I was actually thinking of doing this challenge, and then I realized all the Pokemon that I wanted to go for a Poison monotype challenge with this. I'm not sure this is allowed, but there are 6 specific Pokemon that I've always wanted to use. The reason I want to do a mono on this thread and not the other one is the extra challenges I want to include here.

Name: Blitz
Game: All (Fire Red, Heart Gold, Emerald, Platinum, White)
List of Pokemon that got away: Beedrill, Nidoking, Vileplume, Gengar, Tentacruel, and Crobat
Number required: 6
Any specific requirements: I'm not starting with fully evolved forms, I will start off with the base forms of each.

Again, if this is not allowed and I have to pick from a wider range of Pokemon then I'll do so.

Take Dunsparce, Larvitar, Cloyster, Marowak, and Noctowl.

In other news, I'm putting my challenge on hold, SS is really slow and annoying, and I'm not enjoying it as much as the other challenges I'm doing. Hopefully I can get around to finishing it eventually.

For future reference, my team is Wailord, Aerodactyl, Froslass, Pachirisu, Hitmonchan, and Granbull.

Seems reasonable to me, if those are the Pokemon you've always wanted to raise, then those are your Ones that Got Away. Go for it!

Added you and pkfire0 to the Challengers list. And The Sceptile King.

Sorry to hear your challenge isn't going too well jdthebud - hopefully you'll get round to it eventually :)

Freakin' sweet man, thanks! I'll start right now.

Spoiler:
I can't tell you how awesome poison Pokemon are. With deadly tactics, they take down any opponent. Well that's just what I'm gonna use. All I will use are poison type Pokemon and none others.

My name, by the way, is Blitz. Skip all the whole select your first Pokemon and first rival battle and the Pokedex. No, I'm going straight to when I caught the first Pokemon to kick off this poison mono run. "Just a Weedle huh? You look pretty wimpy to me." "Grr, that's no way to greet your new teammate huh?!", retorted the Weedle in his most disdainful voice. "Geez, you're a scary one aren't you? I'm gonna call you Wade." "Ah, who am I kidding? I've never been able to live up to anyone's standards... I wanted to be useful and fight when all those fire Pokemon burnt my old home forest down... Hey you there! I don't care who, what, where, or when it is, but if there's ever a fire type Pokemon, I'm going to be the one to take it down and no one's gonna stop me!" "All right, all right, whatever you want to do."

After a little bit of training, Wade evolves into a Kakuna! "All right, so what are we taking on next?" "How about you look over here for the answer?" The one who answered that question was my rival, Cedric. He's always thought he was better than me. Well we're gonna show him this time! "What did you say?! Are you challenging me?!", shouts Wade. "Hahahahaha! You've gotta be kidding me, a Kakuna? What's a Kakuna gonna do, Harden-stall me to death?", laughs Cedric arrogantly. I reply ,"Oh, Wade's gonna do a lot more than that." Cedric sends out his recently caught Pidgey. They were so sure they could win that fight. Boy, he couldn't have been any more wrong. "Yeah, Harden-stall! Well I just took down your Pidgey, no Harden included!" Don't say it, Wade gets hot-headed a lot. It's just the way he is. "Oh, so you think you're all that huh? Well let's see how well you do against a fire type?" "A... fire type?" Just then Cedric sent out his Chardmander; big mistake on his part. Needless to say, Charmander's probably going to have a leg and arm splint for a few days.

Team:
Spoiler:
Wade the Kakuna
-Poison Sting
-String Shot
-Harden
Extra Challenge: Must fight any fire types until it faints or he faints.

Extremely hot-headed to the point it's almost demonic, which shows especially when he fights fire types. As said before, they burned his old forest down so there's not much of a good track record with him and fire types, so to speak.

Yeah, that's the first part of my little run here. I'll post another part of it shortly.

Edit: Dude, I am so pumped right now. I just beat the gym leader Brock with a BEEDRILL. Poison Sting, String Shot, Harden, and Fury Attack.

Spoiler:
"Wade, was that necessary? You didn't have to beat his Charmander that bad." "I... I'm sorry. I've got an anger issue and I know it. I wish I could control it better than I do now, but it's just so hard to keep it down." "Listen, you don't have to do this alone. I'm here to help you, and you'll have many other friends that will help. Don't be the loner just because you get a bit angry." "Th... thanks Blitz. I'd like that."

So then we went through Viridian Forest, just me and Wade. He evolved halfway through and became beastly. But then, once we left the forest, our real problem started. "A ROCK type gym?! Like, as in Geodude and Onix?! They're part ground type and all I've got is Poison Sting and Fury Attack! I can't do this alone man, you've gotta get some backup for me." "No. The rules are sacred and I cannot break them. If we're ever going to get anywhere, we need to be strong. You can do this." "...Yeah. You're right! I'm going to take on this gym alone! I can do this!"

