Evolve or Transform?

So I'm not sure if this thread belongs here, but I wasn't sure where else to put it, if its in the wrong spot I hope a moderator or someone will move it. Moving on:

Well all know Pokemon evolve. At a certain level most of them evolve into something better and stronger. Do you consider this evolution though? I unfortunately grew up in a severely religious house. My step-dad and the entire church he belonged to though Pokemon were "evil", simply because the games/show claimed they "evolved". Despite the fact the "evolution" is a change over time, long periods of time, my games were taken away. I'd say what happens to Pokemon is more of a "mutation" or a "metamorphosis". What do you guys think it is?

According to Charles' Darwin's theory of evolution, evolution happens over an extended period of time, rather than overnight. So the context of evolution in the Pokemon world (when evolution happens in less than 30 seconds) is different from the context of evolution in the real world (when evolution happens over a number of years).

Well, in response to the thread's title; of course not. It's a video game. Just because someone made a video game doesn't prove any theory.

I myself am religious, but just because you don't think evolution is the way it went doesn't mean it's bad to play Pokemon. I feel sorry for you for not being able to play. D:

It is more of a mutation, because evolution means, as you said, to change over time. Pokemon don't change over time; they just change in about 30 seconds once you get them "mature" enough.

i wouldn't say it proves charles darwin's theories, it's not like scientists would use pokemon as evidence for evolution.

but yes pokemon do evolve over time and change, much like how humans evolved from primate ancestors
They confiscated my monkeys.

What do you guys think about "A Common Ancestor" in the Pokemon World? I don't remember where I read it, I think Bulbapedia, but it was something about how there was originally just Pokemon and over time they "devolved"(I know that's not correct but that's the only wording I can think of)into the humans who inhabit the Pokemon World now? Do you think Ash and co. are all descendants of the pals they love and battle with?

I think it's well established that Mew is the common ancestor of all Pokémon. I think one of the games states that humans and Pokémon have a common ancestor, too.
I know Mew is the common ancestor Pokemon, supposed to be anyways, but I don't think he's the common ancestor of the humans too?

I can see this thread getting out of hand in the future due to the controversial topic. To prevent this, I'm going to go ahead and lock this thread rather than wait for it to get out of hand and start throwing infractions out.
