at the Elite 4 at the mo and got my Flaffy from level 15 to level 38 Ampharos.

I've beaten Red (and yet i haven't managed to beat the E4 Round 2 yet) so currently I'm training Venusaur and working to fill my national dex and rematch all those gym leaders.