"That's kind of funny, you've got only a Beedrill. In case you didn't know, this is a rock type gym. There's not much you can do here. Go Geodude!" It was more a battle of endurance than of power. After a few Poison Stings, Geodude got poisoned. "Great Wade, now start using Harden!" The poisoning would take down the Geodude way faster than Wade could have, and I had potions along with me. I needed the maximum defense boost to stand a chance against Onix. Once again, Onix got poisoned. Wade took the Rock Tomb with little critical damage because his defense was so strong. In the end, Wade became the first known Beedrill to take down Pewter City Gym.

We made our way to the next route. Many trainers spotted the way, but Wade made quick work of each and every one of them. However, we met our next intended target. "Hmph. So you're the trainer and Beedrill that beat Brock?", questioned the Nidoran. "Yeah that's us.", I replied. "I see. I wish to join your team. I will be of great assistance to your team. I'll let you know one thing however, and it's that I'm an all offensive guy. I wouldn't be caught dead using a non-damaging move. Just thought you should know that."

So then, Randall joined our team. We went into the cave, because there was one more Pokemon I wanted to catch. "Oh why hello there! How are you three today?" "Ehh... uhh...", was all that we managed to mutter. "Well look at this! It's the pair that defeated Pewter Gym! Of course, you wouldn't leave a lady like me out of the fun would you? I'll join you guys on one condition, however. Most of the battles I've been in are too easy! It's so boring for me! Just to make my life more exciting, put me up against foes that would probably have a type advantage against me. All right?" "But, that's--" "It's a done deal! Looks like I'm traveling with you guys!"

Team:
Spoiler:
Wade the Beedrill
Male, lvl 16
-Poison Sting
-Focus Energy
-Harden
-Fury Attack
Extra Challenge: Must fight any fire types until it faints or he faints.

A little less hot-headed, he will start getting loud or maybe going wild if he gets into the moment.

Randall the Nidorino
Male, lvl 17
-Peck
-Double Kick
-Leer
-Focus Energy
Extra Challenge: Does not use non-damaging moves.

Kind of like the calm and cool teammate. He doesn't use any strategical moves, however, and just relies on damaging moves to take down foes.

Donna the Zubat
Female, lvl 14
-Leech Life
-Astonish
-Supersonic
Extra Challenge: If participating in a battle, must KO at least one Pokemon that has a type she's weak to.

She's one of the weird ones. Donna is the type of girl that wishes she had more action, risk, and overall excitement in her life.

Yeah, I know the story made it seem like Randall went into Mt. Moon as a Nidoran, but I did a little off screen training before going in there. He evolved shortly before going into Mt. Moon and meeting Donna. By the way, if you guys could recommend any challenges for any Pokemon I have so far I'm open for suggestions here.

Edit 2: All right, since my last update I made immense progress through my challenge run. I won't be able to document what happened exactly and I couldn't possibly do it by memory. So I'm just going to show my team and describe any new Pokemon I catch.

Team:
Spoiler:
Wade the Beedrill
Male, lvl 30
-Poison Sting
-Twin Needle
-Aerial Ace
-Fury Attack
Extra Challenge: Must fight any fire types until it faints or he faints.

I have to say that Wade has done extremely well with his extra challenge. Every single time we've had to battle our rival he managed to take out his starter (took out Charmeleon with ease in Pokemon Tower).

Randall the Nidoking
Male, lvl 30
-Water Pulse
-Brick Break
-Counter
-Dig
Extra Challenge: Must Counter at least one attack in battle.

Now he's going to require a bit more strategic use now that he has Counter and has his challenge altered.

Donna the Golbat
Female, lvl 30
-Leech Life
-Astonish
-Wing Attack
-Bite
Extra Challenge: If participating in a battle, must KO at least one Pokemon that has a type she's weak to.

She's also been doing extremely well with her challenge. She is quite fast and can usually take down most Pokemon before they make two moves.

Christie the Vileplume
Female, lvl 30
-Giga Drain
-Cut
-Acid
-Bullet Seed

Introducing Christie, who joined the team at Route 24, right outside Cerulean City. She and Donna have hung out with each other and are best friends. She owns a pistol (Bullet Seed) and a katana (Cut) which she uses skillfully in battle. Essentially training to become a ninja.

That's it for this update. Right now, I'm at the point where I have to go into the Rocket Hideout and fight the Rocket Boss Giovanni for the first time.

Edit 3: Once again, I have made immense progress (why does no one else post in this topic? lol). Right now I'm at Cinnabar and preparing to enter Pokemon Mansion to search for the key. The next update will have some story to it, but for now I can just update the team.

Team:
Spoiler:
Wade the Beedrill
Male, lvl 39
-Poison Sting
-Twin Needle
-Aerial Ace
-Pin Missile
Extra Challenge: Must fight any fire types until it faints or he faints.

The last rival battle at Silph Co. didn't go so well for him. It's gonna be a challenge from here on out to beat that Charizard with him.

