Chapter 5
Escape
Outside of the laboratory Swanson swaggered across the pavement towards a black limousine with tinted windows parked outside for him. Swanson wore all black with a black fadora that masked his face from view. He had a certain strange limp with his step.
The driver of the limo was leaned against the driver-side door reading a newspaper which was held in front of his face.
"Driver! Get me out of here; NOW," Swanson barked as he opened the back door of the limousine.
"Certainly Sir," responded the driver in an almost snarky way.
The two got in the car and the vehicle slowly pulled out of the drive-way and out into the street. It wasn't alone however. The limo was accompanied by an escort of 4 black mercedes; two in front of the limo and two in the rear.
Swanson relaxed in the back seat of the car, outstretched in the back seat as he said, "Well my friend, I think that's the last we're going to see of those two little pests."
The driver looked up into the rear-view window and into Swanson's eyes. Instantly Swnason recognized the eyes and knew who it was. The driver replied with a grid, "I wouldn't count on that Sir." It was Professor Oak!
Swanson sat back in shock. His eyes opened wide. Mason then leaned slyly into sight from the passenger seat, turning to face his father. He smiled and gave his dad a wink.
Immediately the limo veared to the left, off onto the exit ramp of the highway. The two escort cars in the front were too far ahead to react and continued helplessly down the busy road. The two in the rear though quickly realized what was going on and darted down the exit ramp after the their boss.
"You have no idea what your'e doing!" screamed Swanson thrashing side to side with the car as they turned onto the stree below the overpass.
"Oh, I know exactly what I'm doing dad. I'm taking you down. Im putting an end to your tyranny once and for all."
"What? Are you going to kill your old man? HA! Don't make me laugh! You dont have the balls to kill anyone. Your'e no man! I just wish I would have known that before. I would have hung you out to dry. Your'e not Rocket material!"
"Relax. Im not going to kill you. Im taking you to jail. You'll spend the rest of your miserable life behind bars where you belong! Now buckle up." Mason looked out the back window to see the two escort cars gaining distance on the limo. "This is going to get ugly."
The limo darted down the road. 100...110....120mph. The trees blurred as they passed by faster and faster. The chase was on. The first car gave the limo a good smack as it rammed the passanger door side. The skid of the tires of deafening as Oak struggled to swirv back on track. The limo and the first car were neck and neck. Oak stared down the driver of the mercedes across from him as they raced quicker.
Then, out of nowhere a suprising roar came from behind the limo. Mason turned back towards his father to see a massive Charizard swoop down from behind the car. It was after them. Swanson began to chuckle quietly to himself in the backseat.
Boom! A massive fireball crashed down in front of the limo. Oak almost hit it but swirved around it just in time. Boom! A second fire ball; this time to the side of the limo, in between the two parallel cars. The second fire ball was so close the car that the windows on the passenger side shattered inward onto Mason's lap. They couldn't take another fireball. It would surely hit it's mark.
"Listen!" Mason turned to Oak and shouted loudly. The sounds of engines, tires, fire, and flapping wings was deafening. "I have a plan. Turn towards the car!"
"Are you crazy Mason? We'll crash into it!"
Swanson's light chuckle began to elivate to a maniacal cackle that the two men up front could also hear. It wasn't a normal laugh though. It was a mad man's laugh. It seemed that Mason's father had lost what little sanity he had left along with his son.
Mason payed no attention. He continued on with Oak. "No! Go towards his front bumber!"
"But.." Oak was interupted by the sound of the Charizard overhead.
"DO IT NOW!"
Oak swirved sharply towards the mercedes. In suprise the driver stepped on the brake and the car slowed down. The limo rocketed across the path of the car and onto the on-coming traffic lane on the other side of the highway. The fire ball the hit right into the hood of the mercedes sending it flying forward, end-over-end into the sky. Flames shot out of the bottom of the car as it flipped in the air. When it finally did land it landed with a violent explosion.
"WOOOHOOOOO! YEAH!" Mason and Oak cheered with accomplishment as the flames provided them with a sense of satisfaction. It was a false satisfaction however for when they turned they saw the second car burst through the flames of the first, speeding even faster toward the limo.
Oak turned back at the road only to find that a large Machamp stood in the middle of the road. There was no time to react. Oak threw his hands up in protection of his face and screamed.
Machamp instantly stopped the speeding car in it's tracks. The metal of the hood rippled back as the Pokemon's four massive arms grabbed it by the hood. Smoke simmered out of the engine. The Machamp then lifted the car over it's head and threw it down the empty stretch of highway.
The limo was now in a state of free rolling. Metal and glass flew everywhere. Debri was all over the road. Inside the rolling limousine, it's passangers viscously thrashed around like ragdolls in their seats.
Eventually, the limo stopped down the road. It rested on the roof, upside down. Smoke rose from the under-working of the car that now acted as it's roof.
Mason could faintly hear his father still giggeling behind him but could not turn his head to check on the other passangers. Instead, he gave into the blackness that crept over him. He closed his eyes and blacked out.
.....
When Mason awoke, blood ran down his arm and neck and there was a painful ringing in his ear. Looking around, he saw that the damage was worse than he thought. It was like he was hanging in a scrap heap on wheels. Oak hung beside him in the driver's seat. The air bag was deployed in front of him.
Sreeeech! The tires of a skidding car came from outside. It was the mercedes! It stopped close to the car. Mason knew he had to unbuckle his seat belt and get out. The men in that car would surely kill him if he didn't escape. Reaching down for the buckle his fears were realized. It was stuck. So was he.
Two sets of red and black boots appeared in the passenger window next to Mason.
