To have a blog, you have a few options.

- Become a PC Supporter by donating. More information here [link]
- Obtain 5000 posts (without spamming the forums of course)
- A higher staff can also give you blog permissions within reason
- Become a moderator

Think about it-- would you think it's fair for some random noob that just joined to automatically have a blog? The blog page sure would be spammy. And it would give leeway to troll blogs. It would just get ~nasty~ really. Think of a blog as a reward for meeting one of those requirements.

I imagine there might be some technical reason for this as well, but I'm just using my wit here.

Well, for starters, to prevent noobs/spammers/trolls. You could make maybe a 50 or 25 post requirement to blog
You don't suddenly become mature when you're legally recognised as an adult, just as you don't suddenly turn from troll/spammer/'noob' to contributive member at the stroke of a post count. There are trolls and 'noobs' with thousands of posts on this forum; a post restriction won't stop that.
'It's been a prevalent notion. Fallen sparks. Fragments of vessels broken at the Creation. And someday, somehow, before the end, a gathering back to home. A messenger from the Kingdom, arriving at the last moment. But I tell you there is no such message, no such home -- only the millions of last moments . . . nothing more. Our history is an aggregate of last moments.'

Well, yes but if the person has to post so many times, the person has to put in effort and thus preventing spambots, etc.

Except that I've never heard of a script being written for a spambot to blog things. Not to mention spambots only represented 33% of the posters you mentioned, which means you're leaving out trolls and 'noobs'. Not liking the logic here at all; my point's still valid.

Then only revoke blogs for those who abuse blogging.

That's like saying, 'alright, I want all the higher staff to go through everyone's posts every twenty-four hours and ban whoever happens to be spamming.' Not only is that a ridiculous system, it's too time-consuming and would just make the blogging interface look like a mess. Also I'm not sure if the server would be able to handle so many people suddenly being able to blog.

Have mods for blogs. Their job is like for normal mods, to check posts, for them to check blogs
Or we could go with the system that we have now that works, instead of making a transition to something that'll most likely create drama due to suspended bloggers claiming the 'blog moderators' have no fair case to stop them blogging and they're just being bias.

Its just putting a system similar to the one in place for moderators of forums.
You're saying people don't appeal against mods for infracting them?
To determine who deserves blogging privileges isn't as subjective as infractions are.

They do. It's just way more hassle than the system we already have in place. Why create the drama that might arrive because a moderator suspended a person's blog when the way we have things set up now avoids drama all together? (This is the first time I've really seen someone challenge the blog stipulations since they were introduced.)

Having a blog here isn't a right. It's a privilege here on PC. As JakeyBoy pointed out, there are other sites that allow you to create a blog without any stipulations. Join there and blog all day long and advertise it in your signature. Go to another forum that allows you to make a blog whenever you want. But as for PC, having blogs set as rewards is what works for this forum, and people have accepted that. It makes things easier on staff. It makes those with blogs feel special because they did something to deserve the blog, whether it's donating money, time, or having something interesting to say to the forum.

Pretty much, it's just easier to prevent storms than to deal with them. In other words, it's better to have stipulations for blogs than to have people abuse the privilege and possibly revoke the entire system for everyone involved. With how things are now, blogs are considered a nice addition to the forum instead of some blight that creates tension.

Why have these limitations?
Because the people who have blogs on this site should be very active members. Donating, getting 5,000 posts, a staff position, or special recognition should be proof of that.

You can just infract them if their blog is spamming/trolling
Sure, we could, but it's still easier for the staff to keep an eye on members before they get a blog to see who spams or trolls. But once a member gets 5000 posts/donates/becomes moderator/gets special permission, then pretty much 99.9% of the time, they aren't going to troll/spam the blog.

It's a preventive measure. Makes things easier. And those who use the blogs get their actual posts noticed instead of someone making spammy posts just because they can.