Randall the Nidoking
Male, lvl 39
-Flamethrower
-Brick Break
-Counter
-Dig
Extra Challenge: Must Counter at least one attack in battle.

The most powerful physical attacker on the team. Flamethrower gives him an advantage over other types. I would have had Flamethrower and Water Pulse, but I don't want to get rid of Brick Break or Dig and Counter is his most awesome moves.

Vince the Tentacruel
Male, lvl 38
-Ice Beam
-Surf
-Bubble Beam
-Acid

Vince is the long-awaited water type addition to the team. He's a scholar who's immersed into studying and learning new things.

Donna the Golbat
Female, lvl 39
-Air Cutter
-Steel Wing
-Wing Attack
-Bite
Extra Challenge: If participating in a battle, must KO at least one Pokemon that has a type she's weak to.

I couldn't tell you how many times she's leveled up and had the beginning of the evolution sequence play, just to end abruptly. As a result, this gives her great frustration and she's in a hurry to beat the Elite 4 so she can evolve.

Christie the Vileplume
Female, lvl 38
-Giga Drain
-Cut
-Acid
-Bullet Seed

The second best special attacker. Bullet Seed does a lot of damage with her awesome special attack stat ("BOOM! HEADSHOT!" anyone?). She's my first and main offense against water type Pokemon. Any battle damage she receives is also cut down greatly by use of Giga Drain.

Sarah G. the Gengar
Female, lvl 41
-Shadow Ball
-Psychic
-Thunderbolt
-Shadow Punch

The second new addition to the team, Sarah G. (do not ask me what the "G" means, as I just added it there for literally no reason). She as well is a scholar and is extremely knowledgeable. Vince and Sarah share a great interest in learning, even as classmates way back in high school. She was the first person to discover and successfully conjure a magical spell, which brought her into it for the rest of her life.

As you can see, I added a bit of backstory for our final additions to the team. By the way, before anyone asks I am playing this on emulator and I did use VBA Link to aqcuire Gengar. Well, until the next update!

Edit 4:

Spoiler:
We all took one look at each other before walking into Pokemon Mansion. Slowly, step by step, we each took a look around and gazed at the amazing sight. "All right guys, let's get started." I told everyone. Sarah G. replied, "Remind us, again, what we're in this creepy place for?" "I believe it was for the key to the Gym. But what would tell you it's in here Blitz?", responded Randall in a low tone of voice. As I pulled my cap down over my eyes, I said, "Pure instinct."

After a few minutes of searching the floor, we headed upstairs. I let Vince, Sarah G., and Christie split off and search the floor by themselves. Randall, Wade, and Donna stayed with me and we headed upstairs, where we would once again split off. All of us met back in the middle of the top floor. "Sarah G., Christie, and I found some items on that floor. But I really think you should see this.", Vince said as he handed me two books. They seemed pretty faded, but they were still decipherable. "...new Pokemon... Mew?" "We found a book as well. Read it.", said Randall. "Hmm... mew gave birth...? Mewtwo? This isn't sounding very good here. There's more to this place. I saw a huge hole in the ground. We may find more answers in there.", I told everyone. This "Mewtwo" Pokemon sounded like bad news to me...

On the count of three, we all jumped. I rode the top of Christie's petals, Wade and Donna hovered down with Vince being carried by two of his tentacles. Sarah G. floated down, but the only person missing here was Randall. "Hey guys, did Randall already--". Just then "THUMP!"

With no one suppressing his fall, Randall had to jump down on his own. Of course, we were all scared half-to-death. "Randall, did you seriously have to do that?!", shouted Wade. Randall, in his defense, retorted, "Hey, there was absolutely no one else to carry me down. I seriously don't think anyone here would have wanted to take me down here." Absolutely no one answered.

I decided to cut into the awkward silence, "All right guys, let's get back on track here." We, again, split off into different directions. After a short while, Vince and Sarah G. came back with results. "This seems to be the final book", said Sarah G. "'Mewtwo is far too powerful. We have failed to curb its vicious tendencies... We wanted to create the most powerful Pokemon... and we succeeded.' Guys... this is not good news.", I told everyone in my most grim voice.

Just then, something fell out of the middle of the book. With an ember design, I could tell that this was the key to Cinnabar Gym. "We're going to get answers, and we're going to get answers now.", I said to no one in particular.

Sarah G. the Gengar

I think I'm a bit over-leveled for Cinnabar Gym this time. We may or may not go after the legendary birds. I'll deal with that when I feel like it (not any time soon lol). Of course, there's going to be the whole fiasco with the Sevii Islands. I think I'll go there after I beat the 8th gym and the 7th(?) rival battle if I think I need training.

Pre-Viridian Gym
Spoiler:
"Guys... we've finally made it." Even though we had rested the night before, there was still a sense of exhaustion within all of us. "We've gone all around the region and defeated almost every single gym leader. Once we beat this gym, we'll be on our way to the Indigo League and fight the Elite 4. You guys ready for what could be your most difficult battle?"

