THAT TITLE DOES NOT APPLY TO ME.

Okay, so you were assigned to read a book in the Summer or whatever, do you actually take your time in reading the whole book or are you lazy to the extent you search for its summary somewhere, like Spark Notes?

As for me, I do this and that sometimes. If the book is not interesting enough and it very long, I usually look for a summary + analysis of the story. But if the book is good, I won't mind reading it, no matter how long it is.

How 'bout you?

I enjoy reading so I almost always opt to read whatever I was assigned. I say "almost" because there have been certain cases where I just couldn't carry out the assignment:
1. When I was in 9th grade, a friend of mine suggested I read Twilight for summer reading. This was before the books had become popular, so silly me decided it might not be a bad idea to try it out. Wrong.
2. I failed English in 9th grade and had to read Catcher in the Rye twice; this wasn't so bad seeing as how I enjoyed the book the first time, but then I transferred the next year and my new school required me to read it again. Which just wasn't going to happen.
I always read the whole book, but if it's a hard read I'll use spark notes to clarify anything I'm confused on. This usually happens when I'm assigned to read some type of Shakespeare book. After reading a chapter I'll head over to spark notes and read the summary of that chapter just so I can fully understand it. I like reading so it's not a big deal for me. :)

I had to read A Streetcar Named Desire for my current English course. I just watched the film and I still haven't read the play script, I'm doing fine so far. I don't see much point in reading the script because the film pretty much used the exact same script, so I'd just be reading something I've already heard. I will use the book when I need quotes in my work, but I'm not going to read the entire thing when I already know the entire plot.

Sparknotes saved my butt in high school. I mean, I would try to read at least 80% of the assignment or book first. Then, I would cram the rest with whatever summaries google would suggest. I survived. I hate English class anyways. And I hate reading. >_<

For English I've never been assigned to read a book over the holidays. I guess I must be lucky. But if I was in this situation I'd probably read through the book if it seemed interesting enough, if not, I'd do a search for the summary, too lazy to read a boring book that doesn't even interest me.

I read the assigned readings grudgingly. I hated about 90% of the rubbish we had to read for English class. I honestly couldn't care less about what some 18th century author has to ramble on about. How's that gonna help me in my life? [/end rant]

But I had to read the stupid books because I'd be lost in class otherwise and I didn't have access to the internet to look up summaries when I attended school :/

Out of the ten or so assigned reading materials I was "mandated" to read throughout high school, I got away with only really reading two. "Animal Farm" by George Orwell and "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. Everything else was so overwhelmingly boring that I read summaries by the halfway point.

I simply could not get through To Kill A Mockingbird no matter how hard I tried. I'm usually a good reader, but there was just something about this book. I never looked it up on Spark Notes either, I just made up everything. Surprisingly, I picked up on enough details to write an essay for the exam on it.

Honestly, it depends. If it's a totally awesome book, then I'll read it. I might look at a summary later to make sure I understood everything, but in general, yeah, I'll give it a go.

...if it's something I hate or know that I just can't force myself to read, then yeah, I will definitely look stuff up and do whatever I can to not read it.

I had this happen to me once in a history class I took where the book was so hard most people in the class wanted to kill themselves. I ended up ************ the paper and doing alright, but man, was it brutal.

Sparknotes FTW.

I never usually read the books assigned in high school, mostly because they were stupid, and the themes/morals/point of the story was very obvious to start with. 'leik OMG, I had no idea Animal Farm was a satirical work at all, that wasn't totally obvious or anything.'

Well, the latest book I read was one (online) a few weeks ago. It was just so boring I only read half way through, so I kinda just Googled the rest. However in high school, I used to be first one finished reading every book and then use SparkNotes, which was just how I did things. XD;

I usually don't finish a book if I don't like it. Most stories I hate I can gather enough information about what happened by paying attention to what other people say in class. No summaries needed.

I read the book the whole way through even if I don't like it.

1. Usually all the books I read I have multiple quiz's on and a test which consists of a bunch of points. So if I don't read all the material and skim through it on a site like Spark Notes I may not retain all the information.

2. I have to writer a synopsis and using Spark Notes or a site which is related to that would more then like do me more harm then good. Using spark notes is considered cheating or plagiarism whatever you want to call it I am not going to take my changes on getting a 0 for the assignment or a 0 for the whole class. My teachers are not as naive to believe what you got off spark notes is your own ideas. Then in college they make me submit it through Safe Assign which checks my paper vs. all the other sites that have summaries like Spark notes.
