For the love of God, yes. New blood is what Washington needs.

But I'd personally limit them from serving concurrent terms, so you could be elected as much as you want, but you can't serve back-to-back terms because with elections every two years, there wouldn't be enough of them to go around, or we'd be electing unqualified individuals. I wouldn't mind term limits in the Judicial sector either.

I agree. I say we limit them to two consecutive terms in office at a time. (This way they have plenty of time to see to the people's needs, but still need to sit out a term to get 'back in touch' with the people)

Besides, limiting them to one term at a time is too strict...they can't always get things their people want through the first session around...and if they're doing a good job, well don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. :P

Still, a limit is needed sorely...simply because they NEED a term living like a citizen to RESYNCHRONIZE their PRIORITES so that THINGS WE WANT AND NEED get taken care of...not just serving the interests of the lobbyists.

On the other hand however...There could be extra corruption opportunities if they get to sit out a term, because then the lobbyists can soften that person up a bit and then try to get them voted in if they're gonna run again. But I think the chances of that are somewhat slim. Still, it's something to think about. Perhaps if they're just taking the hiatus, let someone from their party fill in? I dunno.

It would certainly require that they team up and pair off, so that their goals can be reached while the other sits out the required term if he serves 2 terms consecutively...and that might actually bring fresh people to the table who will reasonably listen to their opponents rather than just flinging mud and excrement to gain a political advantage over the other.

In Australia I don't think there's any limit on how long you're able to be a member of parliament or even a minister of the government (including Prime Minister) for. I think the system works well - John Howard was Prime Minister for 11 years because people kept voting him in. If he was doing a bad job or not representing the people then he would have just been voted out - these are the conventions of representative and responsible government. I'm not sure how the US system works but from what I've heard you have to have a lot of money to run for a seat in Congress (I'm assuming that's what parliament is called over there) and from what I've seen some of the politicians over there seem a bit funny in the head with how extreme some of their views are, so maybe a term-limit is the right thing for the US?

Yes, Yes, Yes! If we didn't have term limits, then there would be a lot more corruption as the people in power realize that they can just do whatever they want with very few repercussions. By having term limits, we can ensure that even if a bad egg does makes it to office, they will be ousted when the next election pops up.

Yes, Congress is our equivalent to Parliament, being the our legislative branch or government. Except that the Executive branch is different in that the President (equivalent to Prime Minister) is not a member of Congress. And unlike most Parliamentary systems, elections begin almost right after the last one ends. So an election contest can last two years before we actually hold the election.

He meant on congresspeople. They currently do not have term limits.

I think it's an idea worth thinking about, but it's not something that's ever going to get passed, for obvious reasons.