"There's no way we're turning back! We're with you all the way!", replied Wade enthusiastically.

"Nowhere to go but forward. No goal except to be the best. And we're gonna fight until that happens.", said Randall.

"With all that we know, nobody's gonna get in our way!", exclaimed Vince.

"Let's get this done already. I'm ready to evolve right now!", shouted Donna.

"We'll not falter. Defeat is not an option.", said Christie

"Of course, there's no one better than we are. With our superior tactics, we'll definitely win!", said Sarah G..

"All right guys. Let's get this done."

Edit 5: Finally, I've beaten the Elite 4! It took only a little bit of grinding, but we've pulled through. It truly wasn't too much trouble, but it did take a few healing items.

Team:
Spoiler:
Randall the Nidoking
Male, lvl 48
-Megahorn
-Brick Break
-Counter
-Dig

Awards: MVP, Unstoppable Force, Gym Destroyer, Feared by Rival
Best Move: Counter

Randall took down pretty much everything. Every physical attack that took out a third or fourth of his health brought almost every opponent to a near-KO. Megahorn was also a good move, but I wish I used it more.

Wade the Beedrill
Male, lvl 48
-Poison Sting
-Twin Needle
-Aerial Ace
-Pin Missile

Awards: Overachieved, Beat the Odds (Defied low stats), Leveled up the Quickest
Best Move: Twin Needle

I have to say that there's a lot he outsped and I didn't expect him to. He also took a few attacks very well, considering he has only 53 defense right now. Aerial Ace made him a menace to other Grass and Bug Pokemon. Twin Needle also did a lot more damage than I expected it to (50 base damage+STAB generally made it more powerful than Aerial Ace).

Vince the Tentacruel
Male, lvl 49
-Ice Beam
-Surf
-Bubble Beam
-Acid

Awards: Trick Pony, Annoyed the Most Opponents
Best Move: Ice Beam

He was extremely useful in the Elite 4. I was actually a bit worried about Lance, but Vince's Ice Beam swept through most of his team. He made quick work of two Onix, two Dragonair, a Dragonite, and a Rhydon.

Donna the Golbat
Female, lvl 47
-Air Cutter
-Steel Wing
-Wing Attack
-Bite

Awards: Beat the Odds (Defeated type disadvantages), I'll Use Again, Most Patient (Evolution)
Best Move: Wing Attack

I wish she could evolve, but not until I get the National Dex. It helps that I have a very specific Rare Candy to provide that when I get it, but whatever. She was very consistent in beating opponents she has a disadvantage against. She's probably one of my most reliable Pokemon.

Christie the Vileplume
Female, lvl 47
-Giga Drain
-Cut
-Acid
-Bullet Seed

Awards: Most Awesome Typing
Best Move: Giga Drain

She had done excellent against all water types. She even managed to withstand Lapras' Ice Beam. She can also take a lot of physical hits before going down.

Sarah G. the Gengar
Female, lvl 50
-Shadow Ball
-Psychic
-Thunderbolt
-Strength

Awards: Best Moveset, E4 Destroyer
Best Move: Thunderbolt

The E4 was absolutely wrecked by her. She took down most of Lorelei's team with Thunderbolt. Psychic destroyed Bruno's and Agatha's Pokemon. She literally took part in every single battle, which is why I gave her E4 Destroyer.

I also have photo evidence of my awesome team in the Hall of Fame. Now it's for more Sevii Isles junk after obtaining my national dex. And I only have 25 owned Pokemon entries... How fun.

Update on my challenge!

Last time, I left off with just Wartortle and was preparing to fight Misty. (BTW, I'm catching as many pokemon as I can - need it for the national dex and Sevii Islands quests)

- Beat her without problems. Bite worked wonders on Staryu/Starmie.
- Beat the Rocket and obtained the Dig TM.

At this point, I am realizing that I need to start avoiding trainers as much as I can before getting new pokemon...

- Went towards Vermillion City, avoiding everyone that I could.
- Completely cleared the SS Anne. Wartortle evolved to Blastoise.
- Decided to skip the gym for now.
- Grabbed the Bicycle from Cerulean City, and cut the bush east of town.
- Cleared Route 9, 10, and Rock Tunnel, avoiding trainers along the way.
- Caught Vulpix on Route 8.
- Dodged trainers and reached Celadon City, and got Eevee from the mansion.
- Got the tea from the mansion, gained access to Saffron City.
- It was a pain, but Blastoise was able to clear the Fighting Dojo, and Hitmonlee was obtained.

Current Team:
Vulpix lv. 19
Hitmonlee Lv. 25

Blastoise Lv. 41

Plan: Clear the Rocket Hideout and get the Silph Scope, so that Cubone can be obtained. Then clear all sorts of trainers that were missed up to this point.

