This thread is mainly aimed to the PC Supporters of this place. You know, those people with the sexy blue usernames? Well, I'm sure that a few of you gave your money for the perks of being blue and awesome, such as blogs, or a bigger avatar or larger PM storage. I want to ask this question to you guys, have you ever felt that you found the spending of that money a waste of time? Would you want you money back, and go back to being regular member? Discuss!

I don't think PC gives refunds...

Also, a side question for those who aren't blue and amazing, would you WANT to donate money, and if so, why?
he did it, not me.

I am not blue, but I am amazing.

I do want one of the blue names, unfortunately my parents won't let me to what I know of, because every time I pop up that I want to donate they go "Yeaah, whatever, Chris" and leave it at that. But I do want to donate because the fact that I believe that if I'm going to stay on this website, I would like to give all my support to the people who look after the place for giving me a wonderful forum to explore around. All their hard work deserves my money.

I didn't donate for any particular perks...I donated just because it was the most convenient way for me to help the community that I loved so dearly and consider my internet "home." ^_^

So no, I wouldn't want a refund because I don;t feel like I bought anything, and I'm certainly not disappointed in the perks I did get. XD

I do want to donate to PC, despite the fact that I'm not amazing xD
I want to donate to PC because I think, the people that have let me have such a wonderful time here, deserve something in return. However, when I bring it up with mes parents, they always say, nah, well, how do you know that you're sending it to PC? So It looks like I'll have to send it by Snail Mail @[email protected]

I donated, before you wonder why I don't have a badge, I chose to not have it since it interferes with my lovely s-mod badge. I'm going to answer all the questions asked, promise!

You know, those people with the sexy blue usernames? The moderators? Yeah, I know them. They're all a bunch of power hungry hypocrites if you ask me. I don't find the supporter color sexy at all, even though I voted in favor of the color change. I think pink is a lot better suited for them, personally.
Well, I'm sure that a few of you gave your money for the perks of being blue and awesome, such as blogs, or a bigger avatar or larger PM storage. Not gonna lie, but I donated for the perks.
Have you ever felt that you found the spending of that money a waste of time? Yes, especially considering I made the staff and didn't need to spend the money on donating it. I donated for two others as well.
Would you want you money back, and go back to being regular member? I would gladly take away the supporter status of the members I donated for in a heartbeat if I could, just because they're all staff members as it is and really have no need for it anymore (one of them's on a DLoA, though, so I may seek to do just that). I did kind of take back my supporter status by transferring it over to an alt account I have for the sake of actually using the account. But if I wasn't a staff member, I wouldn't want to go back to being a regular member just for the sake of standing out... which was one of the main reasons I donated to begin with, aside from the ad-free browsing.

I sometimes wonder "what did I donate for again" whenever a database error occurs. lawl

Oh well, PC donating means more to me than to the average member, I guess. Donating is more of a friendly thing. A good friend donated $10 to my account. Then, I donated $10 to another good friend's account. We gifted each other without the hassle of buying a present, mailing it, blah blah. Either way, we can show off our names and say hey, someone cares about me! Shame the other 2 are inactive. They're like siblings to me. :(

Oh, he donated for me because I (was not mod and) kept crying for the perks like secret forums and blogs. Alas, supporters know how meh those can be. XD

In short, I desire no refund.

I donated to be a Tier 1 for the blue username in March, then a few days ago a good friend of mine donated for me and made me a Tier 4. :D I'm happy she did, 'cause I can finally have a larger avatar and larger PM space. I don't think a refund is really that necessary. xD

PC was the first Pokemon forum where people weren't treating me like a second-class citizen, so I was happy to donate. The perks are just welcome extras.
Have you ever felt that you found the spending of that money a waste of time?
No, never.
Would you want you money back, and go back to being regular member?
I've gotten so used to being a supporter that I couldn't imagine going back now.

Even though being blue and amazing sounds really tempting I'm perfectly happy being whatever random color each theme makes me and boring. :D

To be honest though I haven't donated because there really aren't any perks of being a supporter that interests me. I suppose a blog would be nice, but I have no idea what I would write about. The only other thing that is slightly tempting is being able to have a larger avatar, but I can live without it. Plus I don't have any money that I'm willing to spare with at the moment. I'm also not a fan of italicized blue.

