where you live and in general, how influential are civilians in regards to government decisions, and in what ways? are you well-informed in current events/the political system and do you think it's important to be well-informed? do you think the people in power have a secret agenda; how do you feel about conspiracies and conspiracy theorists?

Okay, Spain:

Regular involvement in Govt. decisions: regional elections every four years, general elections the following one. That's all. It's quite limited, and most people don't exactly know what they can really do.

I'm well-informed (I read two newspapers and watch regular news programmes on TV), and I do believe people need to be well-informed (hell, I'm not studying journalism for any other reasons), but sadly people just listen to their regular "preachers" and just repeat some propaganda as a mantra. And then they go watch football, Big Brother or some other crap, because "politics are so complicated/boring/whatever", and I believe it's really sad. Oh well.

And I'm not a fan of "secret agendas", I just know people in great corporations want to make as much money as possible and they just try to convince the politicians to help them. The main difference between parties is the level of involvement of the government in stating regulations and giving social rights to the citizens. But in a capitalistic world, the guys with money have the power to invest on whoever they want to support the politicies they want, so there isn't much to choose from out there.

im in america and that seems to be the mindset of most people here xD if they aren't too lazy to investigate the political system and current events, they're only seeing a fraction of a story and spouting unsupported opinions with the false assumption that they've fully grasped the big picture. i suppose that's why certain industries that manage to involve themselves with the government tend to get away with their greedy and dishonest tactics, people are taken advantage of and blind to ulterior motives because they're too busy indulging in luxuries.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very politically aware. I usually throw my vote to whatever minority party is around just so I can offset the perceived corruption of the party in control at the moment.

For instance, In the upcoming Texas governor race, I don't know much about either candidate's platform, but I'm voting Bill White simply because Rick Perry's been in office for way too long. :/

The sad truth is that I'm probably representative of the majority of voters in America. -.-

While I am not high on the political awareness scale, I do listen through various sources on issues that matter to me. If elections come and a candidate is found to be opposing my viewpoints through multiple verifiable and reputable sources, then I do vote against that candidate in the upcoming election. Otherwise I merely excuse myself from voting in anything but presidential elections because I don't bother with anything on the local level. There is far deeper corruption that cannot be easily fought on the state, county and city levels so I choose my battles carefully and let the local politics alone unless an issue greatly affects me in a major way.

Being a Political Science Major, I have to be aware of the current political system. That being said, I'm fairly well-read on my politics concerning the upcoming Mid-terms in the USA. It will be interesting.

As for secret agendas, some politicians in the USA do have them, but they keep a good job of keeping it under wraps.

i find current events in general to be boring plus they keep changing :)

i live in a kinda small town that's kinda trying to be a big city so most things get around on a personal level plus theres a big university here so there are a lot of academics and thinkers. there's an election going on right now that i have no knowledge of but students are constantly talking about so i think my town is pretty well informed