So, it's been a while since I did an update for this and...I'm not really feeling the blog format or the personality challenge anymore so...um, I'm just going to write the rest of my updates the way I normally do. Eh-heh...Um, and the kimono girls are providing a major roadblock in Heart Gold and I really don't want to grind the 5-10 levels my team would need to be on par with them (heck, the horrible amount of grinding is the sole reason I haven't finished that game yet) so...um...if I post a list of second gen pokemon that got away, could I change that leg of the run to Crystal?

Six team members, one that can use surf please:

Spoiler:
Ariados
Houndoom
Lanturn
Hitmontop
Octillery
Stantler
Slowking
Politoed
Granbull
Kingdra
Mantine
Dunsparce
Sunflora
Rhydon
Honchkrow
Magmar
Misdreavus
Aipom
Kingler
Weezing
Kabutops
Poliwrath
Sandslash
Dugtrio
Golduck
Slowbro
Cloyster
Hypno
Marowak
Starmie
Seaking
Gyarados
Omastar

-I left Celadon and headed into Saffron City
-Beat my rival in Silph Co. and got Tessie the Lapras (why is he just standing there? Is he supposed to be a member of Team Rocket now?)
-Utterly destroyed Giovanni's team
-Visited Mr. Psychic and got a TM for Psychic, taught it to Tessie
-Went to Fuschia City to get Surf, beat Koga while I was there
-Ran back to Saffron to take on Sabrina, won easily

Team:

Rick/Electrode Lv.39
Mild/Soundproof
-Thunderbolt
-Sonicboom
-Shock Wave
-Charge

Did most of the work against Sabrina, defeating her entire team except Alakazam.

Tessie/Lapras Lv.36
Timid/Shell Armor
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Psychic
-Confuse Ray

Had a fair bit of use in Fuschia Gym, took on Koga alone.

Jackie/Hitmonchan Lv.35
Rash/Keen Eye
-Brick Break
-Rock Slide
-Mach Punch
-Sky Uppercut

Saw a decent amount of use, mainly in Silph Co. Provided my first ever one hit KO against Giovanni's Kangaskhan. Forget what I said in my last update (as if anyone remembers that), Jackie's amazing...despite the not so diverse moveset.

Yoko/Ninetales Lv.36
Serious/Flash Fire
-Flamethrower
-Will-O-Wisp
-Attract
-Quick Attack

Was basically a go-to when I didn't have the right 'mon to deal with something. Flamethrower is insane. Took on Sabrina's Alakazam and won thanks to attract.

The Blob/Grimer Lv.36
Adamant/Sticky Hold
-Sludge
-Secret Power
-Dig
-Screech

Was mainly used to beat up Rocket Grunts and random trainers on the way to Fuschia. Really want him to evolve soon...

Marceau/Mr. Mime Lv.41
Bold/Soundproof
-Psybeam
-Magical Leaf
-Substitute
-Barrier

Didn't see much use this update because of how far ahead of everyone else he was.

Alright, should be interesting. I just hope Ariados and Sunflora get a chance to do something with all the awesomeness in the rest of the team.

Your six can be...Octillery, Nidoqueen, Jynx, Ledian, Ursaring and Hitmontop.

Also, while I'm posting, here's another quick update:

-Ran back to Pallet Town because Fly is for wimps
-Surfed to Cinnabar, did the Mansion bit
-Took on the gym...the only trouble I actually had was with the normal trainers poisoning/burning Tessie, she easily took care of Blaine's team
-Did the Sevii Islands bit, because free EXP.
-Surfed back to Pallet Town and headed to Viridian City
-Went through the gym, again only having problems with the normal trainers, because they don't seem to understand that they're in a ground type gym most of the time
-Destroyed my rival on Route 22
-Realised I forgot to swap the Gold Teeth for Strength >.<

Team:

Rick/Electrode Lv.40
Mild/Soundproof
-Thunderbolt
-Sonicboom
-Shock Wave
-Charge

Didn't see much action...dealt with my rival's Pidgeot and knocked off half his Blastoise's health, but other than that, there wasn't really much he was needed for.

Tessie/Lapras Lv.42
Timid/Shell Armor
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Psychic
-Confuse Ray

This is a water type, I took on the ground and fire gyms in this part. She was the star of the show.

Jackie/Hitmonchan Lv.41
Rash/Keen Eye
-Brick Break
-Rock Slide
-Mach Punch
-Earthquake

Even if he isn't super effective against a lot of things, Jackie's brute strength is enough to be good against most opponents. Of course, after that last gym, he's got Earthquake, so type coverage shouldn't be an issue anymore.

Yoko/Ninetales Lv.40
Serious/Flash Fire
-Flamethrower
-Will-O-Wisp
-Attract
-Quick Attack

Didn't really do much with her in this part. I think she saw some use against the random Black Belts in Viridian Gym and she torched my rival's Alakazam, but other than that, there wasn't much need for her.

