I had this as a topic for my English essay!

Well, I believe it can and cannot. Having a lot of money means you can buy whatever makes you happy and anything you want. So, it does buy happiness.

But having a lot of money can sometimes leave you hungering for more, making you greedy and maybe selfish. This way people will leave you and you will be lonely. So, it does not buy happiness, too.

Money makes life easier. My family doesn't have that much money (but you wouldn't be able to tell if you looked at me, considering I dress in A&F and am well groomed) and are experience difficult times right now as we look for a new place to live and get denied due to credit problems. Due to this, as I stated to someone who asked me yesterday something about money, although I think money does buy happiness, I think money is the root to a lot of problems, and is therefore evil. :]

Depends on the person. For me, yes, money can definitely buy happiness, though I'm a rather unemotional and greedy person. Money can buy me the finer things in life, and being able to indulge in luxuries makes me very happy.

I believe that it can, but whether it will is a huge if. In order for money to buy happiness, you have to know how to use it. It could theoretically buy you knowledge on how to use it to buy happiness, but how would someone without knowledge to begin with be able to do such things?

Basically, big huge if on how you use that money and whatnot.

Well, going on the fact that lacking money can really be a hefty burden, I'd say the reverse is true, too. Unless you like living a simple life out in the wilderness surviving on what you can find/hunt/craft yourself, money is pretty essential for living comfortably. That in itself may not make you happy, but it allows you to not have to worry so that you are able to seek happiness.

In short, money by itself I don't think can buy happiness, but it can buy your opportunity to seek it by taking care of your basic needs.
