More like Dance of the Loli Nude.

No rly, you see her nude. I stopped there.
But she's completely legal... age wise. But I too would probably stop there.

Yay, longer preview for the first episode actually aired~

Oh how not having a computer at the moment has bogged down my watching of stuff. I need to catch up on so much when I get my new desktop built, too bad I don't have marathon time as often as I wish I did these days. D:

That...is still pretty strange either way.
I know they try to make it seem less absurd by saying the loli has been alive for however many centuries, but it's always been a pretty flimsy excuse to me for people to ogle prepubescent bodies.

Allow me to play devil's advocate for a moment here and say that there are legitimate medical conditions that can cause people above the age of majority to still resemble lolis and shotas. Still pretty damn squicky, but there is an actual basis in reality, even if it is exaggerated considerably.

But really, you sound like an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. (On that downright weird note, I think Mariska Hargitay could pass as Meiko [which would probably make Christopher Meloni Kaito], but that really isn't here or there. And now I'm imagining the SVU cast as Vocaloids. Great.)

For some reason I doubt that the prevalence of loli bodies in the last decade of anime is anything but playing upon a fetish. Frankly, I think it's downright delusional to believe there is anything else at all playing into it. Either the "little sister" type or just the general sexualization of suggestive material that comes with the territory appeals to a large enough crowd that it's marketable as something that's done more than a couple of times every now and then.

That's not to say it makes any show with that element bad by default, but it's there for a reason.

Like I said earlier, I was just playing devil's advocate for a moment there. I actually threw out one of the more esoteric justifications for having loli bodies. Most folks would just handwave things away with magic or advanced technology or whatever, but yeah, for the most part, it's just playing to the fetishes. Even if there are perfectly logical in-universe justifications, it still doesn't make things any less squicky out of universe.

But really, you did come off as sounding a bit like a sane and reasonable version of Elliot Stabler. Why I spent my weekend watching SVU reruns instead of, say, marathoning Steins;Gate, starting on Mawaru Penguindrum, or finally working up the effort to finish Madoka Magica, I'll never really know; that's just the way things went. Probably goes to show just how ultimately disinterested I am in the current anime scene.

(I still think Mariska Hargitay looks like Meiko, by the way.)

People still watch Law & Order? Then again, new Hoarders shows are made like... annually, so I guess people will watch anything these days. Not that it's uncharacteristic of most anime fans as well... I don't know, I think the anime scene this year has been a lot stronger than it has the last couple of years. 2009 and 2010 created very little in terms of memorable series in my opinion, but I've seen a few this year that have given me a lasting impression.

Moving on to less serious and better things...

I will miss my Nichijou Saturdays and Hanasaku Iroha Sundays. ;.;

I will probably miss Nichijou most, Usagi Drop director helped me get over losing that by throwing in a crappy ending.

Next season I'm going to try and not pick up so many and actually get through Sakura as well as getting up to date on Gintama and Wan Piisu.

Interesting that you mention that. Here's a report on Japanese animation market trends, courtesy of ANN. The market's clearly recovering from the bust of 2007-2008, though much of that recovery is more due to the influence of theatrical releases than anything else. The number of television anime is still decreasing, not like that actually means much. One can only hope that the corporations have learned from this experience, though I wouldn't bet on it too much. I wonder what fad will oversaturate the market next.

This year has certainly been the best since 2007, but that's not really saying a lot.

The next trend, probably not the best thing to put my money on but I can hope for a cyberpunk revival can't I.

Edit - Yey, Squiddy season 2 started really nicely.

2009 and 2010 created very little in terms of memorable series in my opinion
2009:
Sora no Otoshimono
Clannad: After Story (Started at the end of 2008, but the bulk of the eps were in 2009, so take your pick on this one)
Toradora! (Same as Clannad)
K-ON!
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

2010:
To Aru Kagaku no Railgun (Started at the end of 2009)
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu
Durarara!!
Angel Beats!
WORKING!!
K-ON!!
Sora no Otoshimono Forte (Started at the end of 2010)
STAR DRIVER (Started at the end of 2010)
Ore no Imouto
Otome Youkai Zakuro

And there's some others.
I'm not saying that 2009/10 was more or less memorable then 2011. But them two years had some really really good series and to dismiss them like that...

I like how you're grouping the entire series into one year like that. Like the Strike Witches OVA (in which Strike Witches wasn't all that good either), Shana II wasn't that good, The fist two Kara no Kyoukai don't have as much impact as the rest, etc.