The Blob/Muk Lv.40
Adamant/Sticky Hold
-Sludge
-Secret Power
-Dig
-Screech

Finally evolved! :D

He's got the highest attack on the team at the moment, 12 points ahead of Jackie. Although due to the fact that I'm not expecting his moveset to change much, except perhaps upgrading Sludge to Sludge Bomb and changing Secret Power to Brick Break, I think he still falls behind.

Marceau/Mr. Mime Lv.42
Bold/Soundproof
-Psybeam
-Magical Leaf
-Substitute
-Light Screen

Again, he didn't see much use this update because of how far ahead of everyone else he was. They're mostly caught up now though. :D

And...I just noticed his moveset's said Barrier instead of Light Screen for a while now. >.<

Octillery, Nidoqueen, Jynx, Ledian, Ursaring and Hitmontop.-I'll confirm this team and shall start ASAP.

The Grind
-Started with Cyndaquil (Feel bad for making rival start with Chikorita)
-Caught a Ledyba, called it LadyPawnch.
-Grinded Santa to Level .
-Caught a Teddiursa, called it King Ted
-Did Sprout Tower.
-Defeted Faulkner using LadyPawnch's Tackle on Pidgey and KingTed's Scratch on Pidgeotto.

TEAM REPORT
Spoiler:

LadyPawnch/[email protected]
Level 10/Female
Moveset:Tackle
Supersonic
Opinion:Not brilliant really, used Cyndaquil to help train it to Level 7, Tackle doesn't do much damage, this may be a trickster Pokemon, using status moves and very few damaging attacks. 6/10

King Ted/[email protected]
Level 11/Female
Moveset:Scratch
Leer
Lick
Opinion:STAB Scratch, running off of my transexual teddy bear's fierce attack stat ,mean's it hurts, A LOT. 9/10

-I ran back to get Strength
-Eventually got through Victory Road
-Beat the Elite Four (Um...but that was last night, so I don't really remember it clearly, eh-heh
-Took a break for the night then caught/grinded over a box worth of pokemon to get the quest to rematch the Elite Four
-Eventually got the 60 pokedex entries needed, ugh...

Team:
Spoiler:

Rick/Electrode Lv.49
Mild/Soundproof
-Thunderbolt
-Sonicboom
-Shock Wave
-Charge

Didn't get many chances to shine against the Elite Four, then again, my team was so underleveled that only the most overpowered members got to do anything. I believe he took down a fair chunk of Lorelei's team though.

Tessie/Lapras Lv.47
Timid/Shell Armor
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Psychic
-Confuse Ray

Don't let her level fool you, she was one of the two main players in the Elite Four, I just chose not to use her for the subsequent grinding.

Jackie/Hitmonchan Lv.50
Rash/Keen Eye
-Brick Break
-Rock Slide
-Mach Punch
-Earthquake

Didn't see any real play in the Elite Four, so he became my go-to guy for the grinding afterwards to make up for it.

Yoko/Ninetales Lv.45
Serious/Flash Fire
-Flamethrower
-Will-O-Wisp
-Attract
-Quick Attack

She...didn't really get many chances to do anything. I think she dealt with Lorelei's Jynx and Gary's Exeggutor, but other than that, nothing. Eh-heh...

The Blob/Muk Lv.45
Adamant/Sticky Hold
-Sludge
-Secret Power
-Dig
-Screech

Sadly, I didn't have much use for The Blob in the first run through the Elite Four. Um, I'll try to use him more the second time!

Marceau/Mr. Mime Lv.50
Bold/Soundproof
-Psychic
-Magical Leaf
-Substitute
-Light Screen

The other main player in the Elite Four. Nothing much to say other than that his stats continue to hold up and he still hits hard.

----------------
Anyway, since I've got about 15-20 levels of grinding before I can take on the Elite Four rematch...Um, I'm going to start Crystal so I don't go insane.

I started the game and chose the female trainer. I named myself Tachi. I chose Totodile as my starter for HM reasons and set off to mr. Pokemon's house. You all know the drill, I went there and got the egg and pokedex, Elm got robbed, I curbstomped the redheaded stepchild. Anyway, pokeballs!

I caught my first team member, Peter the Spinarak. After beating all the trainers on the way to Violet Town with minimal help from Totodile, I took on Sprout Tower. Peter quad-resisted vine whip, they didn't resist poison sting, obvious outcome is obvious. Beat all the monks and the elder. Flash get!

I was...kinda worried about the gym to be honest, even though Peter was level 13 by this point. Fortunately, he didn't faint once. Pidgey was easy enough to defeat and Pidgeotto...well, given that I'm using a bug type and he's using a flying type that shouldn't have evolved for another 9 levels, I'm not going to feel guilty about getting a lucky poison on the first sting and then spamming potions 'til he fainted. Zephyr Badge getto da ze!

I headed south and got the Miracle Seed. I dodged all the trainers on my way to the Union Cave. Once I got there, I caught Sandy the Sandshrew. I taught her Mud-Slap and went back to beat all the trainers on the previous route and through the cave.

