It looks like we were lucky this time, and Counter Terrorism officials from the United States and Great Britain managed to foil what would have been a deadly plot, had the bombs been detonated. President Obama received intelligence late Thursday evening of a possible attack, and scrambled Counter Terrorist teams to intercept the packages before they could be used.

But what does this say about our National Security as a whole, and of Al Qaeda? Is our strategy on combating terrorism working?

It proves that Al Qaeda is still alive and well, for starters. The war isn't over. It means that the Government needs to remain vigilant on possible terrorist attacks. We were fortunate this time.

Discuss.

Well, this is a war on two fronts. We're split between home and the war zone, and no one can agree on where we should focus. Should we focus more on national security or keeping the peace in foreign lands? Because the general population is a group of knuckle-headed morons, their opinions are swayed by the releasing of stories like this. If something bad happens at home, they want the focus at home. If something bad happens somewhere else, they want the focus over there.

Time has altered this, though. With advances in the war zone, people are finally coming together and realizing that pulling out would save lives (pervert). It's nearing a decade since the effort to stop these various terrorist sects started. After all of the deaths, political promises, and scattered progress, where did we really end up? A few baby steps away from where we were.

I tell ya, nothing crushes faith like a report that says the enemy's still going strong.

Very well said, sir. Another thing the plot does is reveal our emergency plans to potential undesirables. Al Qaeda could examine our response to the attacks, then plan around them next time, which is startling.

And I agree, I'm not so sure we have accomplished much in terms of "national security". We're no "safer" than we were on September 10th, 2001.

Honestly, I view the media as the downfall of Western society. Yeah, we stopped a bomb threat. Let's brag about it so the whole world will know.

It's funny how there always seems to be a "terror plot" thwarted before an election in the US.

It's good to hear the threat was intercepted. From most of the articles I read, all fingers are pointed towards Al Qaeda, since one of the explosive devices had hallmarks proving so.

From where did Obama get his intelligence from? UAE?

Ironic, yes? Some people thought it was a test, set up by HS or the CIA to see if we could handle it.

Most likely a CIA source, or Homeland Security.

This means that again the plan has been foiled (obviously)
but it also means that western Europe has to be on guard for many more months/years to come; and it also shows that the taliban is still alive and well :/

Apparently Obama and David Cameron (funny how he doesn't just get called 'Cameron') are having an emergency meeting about this. Just thought I'd throw that in.
I just now saw that. :o Well at least they're coordinating together to do something about it.