Also, I can easily generate a list that big of good anime from 2008-2010 (each) given a list of stuff that aired. It's not really that hard.

Also the Touch DVD box set came out late 2005, watch me call the curve there being people buying the Touch Box set XD

Took another look at this years shows and imo it's actually not a lot stronger than the last few, the only real standout show has been Penguindrum and that might fall flat on it's face in weeks to come. Of course we have titles like Guilty Crown and Mirai Nikki to come but it doesn't look like it'll be better than 03 - 07, meh.

And for 08 and 09 I couldn't.

Digi has a new theme OMG!
Had to get that out there. XD

As for Penguindrum being the only stand out series this year? Really?... I don't know what to say... I'm speechless.

No faith in the guy that directed Utena. For shame

At the same time, look at how many shows there were airing along with them. The saturation of good shows is without a doubt better. As for 2011, here's my list currently (including prospective, not including stuff I watched and liked, but nearly no one else watched, or stuff I haven't finished)
Madoka Magica
Gosick
Cardfight Vanguard (My biased inclusion)
Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka?
Tiger & Bunny
Nichijou
Hanasaku Iroha
Steins;Gate
A Channel
Control
Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai
Denpa Onna
Ao no Exorcist
Ikoku Meiru no Croisee
Usagi Drop
Penguin Drum
Guilty Crown
fate/zero
Persona 4
Mirai Nikki
Gundam AGE
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (very debatable)

And then to prove a point and back up my statement. At the very least, all the shows noted are worth looking at. (Besides Strike Witches. That's just there cuz -Lapras- put the series into the 2007 slot)
2008:
Spice and Wolf
ARIA the Origination
Chii's Sweet Home
Allison and Lillia
Macross Frontier
kure-nai
Itazura na Kiss
Daughter of 20 Faces
Kyouran Kazoku Nikki
(actual) Strike Witches
Natsume Yuujinchou
Eve no Jikan
ToraDora!
Casshern SINS
CLANNAD After Story
Tentai Senshi Sunred
Kannagi
To Aru Majutsu no Index
ga-rei Zero
ef ~A Tale of Melodies

2009:
White Album
Hetalia (regardless of my thoughts of it, the fandom is obviously there)
Sengoku BASARA
K-On!
Phantom
Valkyria Chronicles
FMA Brotherhood
Natsu no Arashi
Eden of the East
NEEDLESS
Bakemonogatari
CANAAN
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
Railgun
Sora no Otoshimono
Kobato
Kimi no Todoke
Sasameki Koto
Fairy Tail

Ok, Penguindrum and Usagi Drop are the only real stand out shows so far this year. Madoka, Steins;Gate, Squiddy and Mardock Scramble were close as well.

As for your lists I only really loved Tokyo Magnitude, Clannad, Spicy Wolf, Bakemono and the ones from this year I mentioned above. I'm yet to watch a lot mind.

Baccano!, TTGL, Moyasimon, Higurashi, SZS from 2007 all scored 8 or 9/10 with me and well, nothing has so far this year.

On the exceptionally good, my 2011 list becomes Madoka, Vanguard, Tiger & Bunny, Steins;Gate, Flowers, Usagi, Penguin, with high hopes on Guilty Crown, fate/zero and Mirai Nikki. Trails in the Sky I want to be good, but don't think it'll end up being so. Gundam Age is the initial "lol Inazuma Eleven characters are dying" feeling XD persona 4 i have the hope for a good translation over to anime

I'm generally a lot more lenient on my rankings. I really need to go into my list someday and rerank everything sometime, get that Gaussian curve going.

Still calling an underestimation of 2009, but that's me knowing that absolutely no one here has watched/will watch Cross Game, watched Summer Wars until recently, counts Eden of the East complete due to Paradise Lost apparently not having been subbed, rant rant rant, rage rage rage, etc.

So Kamisama Dolls... looks like we're getting a movie or a second season or something? The last bit of the last episode made no real sense to me. XD

Yea I see Kamisama Dolls getting a movie. Because I think they were pretty much at the end and could have finished things with 2 or so more eps.
Overall I liked the series, nothing mind blowing or anything like that. But it's one of the shows I wanted to watch right away when I downloaded it every week.

Know what else doesn't make sense? Blood-C. OMG that show is messed up. I swear they all got together and said "Lets make a show. It's going to be about blood, gore, blood, and clueless stupid people with no common sense." and then wrote a story based around the blood to go along with the blood.