Once I reached Azalea Town, I spoke to Kurt. He told me to go to the well, where we easily defeated Team Rocket. Nothing really stood a chance at this point against Sandshrew's attack stat and Swift.

So, with yet another curbstomp under my belt, I headed to the gym. It was, fairly simple. Much easier than it was in Heart Gold. The trainers never really put up a fight and Bugsy's team went down easily. Peter swept him with Night Shade. Hive Badge get!

I went west towards the Ilex Forest and was stopped again by the redheaded stepchild. Gastly went down easily to Sandy's Mud-Slap, Bayleef fell to Peter's Night Shade and Zubat was given a Swift defeat.

After that, I made my way into the forest, helped recapture a runaway Farfetch'd and got the HM 01 Cut for my troubles. I caught an Oddish to use that and Flash and headed through towards Goldenrod City. I picked up a TM for Headbutt on the way and taught it to Sandy.

Team:
Spoiler:

Peter/Spinarak Lv.18
-Poison Sting
-Night Shade
-Scary Face
-Constrict

I was pleasantly surprised by Peter. He was very easy to level up, and being immune to poisoning is always good. I was honestly expecting him to be one hit KO'd by Falkner's Pidgeotto and thought I'd have to hack in one of my team members. He's been pretty impressive so far, but looking at his movepool, it's basically all downhill from here.

Sandy/Sandshrew Lv.17
-Headbutt
-Mud-Slap
-Defense Curl
-Sand-Attack

So far, I've gotta say I'm not seeing the badness I always expected from Sandshrew. I know her learnset's not the greatest ever, but she's got amazing attack and defense to make up for it. She hasn't had much of a chance to shine so far, but being female and resisting rock type moves means she's going to be the star of the show in the upcoming Whitney fight.

It's amazing how many times I had to reset to get the odd egg to hatch into what I needed. I must've reset through at least three Elekids, Igglybuffs, Cleffas and Tyrogues...probably three or four shinies.

So, with my new Magby, Maggey, I did some grinding. Part way through the grinding session, I caught Sunny the Sunkern. After that there was a little bit more grinding, then we headed into the gym.

Beat Whitney first go without much difficulty. Sunny almost took Clefairy down, but a lucky Sacred Fire took him out of action a turn or two before the KO. Miltank was no challenge after Sandy mud-slapped her a few times.

After Whitney was soundly trounced, I went north, met a young girl and saw a weird tree. After getting the squirtbottle from Goldenrod, Sunny fought and defeated Sudowoodo. The imitation tree proving no match for the seed(?)'s Mega Drain.

With that little diversion out of the way, I made my way to Ecruteak City. I went to the dance studio and battled the kimono girls. Half way through the gauntlet, Sandy evolved. Yay~! After finishing them off, I got HM 3, surf.

I went into Burned Tower and met Eusine and 8-bit Solid Snake Morty. After a quick chat, I headed a bit deeper into the tower, where I encountered and soundly thrashed the redheaded stepchild again, Peter evolved after the 'fight'. Then I unleashed the legendary beasts.

I headed over to Olivine and caught Edison the Chinchou. While I was there, I decided to battle my way up the lighthouse. Once I reached the top I found out that the pokemon in charge of keeping the light going was sick and that it needed some medicine, unfortunately I didn't have Morty's badge, so I had to leave it to suffer for a bit longer.

I easily defeated the Ecruteak Gym, mainly due to Sandy's Mud-slap. One badge and TM that I can't use later, I headed back to Olivine. I surfed over to Cianwood, saw Suicune again and soundly beat Eusine in a battle.

Team:
Spoiler:

Edison/Chinchou Lv.24
-Surf
-Supersonic
-Flail
-Thunder Wave

Hits pretty hard, although maybe that's just because surf's pretty powerful at this point. He caught up with the team fairly quickly.

Peter/Ariados Lv.24
-Poison Sting
-Dig
-Scary Face
-Night Shade

Is falling behind a bit, even with dig he wasn't OHKOing any of the ghosts in Ecruteak. Still not as useless as I expected him to be by this point. Looking at his and Sandy's stats, I think it's more his movepool than his attacks.

Sandy/Sandslash Lv.24
-Headbutt
-Mud-Slap
-Defense Curl
-Slash

Well, she wasn't the answer to Whitney like I'd hoped...I mean, she kinda was. I couldn't have beaten Miltank without Mud-Slap, but she fainted during the fight. She was pretty impressive against Morty though, single-handedly (clawedly?) defeating the dream eater Gengar.

Sunny/Sunkern Lv.25
-Absorb
-Growth
-Mega Drain
-Sunny Day

Well, he saw a fair bit of use, although his defenses are pretty fragile...hopefully I'll get the sun stone to evolve him soon...

Maggey/Magby Lv.25
-Fire Punch
-ThunderPunch
-Dizzy Punch
-Ember

Wow. That's all I've got to say about her. She's still a baby and already she's my best special attacker. ThunderPunch is great for type coverage.

