Here is the situation:

One day a giant pillar of light appears in the sky and it can be seen from miles away. The light is focused on a tall hill somewhere near Jerusalem. The sound of music can be heard all over the world and it gets louder when you are closer to the hill. Journalists from all over the world quickly learn about this giant pillar of light so they travel to the hill in their thousands to see what is happening. When they arrive at the hill there is a man sitting on top of it. He is looking down at them. The journalists film him.

The man stands up. There is a golden aura around him and it looks like he is glowing. He calls down to them in a very deep voice: "I am the Messiah."

At first the journalists do not believe him but then he raises an arm and night instantly changes into day but only over the hill.

This man who claims to be the Messiah says, "Judgment Day is one week from now." Then he disappears.

What would happen? Would people believe him? Would you believe him? What would you do? What would Christians do? What would non-Christians do?

What light through yonder window breaks?
It is the East, and Joliet is the sun!

Eh, if God came down, poked Earth, and said, "You have one week!", then yes.

If a man said "I am the Messiah," and claimed to act in the name of God, then I'd be skeptical for many reasons.

1. The Second Coming is after the Apocalypse, so Jesus won't come before His time. However, the existence of an Anti-Christ is very real.

2. Even back during the time of Christ, a Messiah ws a common thing. Everyone was a savior, or a god, or whatever. They were a dime a dozen.

3. Even if it wasn't the Antichrist, even the Son did not know the appointed hour.

So yeah/

i think most christians would be wary for shanghai's reasons (possible antichrist), firm atheists would find reasons to be skeptical, people of other faiths may reluctantly transfer but i can see a lot of people desperately holding onto their beliefs. idk, realizing the answer to our existence is so simplistic would be incredibly disappointing and i'm not sure what i'd do...maybe see if i could take up my disagreements with god before he threw me in hell :s

Eh, I (of all people) am rusty on my end-of-days, but there wouldn't be a warning like that. Maybe a few seconds of noise. The Apocalypse is sort-of accepted as allegory of one sort or another, perhaps as the downfall of the Roman empire, perhaps as an ongoing or yet-to-occur series of events. Few expect it to work out literally as it's described in Revelation.
"The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night", and if we start seeing locusts with crowns and supernatural horsemen, mental flags are gonna go up. Also, no such thing as the Antichrist. Just antichrists.

But taking what Jolene described as what happened, I'd probably be utterly doubtful at first, then wonder how he could broadcast the same song to everyone's heads, and talk it over with other people before waking up a week later and seeing what happened. If that's what Jolene thinks Christians think will happen, she's misinformed.

Okay.. what's coming from this is answers in response to a question.

Considering that, I think this is best suited for OVP, so that's where I'm moving it too.

The discussion isn't quiiiite at the OC level. D;

Well I guess I'll just make another post talking about the second thing I'd do if this happened, because Patchisou didn't understand that my last post was implying I'd do the hokey pokey if such a thing occurred! I don't know how I could have made it any more obvious. u_u After the hokey pokey, I'd probably do the macarena. 8) You know, Patchisou, that one where you put your hands on your head, shoulds and hips? It's called a "dance".

Uhh...Are you saying that you'd just do a crazy dance if the Messiah appeared? Okay...

As for me, I would just have this look on my face all day: :cer_disbelief:
But I think about half the would be absolutely and utterly stunned, and the other half would be squealing in absolute joy.

Are you saying half the would would be utterly stunned? Okay.. Yes. I'd do a crazy dance, because a pillar of light coming down from the sky announcing our supposed messiah isn't exactly normal, or realistic at all to an atheist such as myself. It's very much an action like everything else mentioned in the thread, and it isn't profane or disturbing. There was little to no point in it being deleted. Bandwagons are only fun when you're right. Though I suppose deleting this and infracting me could provide a false sense of self righteousness to whoever sees it fit.

Dude, you are taking your anger out on the wrong person. :/ I realize you're mad, but the sensible thing is to, you know... talk to the mod that actually deleted your post. Not rant about it in the topic. Knock it off.

As for me, I'd probably nearly faint. I'm not exactly the most faithful of people anymore. Then... I don't know.

Nothing. I seriously doubt The Messiah will appear, if there is such a thing as The Messiah. It could be a hoax designed by radicals.

On the other hand, if I was aware of the exact moment of the Apocalypse, I would venture atop a mountain, and get into an epic battle with the local Mountain God, with Armageddon as the backdrop.

It'd be awesome.
