Today in Chemistry class, we were measuring the density of a both regular and diet coke. Sometime in the class, my friend started lecturing me on how diet coke apparently is actually less healthy then regular coke, or so he said, I don't know if he's right. He said they put more chemicals or something in diet soda. Anyway, I got curious, which one do you guys usually drink? Regular Soda or Diet Soda?

Oh, and Diet soda is less dense than water while regular is more dense. ^^
he did it, not me.

I prefer the diet soda (..over here soda is bread?). I'd believe anything, really. So instead of picking up the regular tin of coke/whatever, I go for the diet one. But now that you mention it, I didn't know the diet one was unhealthy. o__o

Really if you drink large amounts it's bound to be bad for you, but for a small amount it's not going to affect you as bad. Ones filled with more Chemicals while the other one is with more Sugar, there's no real way to win, so really no matter which way, they're both as bad as each other.

To be honest I never really liked the Diet as much as regular it's not as sweet tasting, sweet taste happens to be a big part for me. Besides regular makes me hyper way better than diet because of the sugar in them, so yeah. Regular all the way! :D

Diet versions are given sugar alternatives, additives. It could well be less fattening, as they are marketed, but more healthy? I wouldn't think so.

The sweetener is Diet Coke has been found to cause cancer in lab rats....just something to think about.

Despite that, I find myself drinking diet sodas just as much as regular sodas. It depends on my mood. XD

I love diet soda but I'm pretty sure it is way unhealthier for you. My dad's a bit of a health freak and I grew up listening to him tell me how it has aspartame in it and that it causes cancer and all this fun stuff. I still drink it though, I like the "lighter" taste and it doesn't leave the same yucky feeling in my mouth that regular does.

I've heard that diet is alot worse for you, but all I know for sure is that I don't like the aftertaste. I drink regular.

I drink regular, usually... the diet sodas don't taste good when warm, and, unless you're diabetic or at high risk for it, there isn't an advantage to drinking the diet soda over the regular soda.

The reason that regular sodas are thicker than water is because they've got corn syrup in them, usually, whilst diet sodas have thinner sweeteners instead.

Personally, though, I prefer soda made with real sugar cane, even though it's considerably more expensive.

@Inkpuddle: That aftertaste is probably from the sugary corn syrup that regular soda has in it. Try stuff made with real sugar cane some time. Much better flavor, in my opinion. ^-^

I prefer any type of soda really. I am not fussed to if it has less sugar or more sugar than the other since I am already a pretty healthy person. I know it isn't an excuse but..

Anyway; I do notcie the difference in taste between the two. Diet soda has less of a taste comapred to regular soda.

Regular soda all the way. Diet has that awful aftertaste. Strangely enough, the rest of my family prefers diet, which completely baffles me.

Diet tastes funny to me in the first place, but my grandfather sort of scared my out of wanting to drink it. knows someone who used to have spasms a whole bunch, and apparently it was because she drank so much diet soda. 3 a day or something like that. She switched to one or two regular sodas a day and soon the spasms stopped completely.

I remember hearing that whatever sweetener they use in diet soda are present in Splenda. I haven't done extensive research, so I don't know exactly what the chemical is, but we're basically under the assumption that Splenda's the devil. We use cane sugar or agave whenever possible. Agave syrup actually makes a wonderful sweetener, especially for iced tea.