Hmm. As far as I'm aware (Nuzlocking LG at the moment) none of those are catchable before the first Gym, so why don't you keep your starter (make it Bulbasaur or Squirtle for sake of ease) until after the 1st Gym, then you can switch in your Ones that Got Away team members?

Speaking of which, take Ninetales, Slowbro, Sandslash, Poliwrath, Wigglytuff and Exeggutor. Apologies that there's quite a lot of doubled-up types in there, but there wasn't a huge amount of choice!

Updated the Challengers list as far as I could tell was necessary. Enjoy your challenges people, keep those updates a-comin'...

The next time I got the chance to play, it was nighttime. So I went back to the mainland to catch Rudolf the Stantler. While I was there I caught a Raticate and got HM04, Strength.

Returning to Cianwood, I beat Chuck and his cronies easily. Sandy annihilated his Primeape and Sunny and Edison teamed up against Poliwrath.

I headed back to Olivine City, healed Amphy and got Jasmine to return to her gym. Soon after that, I destroyed her team. Peter's dig dealt with her first Magnemite, Edison handled Steelix easily and Sandy one shotted the second Magnemite with Mud-Slap.

Realising that there was pretty much no content for this update, I decided to go East to continue the story. Once I reached Mahogany Town, I went North to the Lake of Rage. I defeated the red Gyarados, which gave Edison enough experience to evolve!

After meeting Lance, I headed back to town and utterly annihilated the Team Rocket members making a base in a local store. Once I was done there, I ran back to the National Park to get a Sun Stone and evolved Sunny.

In other news, I noticed that the rules say the challenge ends when the Elite Four is beaten at their highest levels and that Red's optional. Does that mean I don't have to do Kanto?

Oh, and sorry for the lack of opinions. I kinda wrote this up a couple of days ago. Um, I'm very happy with how everyone's performing. Even Peter and Sunny.

GAME OVER!

Final Team:
Spoiler:

Rick/Electrode Lv.61
Mild/Soundproof
-Thunderbolt
-Mirror Coat
-Shock Wave
-Charge

His performance this time around was glorious. Well, against the enemies he got to fight. He rolled right over Dewgong, Gyarados, Crobat and Cloyster. I can safely say, if I could rechoose my team, I would never give him up, he never really let me down. Anyway, enough quoting the song that inspired his name...He was also the main reason I beat Alakazam, although I forgot to mention the parahax in the play-by-play.

Overall, his speed was amazing throughout even if his attack power wasn't. I would definitely recommend Electrode to anyone who hasn't tried it.

8/10

Tessie/Lapras Lv.63
Timid/Shell Armor
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Psychic
-Confuse Ray

Tessie's ability to take hits was rather impressive. As the play-by-play shows, I honestly didn't think she'd be able to defeat Gary's Blastoise. She was invaluable against the Elite Four, even if she didn't play as big of a part this time around.

Overall, a water type with a diverse movepool, good bulk and a beautiful ability.

8/10

Jackie/Hitmonchan Lv.61
Rash/Keen Eye
-Brick Break
-Rock Slide
-Mach Punch
-Earthquake

Sadly, I just don't think this Elite Four's built for a Hitmonchan. Between the ghost trainer, the flying trainer and the champion packing a pair of psychic types, he didn't have much screentime.

That said, Hitmonchan is still one of my favourite fighting types and I enjoyed the chance to actually use it. He's got a pretty impressive movepool, which only gets better in later generations where the elemental punches are of some use to him.

7.5/10 (mainly due to the circumstances)

Yoko/Ninetales Lv.61
Serious/Flash Fire
-Flamethrower
-Will-O-Wisp
-Attract
-Quick Attack

She was rather impressive, even if her KO count wasn't as great as some others'. The burn on Bruno's second Steelix was a godsend, keeping it from KOing her and KOing it in the process. Although now that I think about it, Tessie probably could've done the trick with surf and her higher special attack stat.

Not the most amazing fire type ever. Once I started the Crystal leg of my run, this became more apparent than ever. Fire types generally rely on dealing damage hard and fast, and while Yoko could deal some damage, her third generation learnset is...well, look at what she ended up with.

6/10

The Blob/Muk Lv.60
Adamant/Sticky Hold
-Sludge Bomb
-Secret Power
-Strength
-Screech

There isn't really much to say. He fought...um...Misdreavus? That was him right? Again, lots of psychic and ground type moves around made it hard for him to fight.

Overall, he was really solid. Even if his movepool was never really amazing, I enjoyed using him.

7/10

Marceau/Mr. Mime Lv.61
Bold/Soundproof
-Psychic
-Magical Leaf
-Substitute
-Light Screen

An amazing wall, a decent attacker. Not much to say really. Probably should've replaced Magical Leaf with something more powerful.

I enjoyed Mr. Mime a lot more than I thought I would. He never dropped off into uselessness like I expected, his mimeishness never creeped me out and he was all around fun.

7/10
