I'm no good with computers, but I think the computer you're using may be a bit old and a bit overused.
My computer is pretty new. I bought it last year. It could be overused, but I don't think thats why its making the sounds.

Could it be the fan?

I'm not great with computers myself but i had a problem with my old desktop. I took the cover off, took it outside and blew air through it and that sorted it out.
Thats what I think, but, I don't know how to take the cover off my computer. :/

Where did the sound came from inside the CPU or somewhere? Well if it's inside your CPU then I'm not sure but I think it's your hard drive dying.

Well, describe it better for us, please. It's probably just that one of the fans is turning on for a while and then turning off. Also, open your computer and check for dust inside the case, and then follow this guide if it's dusty. Be careful not to spray any canned air into your power supply, as that may fry it.

It stopped making the sound, I guess it was because of the CD in it.

Also, just a question, when I started downloading things today they're taking a quite a lot longer time then they usually do. Is it because of the site I downloaded the thing from or something?

There might not be much memory left in the computer, or you could clear out your computer (recycling bin, internet folders ect.)

Then it was your CD drive spinning while it was reading the CD.

Well, what kind of connection do you have? It potentially could be related to you hitting the download cap that your ISP has in place, but I doubt it because of how much downloading that would involve to hit most caps.

Your download is lagging? Then it's probably that your Internet connection is slow. It might be because of the site/upload site, yes, but have you tried downloading from a different source?
I use Rapidshare, hotfiles and MU which it usually goes at a decent pace, but now it has become really slow.

I have a WPA connection (router) What do you mean ISP and Download cap?

Download cap as in download capacity, I think. Maybe you reached your download limit. How much data can you download per month or is it limitless? I think he means that. ISP mean your Internet Service Provider, you know that host that provided you the Internet. If you reached your download limit, chances are you cannot download anymore data or the download speed will slow down a lot.

And maybe you are downloading too much at the same time.

Spoiler:
An ISP is your broadband provider, 'Internet Service Provider' a download cap is generally a monthly limit placed on a connection by the ISP, such as "250gb per month" and if you go over that , you may be charged and your connection speed reduced.

A WPA Connection (router) would simply mean that you've got a Router that is 'encoding' your network with WPA Encryption, that's the code that you'd have to enter when you want to connect the first time (or every time depending on settings)

Your kind of connection would be your speed and who you get your broadband from.

EDIT: Someone got there first

A cap is usually how much data you download monthly. How many files matters not, it's how big each file is. And it's pretty easy to hit a cap, if you have one, whilst torrenting.

I am not familiar with Vonage, though I know some who use it, I think yes. When you bought and subscribed to Vonage, weren't you given an account you can access? I'm pretty sure most ISPs do that. You then can log in to your account there and check if there is a download limit or whatever: http://www.vonage.com/?login&refer_id=WEBHO0706010001W I hope it's allowed to link there.

Other than that, wait for someone who knows better.

Is there always a cap? Or someway to get around it?
Depends on your provider. My provider hasn't bothered to instate a download cap.

Right, could you guys please stop posting advice when you clearly don't have the experience to say? I appreciate that you're trying to help, but you're just going to confuse the matter.

Yeah, the Optical Drive will spin up at boot, and they are still one of the noisiest things in a computer. Put it this way. I have mine unplugged when I don't need it. When I do, I just pop the SATA cable back in. I'm this to getting a USB DVD drive and calling it a day.

And with regards to download caps, they're more prevalent is certain countries than others. For example, Australia has download limits on everything aside from really high-end ADSL1 connections and most dial-up connections.

Have you even been downloading something...? I mean a lot, compare it with how much you downloaded last month, is it more? If it is, then it could be you reaching the download limit.
Not even half a month has passed, it isn't likely that you reached the Download Limit already though.
On the other hand, in most places, exceeding the limit means not being able to download anything, or having to pay for each mb. I doubt this could be a possibility.

Do you know what plans you have subscribed to? How much bandwidth Vonage is suppose to give you, (1 mbps, 2 mbps etc...)? How much? If so, goto http://www.speedtest.net/ and check. If it gives unexpected results, lower speed than usual... contact Vonage, otherwise your internet is fine.

Do you have other computers at home, connected at the same time? Then your download speed will reduce if the other computers are on the internet or downloading.
Do you have a WiFi connection? Somebody might be steeling it!

This could be because some stupid software was downloading updates and so your speed was down... That happens.

If nothing else works, just contact Vonage. You could tell us your bandwidath and your download speed you are getting atm and what you were getting earlier.

Well, no. Plans will usually initiate on the day of connection. For example, my quota resets on the 19th.

I think you'll find that most places will shape/slow the connection, so it's entirely possible.
