What's worse: remembering a friend you know you'll never be friends with again, due to distance and a change in their friendship group, or a friend that has left and you know will never return to PC, either through being banned or their own choice? And even if you don't have friends, or are new, what do you think would be worse?

I... thought of this idea thinking of a few friends that I once missed and really, I think it's worse with never seeing them again, because I guess there's always the safety net of "maybe they'll be friends with me again one day" for the former, when I know that's not true. When they're gone, it's like there's no chance, and I'd like to think they'd return someday, but I know it's just not going to happen, so I try to forget.

So yeah, what's your take on this?

For me it's a mixture of both. A lot of my friends just don't go as much anymore and for some we just rarely talk.
As well for me since I've started drifting to other forums where I'm more well known and I have a stronger friendship for some there.

Though it would be nice to start talking to my friends here again

Internet friendships are really hard when one ends. I haven't really experienced this with PC.

But... I used to go to a chatroom where I became really close friends with a girl name Mol. We lost contact for two or so years, occasionally talking every now and then. She decided to leave the internet for good in between a long period of time. She was really kick ass. Loved her to death as a friend. Miss her terribly. Sometimes I worry that something bad happened to her - like she died or something - and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of her.

It hurts. And I hope that it doesn't happen again, but she's the only person who's had that affect on me after splitting ways.

I feel saddened when people I was real close with gets banned or stop coming on PC. I barely talk to anyon nowadays so its not that big off a deal when people don't talk to me like crazy. I lot of my friends have left and hopefully they atleast still stalk the forum often. When friends leave that makes an opportunity for new friends I guess :|.

Personally, the former.

I made quite a few good friends that I really liked, but then we really grew apart, and now we actually kind of hate one another. If they leave, I'd try and get some form of contact info. (AIM, MSN, LJ username, etc.).

Despite the fact, that I don't have real friend here. I can clearly say, that losing a friend because of his/her endless absence/ban on forum is much worse. I haven't experienced that feeling yet (D2jsp is a forum, where you only trade and spam in individual sections, and have only 1 or 2 "real" friends, but I have contact with those, still. But it's a not important example, never mind it).
