Not global warming, but how pollution affects you.

Where I live, the air quality isn't the best in the world (lots of forest fires, and at the bottom of a valley) but it's a fairly small city, so it's really not that bad. When I went to Seattle this year, the pollution was so bad (and I don't think it's even really that bad there) that my lungs started burning really intensely when I went outside/was on the highway (freeway?). It was pretty bad.

Have you ever noticed anything like this/do you live in a heavily polluted area?

Lucky for me I live in a suburb in Melbourne (Australia, Victoria.) where most of the bush vibe still remains in the ways of the gum trees and old tracks. I don't live ni the country but, I don't live close to the city. The air is relatively fresh and cooll escpecially when it rains. However, just down a few kilometres there's tons of factories that release tons of smoke! When my mum or dad takes a short cut down the road near the factories I stare at the smoke with disgust. The only time I think the air wasn't fresh was when our nextdoor neighbours, where "burning off" and they must've been burning something dead because it smelt horrid! D:

Seeing as I live in a relatively industrial part of a large metropolitan city, I'm fairly certain that the air quality here is less than spectacular, but I've noticed no major effects on my health.

I've been told though that people born and raised in highly polluted regions will adapt and evolve an immunity to common pollutants, making them more able to live in polluted areas than people that were raised in the country. I'm not sure exactly how much of that is true though... :/

I don't think I've ever been personally affected by pollution, no. Then again I grew up breathing in cigarette smoke like it was oxygen so I might just be desensitized to that sort of thing. xD I do make regular trips into NYC, and the air does seem a lot dirtier there than here in the suburbs, but... it's the city, I really can't imagine it any other way.

well dude i think not an individual affected by pollution its the whole world who suffer it.
Well we're talking about how pollution effects each one of us individually not as a whole.

It is always polluted and nobody gives a damn in my country, however, where I live, far from the pollution, I am not really affected by it. The city I live in isn't big at all, so one day, pollution will knock on my door.
Really!? D: Where do you live? I'd care. Some people just don't realise the seriousness of pollution and how sevre it's consequences are.

I live near a coastal area. And the water is really... murky and dirty looking. It's not blue at all, it's more of a light brown-ish colour. There is a shipyard place near where I live, and it's really industrial so oil and stuff could maybe spill into the water as boats pass by with cargo on them? Another thing is that there is a huge chimney/factory here aswell. And ironically enough, the chimney is shaped and coloured like cigarettes are.. and it let off a LOT of smoke. I have no idea how the people in the small town that live right below it manage to live with a chimney behind them..

In my city I've really never been in a situation where it ruins my health, are city is fresh and the air is clean usually, expect when there are like wild fires a little farther away, sometimes it will affect the whole city with smoke and ashes, it's not fun, are water is pretty clean by our main beach, however I can't say it's that good haven't visited there in quite a while. I hear around Los Angeles it has one the worst air to breath in, I do want to visit there one day, and hope it doesn't turn out to be a bad visit, since my asthma can affect my breathing.

Los Angeles is pretty bad. Last time I was there you couldn't see the stars at night because of the haze.

Where I am it's pretty clean. You can breathe the air and if you want to take a small drive to the ocean you can swim there without worrying about the water. California in general seems pretty good about keeping pollution down (bunch of hippies that we are) with only LA and a couple other areas as exceptions. I feel like pollution doesn't have much impact on my health and I'm glad for it.

Dudes, I live in Africa. Pollution is part of the environment :/ In the streets you see plastics bags everywhere. I wish I could clean up the city, even on my own if I had to. The skies are pretty clear though. It's just all this trash around the city.

Australia isn't too bad. We have a major problem with gum though..
Gum is a sort of pollution, no? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Where I live, pollution is a moderately big issue, though there are trees everywhere in the environment and the surroundings are pretty natural too. I see rubbish on the streets on my way back from school. It's pretty sad actually. And the river beds are polluted with plastic. On a positive note, the air is pretty clean and fresh, since there aren't any industries or pollutants nearby.

I'm not aware of any major effects that pollution has had on me, and the air is pretty nice. So..no, I hope not.

I'd imagine it is? I mean, why wouldn't it be?

My economics teacher said that we have the cleanest water in the entire country. (yay!) Not sure if it's true though, and I couldn't find any way to check online, so I'll just have to hope he's right lol.

And I sort of built up a habit of holding my breath when I'm walking by cars, and breathing in the exhaust, so even though the forest fires sort of ruin things here in the summer, overall I'd say I'm in pretty good shape.

Well the sea where I live is pretty polluted, due to some old factories nearby.
People still swim in it, but I try to avoid it as much as possible...

Aaah, pollution. One of the reasons why I love living in the countryside. So, I'm living in a small village in central Germany (insert nazi joke somewhere here) near a river and between two forests. The air is wonderful here. The river used to be heavily polluted, but now, over 20 years after the collapse of the German Democratic Republic (they were responsible for it), it's nice and clean again.
It's not everywhere that nice though. 30 km away, in the nearest bigger city (~200k inh., so not even that big), the air is terrible. Cars everywhere (well, I like cars, but not that many), it's noisy, people are hasty... I dislike cities.

...but didn't he also say that legalizing marijuana would ruin the economy - his own subject? D:

Well the water up in Ontario isn't bad, we get it from the clean Great Lakes, i.e. not Erie or Ontario. Though where I am now they put a, to me, ton of fluoride/chloride/other stuff in the water that can't be good for you in this amount.

Toronto isn't horrible from what I can remember, though it could be better.

I live in a place somewhere most people walk and cars are used when you need to get somewhere fast or shopping. Fresh air!

By the way, I'm reading a book on a post-oil future called "Ship Breaker" by Paolo Bacigualupi, and I think it describes the post-oil world very well! If we don't do anything, things would be......bad.

Where I live isn't too bad, despite it being a major city. You would think the exhaust fumes from all the traffic would adversely affect my allergies, but (sinus-wise) they're actually worse where my parents live (which is out in the country).

Littering is a pretty big issue around here, though.