Well the perks aren't anything to gush over for me personally, but I did think it'd be nice to have more control over my profile's appearance (I didn't even consider the blog until a month or so ago). That was part of why I donated the first time last year, but the other part was that I'd been a part of PC so long I felt I kind of owed it something for being such a nice hangout.

Just recently I bumped it up with another 5 bucks so now I guess I can have a bigger avatar, but I haven't bothered with it yet. I guess I mostly just felt like 'Hey, I've got a few more dollars I can spare to PC' and that was that.

No, I don't want to take back the 15 bucks. It's not much in the long run and PC's worth it to me anyway :3

I like the blue. I'm glad it isn't pink.

I ADDED UP ALL THE AMOUNTS.

It's freaking ridiculous.. and PC still gets DB errors?

YOU WOULD'VE THOUGHT THAT $6628.80 WOULD'VE DONE AT LEAST -SOMETHING- WITH THE DB

>___> That's a LOT of money.. Like.. an insane amount.. and it's not even to a good cause.

I would never be a "supporter" and I would rather give my money to people who I know actually need it to live.
My grandmother had a stroke a while ago.. and it costs her $2200 roughly a year just for DIAPERS for my grandmother. But what are we going to do? Let her sit in her own excrement? I'm not saying give the money here or anything.. but there are people out there who find a lot more MEANING to all that money.

>_> It's ridiculous.

That's why I donated for an alt. :>

100KB avatar leads to fun gif shenanigans. Having the blog lying around is nice too.
I want to ask this question to you guys, have you ever felt that you found the spending of that money a waste of time?
The money I donated was birthday money, and I'm not a man bent up on wants (everything I want is more expensive than what I have anyway), so I have no regrets.
Would you want you money back, and go back to being regular member? Discuss!
What would I do with $15 of credit anyway? Also, alt etc. :<

Being a person with a sexy italicized blue user name, I can say that my $15 was well worth it, and I'm glad I donated. It's the least I could do to repay this place for the year and a half of awesome I've been given. Itn was the right thing to do.

I'm one of the few supporters that can authentically say "I'm a 'Original' Supporter" who donated way back when the only real perk was a green italicized username. Back then that's all the perks anyone got. Naturally as the donor system flourished, I donated again to make T5, mainly because I felt the community was making progress in giving a few more perks to the donors.

Naturally any donation I give is a heartfelt contribution to the community. The perks that come along are merely a nice bonus.

...yeah basically, Nick donated for me nearly 2 years ago. If he chose to take away the supporter status, then that's his choice, just would mean that the VIP forum would be more dead, lol. Oh and I like larger avatar--wait do staff have 150? /is unaware of staff & supporter perks. Even still, if Nick took it away, then I guess I'd get over it. It was such a surprise back then, totally didn't expect it. XD

In conclusion, I can't really fully answer this, considering I didn't donate, but yeah being just a supporter for almost two years of my PC life was fun - I just wish i didn't ask for perks so often and gave supporters a bad name. Oh well, the past is the past.

Well, to be honest; I don't find them very appealing. I'd much rather have gotten the pink usernames, but I guess some guys are just too scared to be anything slightly feminine???

Well, I'm sure that a few of you gave your money for the perks of being blue and awesome, such as blogs, or a bigger avatar or larger PM storage.

I never actually donated for myself, lol. I got donated to Tier 3 by Charliezard in May (I think?) last year and I can't for the life of me remember who bumped me up to Tier 4. I guess I could say I'm a GOLDIGGER. But before I did get donated for, I was trying to do so anyway, though I remember clearly it was only for the perks. I think that still stays true today, I'd really only donate for the perks than for the good of the community. I'm selfish, judge me.

I want to ask this question to you guys, have you ever felt that you found the spending of that money a waste of time?

I'm sure that the people who donated for me wouldn't hesitate to take back their donations, for they'd probably say I was an embarrassment (lol). I can't say it was a waste of time, as I got everything for free. ^.^

Would you want you money back, and go back to being regular member?

