Not sure if this warrants a thread of its own, but I haven't seen a topic like this in this section (and I've been pretty active here) so here goes nothing.

This thread is to discuss how you feel about the types in BW? Not the particular Pokemon, but about each type as a whole, and/or discuss the combos we got. I don't know about everyone else, but I judge each gen by how good or bad the types I favour do in said gen. Perhaps it's just best if I explain...

I think BW got some great Pokemon and typings, but overall, the Grass type kinda got shafted if you ask me. It's my favourite typing ever, period, so while it might be cool that we got Dark/Fighting and stuff running around, it doesn't matter to me as much. There's just way too many pure Grass types and overall I think last gen was much better for Grass. BW Grass types feel like missed opportunities, you know? We have a great Grass/Fighting legend, and Mebukijika's typing is unique, and Nuttre's typing is just utter wickedness, but the rest is nothing to write home about.

Erufuun should have been a Grass/Ghost (who said ghosts can't be cute?) given its mischievous nature, and yes, everyone's sick of hearing about it, but Jaroda could have been Grass/Dragon (then again, him being pure Grass wouldn't seem so "meh" if everyone else wasn't pure Grass too). And Water typing would have suited Marakachi well, if only so it's at least different somehow from every other gimmicky unevolved Grass type (Carnivine says hi). Yanakki should have been Grass/Fighting; it might seem like a Breloom remake, but actually they work quite differently, as Yanakki hasn't got powders to use or Poison Heal, and unlike Breloom, he's got great speed and good spA, so he'd have had a different competitive niche. Not to mention the pokeball mushroom guy would have been better off with Grass/Dark typing; he's got good defenses unlike Shiftry and Cacturne, plus access to Spore and other such moves.

It's not just typing itself, of course. The grassers this gen have stats a little too much like those of previous Grass types; Doredia is a sad case of amazing design meets boring typing meets some nifty moves (Sleep Powder, Butterfly Dance, confusion-free Petal Dance) meets horrible movepool. On the other hand, Erufuun has a nifty movepool, but it's lacking in the offenses department (aka suffers from the Jumpluff syndrome). Jeez, nobody is asking for the Grass version of Chandelar, but there's no good reason why half these guys should see little use in competitive battling due to these unnecessary limitations. So as far as Grass types go, I think this gen has been good to the type, but should have been much better.

My other fave type is Water, and I actually think this gen has been very good to the Water type (the last gen gave us good ones, but very few); I think that Daikenki is very good despite the haters (mixed sweeping ftw), and the water ghost is just amazing as is Abagora despite the otherwise awful typing. It is not, however, without drawbacks: there's no reason, period, why Basurao should exist. Swanna is a Pelipper pretending to be a swan; it looks great but her stats and the like are just idiotic. If you're going to make a Pokemon as good-looking as her, why not make her BETTER than Pelipper, rather than just as useless? The same thing happens with Gamagerog; he's not useless (and neither is Politoed) but the stat distribution is dumb. If you're gonna remake Politoed with a better typing, can't you distribute its stats differently? Seriously. And then we have Mamanbou; I love the thing, but its spD stat kills me. At least it's not useless, bad special defense and all. As for Hiyakki, he's not too bad, but Daikenki outclasses it in every way, even if it doesn't have the speed Hiyakki has.

But enough rambling; how do YOU feel about BW in relation to YOUR favourite types? Not enough Electrics? Great Fire types? Too many Dragons? What are your thoughts on each type?

I love how many Fighting types there are in B/W~ I can't really name any that I don't like... except for the Fighting trio and the My Little Pony legendary. T_T

My favorite combo would definitely be Zuruggu and Zuruzukin being Dark/Fighting.
Not just because they're some of my favorite 5th generation Pokemon, but the fact that they're like, the only Fighting types with a resistance to Psychic type moves. <3

Hah, that's the good thing, IMO. xD
I LOVE Fighting types. But the strange thing about this generation is that there's nowhere near as many Water types as the other generations. O_O I have a hard time thinking of my teams (even though I have a whole half a year left to think about them x3) because I always need a Water type so I can Surf... and now apparently Dive (so glad they brought that back).

EDIT: And I won't even evolve my Pokabu so I can save space for a better Fighting type (not talking about move-pool and stats wise T_T).

the only decent one i can see besides the starter is the water/ghost and i dont know how that holds up in battle yet

I like the bugs in this generation: Futsude (my favourite one =3),Hoiiga,Pendora,Kurumiru and Hahakurimo. They have useful movesets and great design.
I'm dissapointed with water-types. There are only 3 "common" ones: Mamanbou,Pururiru and Burunkeru. They all have bad designs for me. :/ This is similiar of Sinnoh's pitiful number of fire-types.
About the starters typing,i'm dissapointed too. Jaroda could easily be Grass/Poison or Grass/Dragon,and Daikenki could be Water/Fighting or Water/Psychic.
Emboar is the THIRD Fire/Fighting in row. He's not very pretty too.
Florges
It's a forest guardian that pities how bad a type Grass is, so it gets moves to help out Grass-types, but is smart enough not to be Grass-type itself. The appearance is simply mimicry to hide from humans.

