The PokeDex in both the anime and the games tell us all sort of things of a Pokemon once you've seen it in the anime or captured it in the games. What puzzles me is that its you what kind of Pokemon it is like Chimchar being a Chimp Pokemon. Are the trainers gonna know what a chimp is if there are no chimps in the pokemon world? So I ask you is this evidence for real animals or the pokedex is just messed up?

Think of it this way.
What we know as a chimp, we know because we are told that is what it is.
We take that knowledge for granted, because somewhere else has said that that is what it is.
When the pokedex says Chimchar is a chimp pokemon, that is the expert telling someone who doesn't know what the creature is.
If that makes sense. If not, I'll try and make it clearer somehow haha.
I can feel your fever, taking over me.

Haha, that's a good question. I don't think it's that Chimchar is based on a chimp itself, but more that it *is* a chimp. Animals don't exist in the Pokémon world (for the most part...?) so Pokémon themselves take their place. Basically, this would mean that the word "chimp" was coined exclusively for Chimchar, possibly using the first three letters of its name.

This is what I was getting at.
Much better wording than what I went with though ;]

I figured. It is a hard theory to explain, but it does make sense. xD
Of course, I wouldn't put it past the Pokédex just being "messed up," seeing as how it's already pretty complicated.

I think the Pokedex makes reference to real life animals when it comes to naming their species. However, some of the entries defy real life (such as the picture mentioned in an earlier post). Overall, the Dex is a bit messed up, IMO.

It's to tell us real-world denizens what it is based on.
As for these descriptions being given in the anime, well, translating concepts of understanding between a fictional reality and our own requires either gratuitous explanation (better not done when the makers only have a 25 minute timeslot per episode) or for apparent holes in the logic of the fictional work to appear. Most fans of any thing don't generally want to read into such explanations.

The pokedex is messed up on a lot of things. Chimchar being a chimp pokemon is one of them especially when real-life chimps don't have tails. It also says that when Entei roars, a volcano will erupt and other silly things.

Chimps also don't have their heads on fire either....
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Don't forget that every time a volcano erupts, an Entei is born.