I'd stay as a supporter, as I enjoy the perks (except the VIP Forum aka The Wastelands) that come with it. There's no point for me to step down as a supporter, as it would just be money gone to waste.

I only donated because I had some money one my pre-paid Visa, but it wasn't enough to actually buy anything on the internet so I just gave it to PC before it expired. I'll admit that having a blue name is pretty awesome but I like the purple that Rukario has more.

Recently I discovered that I donated a total of $164 to PC, of course the currency I'm most accustomed with being the sterling, I'm sure you can reduce the numeric value considerably. Do I regret donating this amount? No, I absolutely do not, and I will very well tell you why.

It is because PC has made a great impact on me as a person and I wouldn't mind giving back to the community that has helped me shape who I am. I'll also admit, I am a sucker for perks, but at the same time I do this with the thought that I'm paying back the debt that I feel I owe to this community. That is my biggest reason for donating at all to the forum.

Another reason being that Steve struggles enough to try and keep PC afoot, what with the server experiencing its occasional hiccups and how much of a struggle it is to maintain it, not just that, the cost of hosting the server every month for the site is...quite much, it helps that people are donating more nowadays than in the past where there were only so few italicised names, because at that point I do get the feeling he struggled more with costs than he did now, so kudos to anybody who has at one point donated and in turn helped him out.

Recently I donated for another member, while she may not be named (and some of you already know who she is anyway) ...the reason I did do this for her was so she could be happy, she's a very close friend of mine and I know being able to bump her up the supporter tier ranks would enable her to make use of something she's been wanting to for the longest time. No, I don't regret doing this for another person, and no, I wasn't actually going to tell her that I donated for her, because it really isn't about the person who donated for them, it's what that person can do with their new found perks that really matters.

So all in all, I regret nothing. PC has been such a big influence to my life in general and I feel as though I've done enough to really support the community and its host, knowing I did something to help keep the place up and running does make me feel warm inside.

Well, I totally regret some of my last donation where a few admins pooled together a bit of money to go toward the license for vB4 and then we decided it was fugly and didn't want to switch to it. So that kind of went toward nothing . :P But overall, nah, I don't regret it. I've been here forever and I don't mind helping the place that's been an internet "home" for me stay afloat and all that.
I ADDED UP ALL THE AMOUNTS.

It's freaking ridiculous.. and PC still gets DB errors?

Let's bump that up to $7k. Divide that by 12 to find the amount per year and you get about $583. Divide that again by the number of years PC has accepted donations (I'm using 4 but I think we've accepted longer than that) and you get under $150 a month. Consider that the cheapest dedicated servers are at least $150 (the "low-end" ones) and the supporter income is not a ridiculous amount. It's under the mark. Last I knew, the server PC is on costs just under $400/month (plus any overage) for bandwidth. :/ Ads and income from all the sites on the server (I think Steve hosts a few of his things here too) barely cover the rest of the cost. For some reason people seem to think that if we ever upgrade our server it's a one-time cost so a mukload of donations in one month would have us set until the next time we need to upgrade but it's not--if we upgrade, we'd have to keep paying the higher monthly price and the extra $100 that we definitely don't have every month now would have to be paid out of Steve (or other admins') own pockets.

I'm not saying donating to PC is the ~absolute best way ever~ to spend money, and yes there are definitely morally better causes to donate or pool money toward. I'm not gonna argue that, but I am arguing how you imply we should have upgraded to a way better server by now. :( It's not just feasible and tbh, the one we're on now has worked fairly well for us over the last year, give or take a few days of ridiculously high traffic. (Well, that and the name change thing. D:)

But... the advertisements. ;____;
That says it all for me, honestly. So if I donate to PC, I help it out, get perks... NO TOP ADVERTISEMENTS?! HECK YEAH SEAKING!

It's really not a waste of my money. In fact, I have to donate again, my money's piling up with nothing for me to spend it on at the moment >__> The problem is convincing my parents. It's always been that. "That money could go to the children in Africa!" Well, $20 is not going to buy a crumb of anything to the all children of Africa. It's my damn money and I'll spend it how I want.