NOT ENOUGH LIGHT-TYPES! NEED MOAR!!!
:rambo:

I also dislike Daikenki's lack of Fighting-type (it's a freaking samurai! Albeit awkwardly built...), and Jaroda's lack of Dragon-type.

Although in retrospect, having a Grass/Dragon Jaroda with the Contrarian/Perversity ability along with Leaf Storm and Draco Meteor would have been an utter nightmare to face. At least Jaroda receives the (underpowered) move Dragon Tail, to reference the "Dragon" type in spirit. I don't know why it was stiffed of Dragon Pulse in its moveset, though...

Finally, a Bug/Fire type.

This makes my life complete.

Why does everyone think Jaroda should be Dragon Type? I do not. It's the same theory with Charizard, it looks like a Dragon, it should be Dragon type. Nope. Makes the game way too easy, and it's supposed to be in tandem with the other starters, not overpower them.

Rant over, I was pleased with the increase of Fire types. Back in Platinum, we had to use Fire types from previous generations just so Flint could have a set of 5. Not good.

The Ground type also got a few new combinations, but one is kinda...what are they on? Electric/Ground? Oh no no no.

I was very happy to see some unique Ghost combinations too. All in all, a good generation, even if some types were lacking a bit.
I'll have a signature that's both witty and within the rules when I get reacquainted with Pokécommunity.

Too many fighting, grass, and water types. Not enough good ones. Fighting types are a personal favorite of mine but in all honesty, BW's fighting types are not very good. The same can be said about water and grass.

Fire types are incredibly overpowered in this game. Base attack and special attack have shot way up in BW. Before gen 5, base 125 would have been considered massive for attack/special. But fire types, not even including Reshiram are hitting 140+. On top of that, a crapload of fire type moves have been introduced, including a fire type zap cannon with 100% chance on inflicting burn if it hits. Water and grass are simply left in the dust.

There is a lot more variety in dual typing which is a great thing. Bug+fire/electric and ground+ghost/electric, along with a lot of other odd mixes. It's generally not too hard to cover most of the types with a single party of 6 now. The starters are pretty boring though. When will we ever see something crazy come out of the starters? *sigh*

Don't know if this is where this belongs, but did the change the weaknesses/resistances of types? Because I was looking at Pokabu's final evo's bulbapedia page and it said its only weakness was water... and its fire/fighting
I'm sure it's just a bug. They haven't changed typing mechanics, so no worries, it's still weak to Ground, Flying and Psychic, not just Water. Actually I cannot think of any Fire typing combo that would result in just weak to Water...

I like the Electric/Ground typing its cool, but the fact that it is a fish and not water type is weird...

I love the typing of Gen V, but most of the Pokemon make me want to rip my eyes out of my sockets...

Water is my favorite type, but I'm kind of glad there weren't too many water types this gen; water doesn't really need more types... (instead it gets the awesome new move Boiling Water)

I loved the ghost types of this generation though, especially Burunkeru and Shanderaa. Unique typing coupled with blank, semi-creepy stares. The chandelier reminds me of both a drifloon and a heartless (and according to its pokedex entry, it's as evil as one too!)

Also, Frost Rotom became STAB boltbeam! Yay!

I was happy that the type combinations that I wanted were included in the final production. They happen to be:
-Dark/Dragon (I was hoping for this ever since the speculations started)
-Fire/Ghost (I was expecting the Hinotama, but the candle/lamp/chandelier Pokemon are cool, too)
-Water/Ghost (I was surprised that they turned out to be the Isshu counterparts to Tentacool and Tentacruel)
-Bug/Fire (and it's a moth, too)

I was disappointed that Emboar was a Fire/Fighting starter again (it should've been Fire/Dark). I also would've liked Jaroda to be a Grass/Dragon type as well.

I'm happy there were more ghost pokemon this gen, and some other typings like dark/dragon, bug/electric, and others like fire ghosts, and water ghosts.

I like most of the typings, actually. For one, Denchura, bug/electric, is awesome, since for some reason it really does make sense, and then you wonder whyyyy it hasn't been brought in earlier. XD;

As for the ghosts, pretty good that there's a few more. Disappointed with lack of ice types, though. And pure flying would have been better on something better than a genie, tbh. Aaand, Emboar (I still don't like how this is a confirmed name XD;) being fighting/fire isn't that bad to me, but I'd rather if Futachimaru/Daikenki had it, which makes a lot more sense. Other than that, the other typings don't interest me as much.

Just like Forever, I like the combination of Bug/Electric.
I also like the Dragon/Dark Pokemon, the one with 3 heads and 6 wings :P
What else do I like?
Hmm... Reshiram's typing (Dragon/Fire) and the three candle Pokemon's typing (Fire/Ghost) and the light blue jellyfish (Water/Ghost). Also, Normal/Grass.

That's pretty much it.

I love the new Bug/Fire typing. I have found a new love for: because of its powerfulness and powerhouse typing. Bug/Fire FTW!! Its only major weakness is rock and water, and flying. Just 3 types! And it is super effective against 5 types.
