Lighten up. Wow.
Yes thank you. I read that and i understood perfecly what he meant. Why? my brain sorts it out for me, thus rendering stupid grammer rules like "than/then" useless. The only things with a use for grammer is computors. Agian, where not writing formal essays.

This thread sort of upsets me.

No, they're not missing a piece of their brain and they don't need to go back to kindy.

Scott (Blazichu) uses then instead of than and... although it might slighly annoy me, he prefers it that way and it's his choice. XD;

Because it's not formal. Gee, intelligent humans should be included in the endangered species list.
You can be intelligent and still dislike pointless rules like most of grammer. I wish i could go back to the time when spelling and grammer werent standardized.

Because it's not formal.
wait, how does this help your argument? thats my point. Its not formal, were just getting our ideas out there on a post.

Realising of course that most people don't know who Scott is?

Look, no one has perfect grammar. Everyone is going to make mistakes, and English might not even be their first language. If you can fluently speak and understand English, great for you. Stop being a jerk about it.

Ummm, no. I would only have to go back about two hundred years.
Because that IS my argument.
okay, then i agree with you. This is not formal writing, were not writing a book, so why does it matter? we can all understand what you're writing even if you make simple errors. Although i have to say, some people dont use periods or commas, which makes there posts really hard to read. Not using periods is a major error though.

Grammar Nazi thread detected.

Seriously people, who cares about minor grammar mistakes or typos on the internet? Writing in an as correct as possible way is certainly a good thing, but this isn't school, dammit.
Then again, I sometimes get a bit annoyed too when people suck at speaking my language...

It's true. My grammar has errors, too. I'm from a foreign country too though, not too easy all the time~I know Then is a real word, but people shouldn't use it in the wrong combinations. I keep getting the thought that people just type it down like it's pronounced (Many aussies say than like then, for example).

I prefer that people use proper grammar, but I usually don't flip out when someone makes a mistake, as long as I can understand their intent. A forum isn't like a term paper; we're allowed to be a bit more informal here.

As for the cause of bad grammar in today's society, I blame English classes focusing more on classical literature than grammar. Really, how is theme and symbolism going to help you make sure you don't make a mistake on that report you have to write for your supervisor? [/rant]

I'm pretty meh about grammatical errors. Of course, it matters when you're doing something for school and whatnot, but when it's an error done in the internet, it doesn't bother me at all. I mean, I don't expect people to be fastidious with their grammar on the internet, nor do I expect that all people online speak English as their first language.

This is a FORUM, not school. If you want to correct someone's grammar, go tutor some people who are failing English IRL.
Can't believe people get worked up over insignificant things like this. Then others wonder why our race is always getting into wars. -.-
The best expectation is to have no expectations.

The thing is, unless you have good language skills, you're not going to be an effective communicator, and people aren't going to take you as seriously. Try submitting a resume with a bunch of spelling errors and tell me how far that gets you.

In any case, language is sort of a big deal. It's our most important tool for interacting with one another. It's something worth doing correctly.
