Ok so I would like a little help with this >.<

I have a 4 AAA battery holder, it has two wires on it. I can get a voltage from it no problem at all ^.^

What I want to do is connect it to this. The black part screws off and what I see is this:

That gray thing is there to signify it's in the air V_V so ya rough sketch.

What I'm trying to make is a portable PSP charger, the plug fits right into the slot, but no matter what I do with the wires I can't get it to work, so I asked my dad a little bit about it(he wants nothing to do with the project but still answers simple questions to send me in the right direction) and he said that unless I solder it it won't work AT ALL. Thing is, I only got one battery holder so if I mess up I'm done XP any guidance :3?

EDIT:
Problem solved! It just needed to be soldered, I put the positive in the floaty part and negative in the ground, works like a charm!
